Probiotics have been reported to benefit human health by modulating immunity, lowering cholesterol, improving lactose tolerance, and preventing some cancer. Once ingested, probiotic microorganisms have to survive harsh conditions such as low pH, protease-rich condition, and bile salts during their passage through the gastro-intestinal (GI) tract colonize and proliferate to exert their probiotic effects. The dual coating technology, by which the bacteria are doubly coated with peptides and polysaccharides in consecutive order, was developed to protect the ingested bacteria from the harsh conditions. The aim of the study was to evaluate the viable stability of a doubly coated blend of four species of Bifidobacterium by comparing its bile/acid resistance and heat viability in vitro with that of the non-coated blend. After challenges with acid, bile salts, heat, and viable cell counts (VVCs) of the dual coated and non-coated blend were determined by cultivation on agar plates or flow cytometric measurement after being stain with the BacLigtht kit$^{TM}$. The results showed that the dual coated blend was much higher resistant to the acidic or bile salt condition than the non-coated blend and heat viability was also higher, indicating that the dual coating can improve the survival of probiotic bacteria during their transit through the GI tract after consumption.
A study on the elution characteristics of biostimulating agents (sulfate and nitrate) from biostimulants which are used for in-situ bioremediation for the coastal sediment contaminated with organic matter was performed. The biostimulating agents were mixed with the coastal sediment, and then massed the mixture into ball. Two kinds of ball type biostimulant were prepared by coating the ball surface with two different polymers, cellulose acetate and polysulfone. A granular type biostimulant (GTB) was also prepared by impregnating a granular activated carbon in the biostimulating agent solution. The image of scanning electron microscopy for the biostimulant coated with cellulose acetate (CAB) showed that the inner side of the coating layer consisted of irregular and bigger size of pores, and the surface layer had tight structure like beehive. For the biostimulant coated with polyfulfone (PSB), the whole coating layer had a fine structure without pore. The elution rate of the biostimulating agents for the CAB was higher than that for the PSB, and the elution rate for the GTB was considerably higher than that for the PSB in distilled water as well as in sea water. The elution rate of the biostimulating agents in turbulent water flow was about 3 times higher than that in standing water, and the elution rate of nitrate was higher than that of sulfate from the stimulating agents.

A method was investigated to determine the thickness of coating on steel sheet using rf glow discharge atomic emission spectrometer. The RF gas-jet boosted glow discharge has such salient feature as good pleasure stability and high sputtering efficiency that it was possible to determine the thickness of silicon resin film on zinc electroplated steel. The erosion speed variation is dependent on discharge power, gas flow rate and discharge pressure. therefore determine discharge condition to measure the thickness of coating on steels. The fundamental studies have been carried out to investigate an optimum condition for in-depth analysis and composition of zinc coating on steel. In this study, the calibration curve for thickness determination of silicon resin film was found to be linear in the range of $1000{\sim}3500mg/m^2$ film thickness. The developed rf gas-jet boosted glow discharge was applied to the analysis of zinc coating and silicon resin film on steel made by RIST.
A coffee-ring effect is from capillary flow by different evaporation rate across the droplet. The capillary flow tends particles to accumulate at the edges of the droplet and makes the ring-shaped stain pattern. These coffee-ring formation and suppression of coffee-ring have been a critical role in printing and coating technologies. In this study, we present the experimental study on coffee-ring effect of silver nanowire inside the evaporating sessile droplet. Size and concentration effect of nanowires at coffee-ring effect has been investigated. From the coffee-ring, we observed the regimes of connected rings and disconnected ones and measure the resistivity of single ring pattern with different nanowire length.

We carried out research into an environmentally friendly injection molding process that involves filling the mold with polymer after thin films are fixed into the cavity, without the coating, plating process. Film insert injection molding is a new technique in which molten plastic resin is injected into the cavity after films are precisely attached to the side of the mold wall. In the film insert injection molding process, the insert film is moved by the flow of the molten plastic resin. Overlap defects cause a decline in the productivity and the quality of the manufactured goods. To reduce overlap defects, new injection mold parts are proposed to produce automotive exterior parts using thin films. It is suggested that the best possible method would be to fix the thin films to one side of the mold wall, and develop interior pins to fix the films in the mold. Based on this new pin fixing system, the problem of the film being moved by the flow of the molten resin was improved.
In order to protect the turbine blade from working fluid of high temperature, many cooling techniques such as internal convection cooling, film cooling, impinging jet cooling and thermal barrier coating have been developed. With all other things, film-cooling has been widely used as the important alternative. In the present work, numerical analysis has been performed to investigate and to compare the film-cooling performance of various film-cooling hole schemes such as cylindrical, crescent, louver, and dumbbell holes. To analyze the turbulent flow and the film-cooling mechanism, three-dimensional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes analysis has been performed with shear stress transport turbulence model. The validation of numerical results has been assessed in comparison with experimental data. The characteristics of fluid flow and the film-cooling performance for each shaped hole have been investigated and evaluated in terms of centerline, laterally averaged and spatially averaged film-cooling effectivenesses. Among the film cooling holes, the dumbbell shaped hole shows better film-cooling effectiveness than the other shaped holes. And the louver and cylindrical shaped hole show the worst film cooling performance, and concentrated flows on near the centerline only.

In this paper, silicon nitride thin films with different silane and ammonia gas ratios were deposited and characterized for the antireflection and passivation layer of high efficiency single crystalline silicon solar cells. As the flow rate of the ammonia gas increased, the refractive index decreased and the band gap increased. Consequently, the transmittance increased due to the higher band gap and the decrease of the defect states which existed for the 1.68 and 1.80 eV in the SiNx films. The reduction in the carrier lifetime of the SiNx films deposited by using a higher $NH_3/SiH_4$ flow ratio was caused by the increase of the interface traps and the defect states in/on the interface between the SiNx and the silicon wafer. The silicon and nitrogen rich films are not suitable for generating both higher carrier lifetimes and transmittance. These results indicate that the band gap and the defect states of the SiNx films should be carefully controlled in order to obtain the maximum efficiency for c-Si solar cells.

There have been numerous experimental studies for heat transfer measurement technique. This study investigates optical methods for measuring local heat transfer coefficient using thermochromic liquid crystal. Transient and steady methods have been utilized to measure local heat transfer coefficient on a cylinder with a cross flow. The steady method is based on the heat-coating technique and two transient methods adopt by-pass technique and insertion technique, respectively. Both techniques of transient method employ heating technique in which the flow is heated by using the electric heater and cooling technique which cools the preheated cylinder. Experimental results indicate that each methods have nearly similar results. Detailed discussions have been made for its own advantages and disadvantages.

The effect of anti freezing solution liquid film on the frost prevention is experimentally investigated. It is desirable that the antifreezing solution spreads widely on the heat exchanger surface forming thin liquid film to prevent frost nucleation and reduce the thermal resistance across the film. A porous layer coating technique is adopted to improve the wettedness of the anti freezing solution on a parallel plate heat exchanger. The antifreezing solution spreads widely on the heat exchanger surface with 100 $\mu$m thickness by the capillary force resulting from the porous structure. It is observed that the antifreezing solution liquid film prevents a parallel plate heat exchanger from frosting. The reductions of heat and mass transfer rate caused by thin liquid film are only $1\~2\%$ compared with those for non-liquid film surface.

A study on frost prevention of fin-tube heat exchanger is experimently performed by spreading antifreezing solution on heat exchanger surface. It is desirable that the antifreezing solution spreads completely on the surface forming thin liquid film to prevent frost nucleation and crystal growth and to reduce the thermal resistance across the liquid film. A small amount of antifreezing solution falls in drops on heat exchanger surface using two types of supplying devices, and a porous layer coating technique is adopted to enhance the wettedness of antifreezing solution on the surface. It is observed that the antifreezing solution liquid film prevents fin-tube heat exchanger from frosting, and heat transfer performance does not degrade through the frosting tests. The concentration of supplied antifreezing solution can be determined by heat transfer analysis of the first row of heat exchanger to avoid antifreezing solution freezing due to dilution by moisture absorption.
