Development of a Coating Machine for Making Automotive Seat Covers

  • Automotive seat covers with olefin film imported from foreign companies exhibit some problems such as low peeling strength and high burning rate. The traditional manufacturing process requires gas flame or direct heating for the laminating step. This paper introduces an alternative solution that replaces the olefin film and flame lamination method in making automotive seat covers or interior fabrics. We adopt a new manufacturing concept that applies a water-based resin coating to develop a coating system. The coating machine was successfully developed and tested. Results are intended to contribute to improving the quality and productivity of automotive seat cover production.

  • As the separator becomes thinner, the role of thermal stability becomes more important in ensuring the high capacity of medium- and large-sized lithium-ion secondary batteries. In this study, we researched coating technology to improve the separator's thermal stability. We minimized the coating time by optimizing the design of a vertical two-stage coater that was thin, uniform, and capable of coating on both sides at the same time with a maximum 2㎛ thickness coating layer of fluorinated polymer (PVdF-HFP) on the bare polyethylene (PE) separator, which increased the thermal stability. In addition, during the coating process, a dual-jacket-roll method of drying was developed that increased the drying effectiveness without thermal damage to the separator. We also investigated the thermal stability of the separator manufactured from a coating machine, and studied the battery-applied performance by making a lithium-ion pouch battery.

플렉시블 디스플레이용 박막 도포를 위한 초정밀 슬롯다이 코팅장비 (High-Precision Slot-Die Coating Machine for Thin Films of Flexible Display)

  • We developed a compact high-precision slot-die coating machine for thin-film deposition on a flexible substrate. For smooth and precise coating, air-bearing and linear motor system were employed to minimize velocity ripple. The gap control mechanism is specially designed to have repeatability of gap between nozzle and substrate under 1 ${\mu}m$. Due to extremely precise gap control, the machine can coat thin-films down to 50 nm with $200mm{\times}100mm$ size. A thin film of Ag nano-particle ink is coated for demonstration.

  • 슬롯코팅은 평판 디스플레이의 부품을 위해 유리에 감광제를 코팅방법으로 많이 쓰이고 있다. 갈수록 고화질의 디스플레이가 요구됨에 따라 코팅의 고품질도 요구되고 있다. 슬롯코팅에서 코팅의 품질은 노즐방향의 코팅 균일성과 운전방향의 코팅 균일성으로 평가된다. 노즐방향의 코팅 균일성은 코터다이 내부의 설계에 의존되며 운전방향의 코팅 균일성은 코터다이 외부의 모양과 운전조건에 의존된다. 본 연구에서는 스롯코팅에서 운전방향의 코팅 균일성에 대해서 컴퓨터해석을 통하여 조사하였다. 해석에서 다이 외부의 형상으로 다이 립 각도와 길이를 변수로 하였고, 운전조건으로는 코팅속도를 변수로 하여 코팅 현상을 분석하고 코팅의 품질을 평가하였다. 코팅속도가 커질수록 코팅두께가 얇아지며 코팅의 균일성이 증대되었으나 maniscus형성이 불안정하여 코팅의 안정성은 감소되었다. Down stream 다이 립 각도가 커질수록 코팅두께의 편차는 작아졌으며, Down stream 다이 립 길이가 길수록 코팅 두께는 얇아졌고 안정적인 코팅이 이루어지기까지의 시간이 길어졌다.

PLC제어형 광섬유 자동 이식기계 개발 (Development of the automatic transplantation machine of optical fiber controlled by PLC)

  • This paper describes an automatic transplantation machine of optical fiber controlled by PLC. The transplantation operations is a key operation for the optical fiber application products, such as bag, cap, and others. To transplant 200∼500 optical fibers, there are many recurrent manual operation needed with conventional process. In this paper. we propose an automatic machine that reduce transplanting time and enhance product quality. Developed machine includes transplantation, heat cutting and ultraviolet coating operation. Also proposed Machine is controlled by PLC to adjust operation parameters such as pulling length, cycle time, coating time and others. Developed Machine has been applied in the field and found to be a useful system.

PECVD 공정에 의한 TiC, TiN 및 Ti(CN)의 마찰 마모 특성 연구 (A Study on the Friction and Wear Characteristics of TiC, TiN and Ti(CN) with PECVD Process)

  • In order to determine the wear Properties of PECVD ceramic coatings, wear process was evaluated using the coated pin of Falex Tribosystem. Coating materials deposited wear the TiC, TiN and Ti(CN). An experimental process was established to determine the tribological characteristics of friction and wear behavior under the variation of applied load, temperature and sliding distance by the Falex test machine. The experimental results indicate that TiN coating compared with TiC coating on e materials have e excellent friction and wear characteristics. However TiC coating compared i친 TiN coatings have a low friction coefficient with steel and good thermal stability, and Ti(CN) has the excellent anti-wear properly as well as the superiority of extreme pressure property. Compound coating compared wi simple coatings show improved tribological characteristics.

  • The space world under zero gravity and super vacuum where the space machine works has only friction and inertia. Inertia of acceleration and diceleration is accurately obtained by computing while friction is always in contact surface and unsteady. The sur soundings under super vacuum make surface friction more complicate. [1,2]. Therefore, method to lubricate stably the contact surface for long term in space machine is very important and friction for space machine proves to be true by several accident of space projects. In spite of that accident, method of lubrication and lubricants to keep stablity for long term in space machine have not been established so far. Lubrication for space machine is very important and under developings over the world. In this study we suggest a new lubricating technology, which improves powerful for space machine.

물질 보류 : 안료 코팅 처리를 위한 새로운 시도 (Material Retention: A Novel Approach to Performance of Pigment Coating Colors)

  • Cost efficiency is today the primary requirement in the paper and board industry. This has led therefore, to a greater preponderance of products with specifically designed functionality to take account of current industry needs. Continually increasing machine coating speeds together with these new coating colour components have put more emphasis on the importance of the correct rheology and water retention of the coating colours to achieve good runnability and end product quality. In the coating process, some penetration of the aqueous phase, to the base paper or board must occur to anchor the pre-coating to the base or the topcoat to the pre-coat. The aqueous phase acts as a vehicle not only for the binder, but also for the other components. If this water or material penetration is not controlled, there will be excessive material shift from the coating colour to the base, before immobilization of the coating colour will stop this migration. This can result in poor machine runnability, unstable system and uneven coating layer, impacting print quality. The performance of rheology modifiers or thickeners on the coating color have tended to be evaluated by the term, "water retention". This simple term is not sufficient to explain their performance changes during coating. In this paper we are introducing a new concept of "material retention", which takes note of the total composition of the coating colour material and therefore goes beyond the concept of only water retention. Controlled material retention leads to a more uniform z-directional distribution of coating colour components. The changes that can be made to z-directional uniformity will have positive effects on print quality as measured by surface strength, ink setting properties, print gloss, mottling tendency. Optical properties, such as light scattering, whiteness and light fastness delivery should also be improved. Additionally, controlled material retention minimizes changes to the coating colour with time in re-circulation giving less fluctuation in quality in the machine direction since it more closely resembles fresh coating for longer periods. Use of the material retention concept enables paper and board producers to have more stable runnability (i.e. lower process costs), improved end product quality (i.e. better performance of used chemicals) and/or optimized use of coating colour components (i.e. lower total formulation cost)

슬롯코팅에서 정상 및 비정상상태 컴퓨터해석을 통한 코팅의 균일성 분석 (Analysis of Coating Uniformity through Unsteady and Steady State Computer Simulation in Slot Coating)

  • 평판 디스플레이 제조공정 중의 하나인 유리기판 위에 감광액을 도포하는 과정에 슬롯코팅 방법이 많이 쓰이고 있다. 도포공정에서는 균일한 코팅 두께를 얻는 것이 중요하며, 코팅의 균일성은 노즐방향과 운전방향의 균일성으로 나뉜다. 운전방향의 코팅 균일성은 코터의 운전조건에 영향을 받고, 노즐방향의 균일성은 다이 내부의 흐름의 균일성에 영향을 받게 된다. 이러한 영향 인자들로 인해 코팅두께가 불균일한 현상이 발생하는데, 코터 진행의 초기 구간에는 비정상상태 구간으로 운전방향과 노즐방향으로 코팅두께가 균일하지 않다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 현상이 나타나는 원인을 파악하기 위해 비정상상태와 정상상태를 구별하여 해석하고 이를 실험과 비교하였다. 그 결과 감광액이 다이 내부에서 균일한 압력분포에 도달하기까지 시간이 필요하고 이로 인해 코팅 초기구간에서 다이의 양가장자리 영역의 속도가 중앙 영역에 비해 속도가 낮게 나타났으며 코팅 두께도 얇게 나타났다. 그러나 정상상태에 도달한 후에는 가장자리 영역의 속도가 중앙 영역보다 높게 나타났고 코팅 두께 역시 두껍게 나타났다.

VOC 소각 및 연소가스 재 순환 에나멜 도장장치 개발 (Development of a Enamel Coating Machine Typed VOC Incineration and Flue Gas Recirculation)

  • 에나멜 도장장치의 건조 과정에서는 유해한 VU가 다량 배출된다. 이 VOC 가스는 촉매연소를 통해 완전 소각될 수 있으며, 소각되는 과정에서 발생된 열은 공정에 다시 사용할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 기술적 특성을 이용하여 환경개선과 에너지 절감 효과가 뛰어난 에나멜 도장장치를 개발하였다. 이를 위한 기초 연구로서 촉매의 VOC 가스에 대한 연소 특성 및 성능 평가와 수치해석이 수행되었다. 연구 결과에 의하면, 고온에서 VOC에 대한 금속 촉매 폼의 성능은 우수한 것으로 나타났으며, 건조 과정이 효율적으로 진행되기 위해서는 재 순환 가스 공급량 및 건조 가스 흡입량의 정밀한 조절이 가능한 구조로 설계되어져야 함을 보여 주었다.
