Coal ash is known to contain a noticeable amount of valuable elements, including transition metals and lanthanides. Therefore it is quite actual problem to extract them for metallurgy and other applications. This paper presents the results of high gradient magnetic and mechanical separation, microscopy, element analyses and optical spectroscopy of brown coal ash taken from the combustion camera and chimney-stalk of Angren thermal power station. The separated magnetic fraction was 3.4 wt.%, where the content of Fe in ferrospheres increased to 58 wt.%. The highest contents of Fe and rare earth elements were found in the fine fractions of $50-100{\mu}m$. Optical absorption spectroscopy of water solutions of the magnetic fractions revealed $Fe^{2+}$ and $Fe^{3+}$ ions in the ratio of ~1:1. The separated coal ash could be used for cleaning of technological liquid waste by means of the high gradient magnetic field.
This study introduced a treatment process that was developed to treat Indonesian low-rank coal with high-ash content, which has the same characteristics as residual coal from the biosolubilization process. The treatment process includes separation of ash, solid-liquid separation, pelletizing, and drying. To reduce the ash content, flotation was performed using 4-methyl-2-pentanol (MIBC) as frother, and kerosene, waste oil, and cashew nut shell liquid (CNSL) as collectors. The increasing amount of collector had an effect on combustible coal recovery and ash reduction. After flotation, a filter press, extruder, and an oven drier were used to make a dried coal pellet. Then another coal pellet was made using asphalt as a binder. The compressive strength and friability of the coal pellets were tested and compared.

In Okdong coal mine abandoned area, every year large amount of mine wastes have been swept away due to heavy rains in summer. Because pH of coal-mine waste is in the early 4, plant naturally does not grow there due to unfavorable condition for growing plant. This study had an experiment to grow plant for 6 months using Mycorrhizae which can be adapted well in acid soil. As a result of Experiment, In the infected experiment pot, 90% of the plants survived but in case of uninfected experiment pot, only 25% were alive. From Growth Experiment, it appeared that average stem length increase (cm/month), average fresh weight increase ($g^{fw}/month$), average dry weight increase ($g^{dw}/month$) were increased by 60%, 21%, 31% respectively. Especially, Mycorrhizae plays an important role in providing nutrients and water when seeding are established. Mycorrhizae prevents death caused by lack of nutrients and water and helps growth and development of plant when seeding are established in the early stage. This study proved that Mycorrhizae is comparatively effective in plant growth and prevention of erosion in coal-mine abandoned area.
Globally, there has been a lot of research related to recycling coal ash from power plant stations. This research is happening because there is a considerable shortage of sites for reclamation of increased coal ash every year. In addition, a variety of environmental pollutants have appeared because of mining activity. Abandoned coal mine, pits, and mine tailing piles caused pollutants to come to the surface resulting in serious damage for humans and the environment. Therefore in this study, we investigated whether or not coal ashes have the ability to prevent several environmental problems by mining in Korea and a manageable form recycling coal ashes. In overseas countries, there is a sufficient field of applicable cases where coal ash is used for neutralizing AMD (Acid Mine Drainage), covering of the waste materials, grouting, and soil amendments. However in Korea, since the coal ash is classified as a 'waste', there is an insufficient field applicable cases so far. Therefore it is necessary to establish a specific standard and management system for the utilization of coal ash based on the relevant precedent cases applied abroad in order to prevent environmental pollution caused by mining activity in Korea.
The objectives of this study were to investigate $SO_2$ removal efficiency of anthracite - bituminous coal blend combustion in a fludized bed coal combustor with Ca/S, anthracite ratio, bed temperature, and waste paper sludge particle size. The experimental results were presented as follow ; the effect of the desulfurization by the particle size of waste paper sludge was a great and $SO_2$ removal efficiency was heigest in paper sludge dia $1016{\mu}m$. And the difference of $SO_2$ removal efficiency according to air velocity was not too large. As Ca/S mole ratio incresed, $SO_2$ removal efficiency incresed rapidly up to Ca/S mole ratio 3 while the desulfurization rates did not increse too largely in the range of more than the level. The bed temperature had a great deal of effect on the desulfurization rate. So the $SO_2$ removal efficiency was a graet using waste paper sludge that the properbility of paper sludge as sorbent was conformed.
Compared to other waste, waste tire has much discharge quantity and calorie. When we use waste heat from waste tire, it can be definitely better substitute energy than coal and anthracite in high oil price age. To use as a basic data for providing low cost and highly effective heating system, following conclusion was founded. Annual waste tire production was 19,596 million in 1999, Recycling ratio was almost 55% and more than 8.78 million was stored. Waste tire has lower than 1.5% sulfur contain ratio which is resource of an pollution, So it is a waste fuel which can be combustion based on current exhaust standard value without any extra SOx exclusion materials. Waste tire has 9,256Kcal/kg calorific value and it is higher than waste rubber, waste rubber, waste energy as same as B-C oil. When primary and second air quantity was 1.6, 8.0 Nm$^3$/min, dry gas production time was 270min and total combustion time was 360 min. In the SOx, NOx, HC of air pollution material density were lower than exhaust standard value at the back of cyclone and dusty than exhaust standard value without dust collector.

Immense quantities of coal combustion by-products are produced every year, and only a small fraction of them are currently utilized. The purpose of this study is to investigate reused techniques of coal to highly economic growth and expansion of country base industry. So, in this study, artificial aggregate was developed to recycle coal ash by non-sintering technique and crush method. And characteristic of developed artificial aggregate was examined. Also, noise barriers using developed artificial aggregate was made by link of development of ECO-construction product and is preparing sound absorption and transmission loss experiment. Result of study was showed that artificial aggregate was more proper to use a noise barriers and this is expected to satisfy sound absorption standard in this study. So, if shape and color considering surround and design technology is studied continuously, it can be expected to make ECO-precast product as well as maximize waste recycling.

An efficient synthesis of quinoxalines derivatives is described using magnetic material separated from coal fly ash. Coal fly ash is a waste material generated in huge amount by burning of coal for the generation of electricity in thermal power station. It contains $SiO_2$, $Al_2O_3$ and magnetic material in significant amounts, from which magnetic material was separated by using magnetic separation method. These separated magnetic material further characterized by XPS, XRD, EDS, FTIR, SEM, TEM and BET techniques. The merits of present method are mild reaction conditions, and also excellent yields and short reaction times.
In this paper, two leaching tests(batch test & column test) were carried out to estimate the detrimental effects of coal ash leachates. The variation of constituents and concentration of coal ash leachate with the lapse of leachins time was analysed through the column tests. From the test results, it was found coal tach can be classified as a general waste, and all other items except pH of coal ash leachate are satisfied the concentration requirements for the drinking water. It was also found the concentration of coal ash rapidly decrease with the lapse of the leaching time and become the insignificant value after an elapsed time.
This paper presents a techno-economic analysis of a partial repowering scheme for an existing 210 MW coal fired power plant by integrating a gas turbine and by employing waste heat recovery. In this repowering scheme, one of the four operating coal mills is taken out and a new natural gas fired gas turbine (GT) block is considered to be integrated, whose exhaust is fed to the furnace of the existing boiler. Feedwater heating is proposed through the utilization of waste heat of the boiler exhaust gas. From the thermodynamic analysis it is seen that the proposed repowering scheme helps to increase the plant capacity by about 28% and the overall efficiency by 27%. It also results in 21% reduction in the plant heat rate and 29% reduction in the specific $CO_2$ emissions. The economic analysis reveals that the partial repowering scheme is cost effective resulting in a reduction of the unit cost of electricity (UCOE) by 8.4%. The economic analysis further shows that the UCOE of the repowered plant is lower than that of a new green-field power plant of similar capacity.
