Annually, about 48-60% of sediment discharge of the Mekong River is delivered near the mouths of the Mekong River branches which is mostly coinciding with the southwest (SW) monsoon. This sediment budget in turn will be southwestwardly transported along the coast of the Mekong Delta (MD) during the northeast (NE) monsoon. Analysis of monsoonal changes in grain-size distribution (GSD) of surface sediment contributes to a better understanding of erosion and deposition processes along the MD. This study aims to figure out changes in GSD and sediment textures along the MD between SW and NE monsoons based on 183 surficial sediment samples collected along the MD during two field surveys carried-out in October 2016 and February-March 2017. Compared to the GSD during the SW and NE monsoon, the GSD along the MD changed significantly, especially in the estuary areas and along the coast of Bac Lieu and Ganh Hao. Whereas, in the west coast of the MD, GSD seem no changes between the two seasons. These changes in seabed sediment suggest that sediment with grain-sizes ranging from silt to fine sand can be transported during only a NE season.
The Korea Offshore Wind Power (KOWP) is planning to construct offshore wind energy farms with an overall rated power of 2.5 GW in the south-western coast of the country until 2019. Various types of support structures for offshore wind turbines have been proposed in the past. Nevertheless, in South Korea, jacket structures have in general, been applied as support structures for offshore wind turbines owing to the many accumulated experiences and know-how regarding this kind of support structure. The choice of offshore structure is mainly influenced by site conditions such as seabed soil type and sea environment during installation. In installing jacket sets on the seabed, the mudmat is necessary to maintain the equilibrium of the jacket without the aid of additional devices. Hence, this study proposes the installation of skirt plates underneath the bottom frame of jackets in order to improve the installation stability of jacket structures under rougher sea conditions. To confirm the effect of skirt plates, installation stability analyses considering overturning, sliding and bearing capacity have been performed. From the results, it is shown that jacket structures with skirt plates can contribute to improving the sliding stability of the structures of new wind power farms, while providing economic benefits.

We compare high-resolution seabed bathymetry data and seafloor backscattering data acquired, using multi-beam, between 2018 and 2021 to understand topographic changes in the coastal area of Dokdo. The study area, conducted within a 500 m × 500 m in the southern coast between the islands where Dongdo Port is located, has been greatly affected by human activities, waves and ocean currents. The depth variations exhibit between 5 - 70 m. Irregular underwater rocks are distributed in areas with a depth of 20 m or less and 30 - 40 m. As a whole, water depth ranges similar in the east-west direction and become flatter and deeper. The bathymetry contour in 2020 tends to move south as a whole compared to 2018 and 2019. The south moving of the contours in the survey area indicates that the water depth is shallower than before. Since the area where the change in the depth occurred is mainly formed of sedimentary layers, the change in the coast of Dokdo were mainly caused by the inflow of sediments, due to the influence of wind and waves caused by these typhoons (Maysak and Haishen) in 2020. In the Talus area, which developed on the shallow coast between Dongdo and Seodo, the bathymetry changed in 2020 due to erosion or sedimentation, compared to the bathymetry in 2019 and 2018. It is inferred that the changes in the seabed environment occur as the coastal area is directly affected by the typhoons. Due to the influence of the typhoons with strong southerly winds, there was a large amount of sediment inflow, and the overall tendency of the changes was to be deposited. The contours in 2021 appears to have shifted mainly northward, compared to 2020, meaning the area has eroded more than 2020. In 2020, sediments were mainly moved northward and deposited on the coast of Dokdo by the successive typhoons. On the contrary, the coast of Dokdo was eroded as these sediments moved south again in 2021. Dokdo has been largely affected by the north wind in winter, so sediments mainly move southward. But it is understood that sediments move northward when affected by strong typhoons. Such continuous coastal change monitoring and analysis results will be used as important data for longterm conservation policies in relation to topographical changes in Dokdo.

The repeaterless system can be designed by applying EDFA technology in receiver, transmitter and optical cable in the case of connecting several hundred km from coast to coast, between continents or islands. Because of no repeater the repeaterless system do not need power system to feed laser diode in repeater for signal amplification and cooper tuber in submarine cable. So we can be configured more reliable and economical compared to repeater system. But lower loss optical fiber must be used to get enough signal amplitude without the amplification of repeater. This report consider long distance optical repeaterless system by reflecting the limitation factor of optical amplification.
In August 2007, coastal upwelling occurred off the east coast of Korea, and vertical water temperature and salinity data were obtained from a real-time surface ocean buoy. Based on the time series observation data, a vertical sound velocity structure was calculated before, during, and after the occurrence of the coastal upwelling, and how the coastal upwelling affects the sound propagation and detection environment through acoustic modeling considering the horizontal scale and actual seabed topography. As a result of comparing and analyzing the low-frequency (500 Hz) sound transmission loss and the target detection range by depth using the parabolic equation model, it was analyzed that if coastal upwelling occurs, a detection gain of up to about 10 dB can be expected. In addition, through this study, it was confirmed that the characteristics of sound propagation can be greatly changed even in a short period of about 2 to 3 days before and after coastal upwelling.

This study is for the multi-dimensional analysis of diverse data sets for artificial reefs off the coast of Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi prefecture, Japan. Various data sets recorded in artificial reefs ground were integrated in new GIS software: to reveal the relationships between water temperature and fish schools; to visualize the quantitative connection between the reefs and the fish schools; and to compare the seabed types derived from two different data sources. The results obtained suggest that the application of GIS in analyzing multi-dimensional data is a better way to understand the characteristics of fish schools and environmental information around artificial reefs and particularly in the evaluation of the effectiveness of artificial reefs.

Offshore observation of tsunami and storm surge before arriving to the coast is very important fur coastal disaster prevention. But up to ten years ago, coastal tide stations had been supposed to be the only means to observe tsunami and storm surge profile, fir difficulty of offshore observation (Goda.et.al., 2002). Recently seabed installed coastal wave gauges have been repeatedly reported to successfully observe various tsunami profiles by conducting continuous data acquisition (Goda.et.al., 2001 : Nagai, 2002a; Nagai.et.al, 1996, 2000, 2002b). As coastal erosion of the east coast is accelerating, the need for scientific and quantitative coastal erosion monitoring technology for a wide area increases. The traditional method for observing changes in the coast was precision monitoring based on field surveys, but it can only be applied to a small area. The airborne bathymetric Light Detection And Ranging (LiDAR) system is a technology that enables economical surveying of coastal and seabed topography in a wide area. In particular, it has the advantage of constructing topographical data for the intertidal zone, which is a major area of interest for coastal erosion monitoring. In this study, time series analysis of coastal seabed topography acquired in Aug, 2021 and Mar. 2022 on the littoral cell GW36 in Gangwon was performed using the Seahawk Airborne Bathymetric LiDAR (ABL) system. We quantitatively monitored the topographical changes by measuring the baseline length, shoreline and Digital Terrain Model (DTM) changes. Through this, the effectiveness of the ABL surveying technique was confirmed in coastal erosion monitoring.

Changes in water depth caused by underwater earthquakes and landslides cause sea surface undulations, which in turn propagate to the coast and result in significant damage as wave heights normally increase due to the wave shoaling process. Various types of numerical models have been developed to simulate the generation and propagation of tsunami waves. Most of tsunami models determine the initial surface of the water based on the assumption that the movement of the seabed is immediately and identically transmitted to the sea surface. However, this approach does not take into account the characteristics of underwater earthquakes that occur with time history and spatial variation. Thus, such an incomplete description on the initial generation of tsunami waves is totally reflected in the error during the simulation. In this study, the analytical solution proposed by Hammack (1973) was applied in the tsunami model in order to simulate the generation of initial water surface elevation by the change of water depth with time history and its propagation. The developed solution is expected to identify the relationship among various type of seabed motions, initial surface undulations, and wave speeds of elevated water surfaces.

In Korea, the hydraulic model tests for measuring the wave overtopping have been almost conducted with no bottom slope or single slope condition in Korea. In this study, the bottom seabed for the coastal road area was fabricated at the wave flume and the wave overtopping was measured. The overtopping rate was also measured with the numerical modelling by OLAFoam. The measuring data were compared with EurOtop manual. It could be known the the influence of the foreslope in front of the vertical wall was significant and the these effects should be concerned when designing the coastal structures. And also it could be known that OLAFoam could be used to predict the wave overtopping rate for the complex bottom topography.
