Corrosivities and catalytic activities of platinum-transition metal alloy catalyses loaded on carbon substrate and were studied by electrochemical method using a unit cell. And the analysis of Pt-alloy catalyst was conducted by x-ray diffractometer. Among the catalysts, the Pt-Mo/carbon, Pt-Fe-Co/carbon and Pt-Fe/carbon catalyst showed more excellent cathodic current densities than others. It was found that most of cathodic current density for the Pt-Mo/carbon electrode was $120mA/cm^2$. The current density of the Pt-Fe-Co/carbon was much higher than that of Pt/carbon, reaching $200mA/cm^2$.

The magneto-optical Kerr effect due to the (Fe,Co)/(Pd,Pt,Cu,Ag) multilayer film is calculated considering of multiple reflection effect, and the calculated Kerr spectrum is compared to the reported experimental value. In case of Co/Pd, the reliance of composition and the variable tendency of magneto-optical Kerr rotation angle for Co thickness fully coresponds to experimantal and theoretical value. The theoretical Kerr spectrum of Fe/Cu and Fe/Ag multilayer films show the peaks near the Cu and Ag optical ansorption band in accordance with the experiment. But in case of Co/Pt, the increase tendency of Kerr rofation with decreasing wavelength reported by experiments could not be explained by the optical multiple interference. This difference of theoretical and experimental Kerr spectrum of Co/Pt film might be related with the change of electronic structure of Co and/or Pt from their bulk state.

The electrical and physical charateristics of Pt-Co alloy thin films on $Al_2O_3$ substrate, deposited by r.f cosputtering respectively, were analyzed with thickness of thin films ($1700{\sim}10000{\AA}$) and increasing annealing temperature ($800{\sim}1000^{\circ}C$). At input power of Pt : 4.4 W/$cm^2$, Co : 6.91 W/$cm^2$, working vacuum of 10 mTorr and annealing conditions of $1000^{\circ}C$) and 60 min, the resistivity and sheet resistivity of Pt-Co thin films with thickness of $3000{\AA}$ was $15{\mu}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$ and 0.5 ${\Omega}/{\square}$, respectively. The TCR value of Pt-Co alloy thin films was measured with various thickness of thin films and annealing conditions. The optimum TCR value of 3850 ppm/$^{\circ}C$ in temperature range($200{\sim}400^{\circ}C$) is gained under conditions $3000{\AA}$ of thin films thickness and $1000^{\circ}C$ of annealing temperature. The thermal charateristics of Pt-Co micro heaters were analysed with Pt-Co RTD integrated on the same substrate. In the analysis of characteristics of Pt-Co micro heaters, the Pt-Co micro heaters with thickness of $3000{\AA}$ and annealing temperature of $1000^{\circ}C$ had a good linearity and temperature is up to $468.2^{\circ}C$ with 2.1 watts of the heating power.

The effect of Ce promotion over 1wt% $Pt/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ catalysts on the CO conversion and $CO_2$ selectivity was investigated in preferential CO oxidation (PrOx) to reduce the CO concentration less than 10 ppm in excess $H_2$ stream for polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC). Ce-promoted 1wt% $Pt/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ catalysts were prepared by incipient wetness impregnation method and the loading amount of Pt was fixed at 1wt%. The content of Ce promoter which has excellent oxygen storage and transfer capability due to the redox property was adjusted from 0 to 1.5wt%. Ce-promoted 1wt% $Pt/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ catalysts exhibit high CO conversion and $CO_2$ selectivity at low temperatures below $150^{\circ}C$ due to the improvement of reducibility of surface PtOx species compared with the 1wt% $Pt/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ catalyst without Ce addition. When Ce content was more than 1wt%, the catalytic activity was decreased at over $160^{\circ}C$ in PrOx because of competitive $H_2$ oxidation. As a result, 0.5wt% Ce is optimal content not only to achieve high catalytic activity and good stability at low temperatures below $150^{\circ}C$ in the presence of $CO_2$ and $H_2O$ but also to minimize the $H_2$ oxidation at high temperatures.
$^13CO$ chemisorbed on platinum particles in L-zeolite has been investigated by static and magic angle spinning NMR spectroscopy. The representative spectra are composed of a broad asymmetric peak with a center of gravity at 230±30 ppm and a sharp symmetric peak at 124±2 ppm which is tentatively assigned to physisorbed $CO_2$, on inner walls of L-zeolite. Overall, the broad resonance component is similar to our previous results of highly dispersed (80-96%) CO/Pt/silica or CO/Pt/alumina samples, still showing metallic characters. The principal difference is in the first moment value. The broad peak in the spectra is assigned to CO linearly bound to Pt particles in the L-zeolites, and indicates a distribution of isotropic shifts from bonding site to bonding site. The NMR results reported here manifest that the Pt particles inside of the L-zeolites channels are not collectively the same with the ones supported on silica or alumina with similar dispersion in terms of Pt particle shape and/or ordering of Pt atoms in a particle. As a result, Pt particles of CO/Pt/L-zeolite were agglomerated accompanying CO desorption upon annealing. There were no definite changes in the NMR spectra due to differences of exchanged cations. Comparison of our observation on CO/Pt/L-zeolite with Sharma et al.'s reveals that even when the first moment, the linewidtb, and the relaxation times of the static spectra and the dispersion measured by chemisorption are similar, the properties of Pt particles can be dramatically different. Therefore, it is essential to take advantage of the strengths of several techniques together in order to interpret data reliably, especially for the highly dispersed samples.
Platinum-Cobalt alloy thin films were deposited on $Al_{2}O_{3}$ substrate by magnetron cosputtering for RTD temperature sensors. We made Pt-Co alloy resistance patterns on the $Al_{2}O_{3}$ substrate by lift-off method and investigated the physical and electrical characteristics of these films under various conditions, the input power, working vacuum, annealing temperature and time, and also after annealing these films. The resistivity and sheet resistivity of these films were decreased with increasing the annealing temperature. At input power of Pt : $4.4\;W/cm^{2}$, Co : $6.91\;W/cm^{2}$, working vacuum of 10 mTorr and annealing conditions of $800^{\circ}C$ and 60 min, the resistivity and sheet resistivity of Pt-Co thin films was $15{\mu}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$ and $0.5{\Omega}/{\square}$, respectively and the TCR value of Pt-Co alloy thin films with thickness of $3000{\AA}$ were $3740ppm/^{\circ}C$ in the temperature range of $25{\sim}600^{\circ}C$. These results indicate that Pt-Co alloy thin films have potentiality for the RTD temperature sensors.
The electrocatalytic oxidation of CO was studied using carbon-supported 20 wt% PtRu (PtRu/C) catalysts, which were prepared with different Pt : Ru atomic ratios from 7 : 3 to 3 : 7 using a colloidal method combined with a freeze-drying procedure. The bimetallic PtRu/C catalysts were characterized by various physicochemical analyses, including X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). CO stripping voltammetry measurements indicated that the addition of Ru with a Pt catalyst significantly improved the electrocatalytic activity for CO electrooxidation. Among the tested catalysts, the $Pt_5Ru_5/C$ catalyst had the lowest onset potential (vs.Ag/AgCl) and the largest CO EAS. Structural modification via lattice parameter change and electronic modification in the unfilled d band states for Pt atoms may facilitate the electrooxidation of CO.
A novel pretreatment technique was applied to the conventional Pt/alumina catalyst to prepare for the highly efficient catalyst for the preferential oxidation of carbon monoxide in hydrogen-rich condition. Their performance was investigated by selective CO oxidation reaction. CO conversion with the oxygen-treated Pt/Alumina catalyst increased remarkably especially at the low temperature below $100^{\circ}C$. This result is promising for the normal operation of the proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) without CO poisoning of the anode catalyst. XRD analysis results showed that metallic Pt peaks were not observed for the oxygen-treated catalyst. This implies that well dispersed small Pt particles exist on the catalyst. This result was continued by high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) analysis. Consequently, it can be concluded that highly dispersed Pt nanoparticles could be prepared by the novel pretreatment technique and thus, CO conversion could be increased considerably especially at the low temperatures below $100^{\circ}C$.
The electrocatalystic prperties of Pt-Co and Pt-Ni with heteropolyacids (HPAs) entrapped in covalently cross-linked sulfonated poly(ether ether ketone) (CL-SPEEK)/HPA membranes were investigated for water electrolysis. The HP As, including molybdophosphoric acid (MoPA), and tungstophosphoric acid (TPA) were both used as membrane additives and electrocatalysts. The membrane electrode assembly (MEA) was prepared by a nonequilibrium impregnation-reduction (I-R) method. $Pt(NH_3)_4Cl_2$, $NiCl_2$ and $CoCl_2$ as electrocatalytic materials and $NaBH_4$ as reducing agent were used. I order to enhance electrocatalytic activity, the catalyst layer prepared above was electrodeposited (Dep) with HP A. Surface morphologies and physico-chemical properties of MEA were investigated by means of SEM, EDX and XRD. The electrocatalytic properties of composite membranes such as the cell voltage and coulombic charge in CV were in the order of magnitude: CL-SPEEK/MoPA40 (wt%) > CL-SPEEK/TPA30 > Nafion117. In the optimum cell applications for water electrolysis, the cell voltage of Pt/CL-SPEEK-MoPA40/Pt-Co (Dep-MoPA) and Pt/CL-SPEEK-TPA30/Pt-Co (Dep-TPA) was 1.75 Vat $80^{\circ}C$ and $1\;A/cm^2$ and voltage efficiency was 87.1%. Also, the observed activity of Pt-Co (84:16 atomic ratio by EDX) is a little higher than that of Pt-Ni (86: 14). The current density peak of electrodeposited electrodes were better a little than those of unactivated electrodes based on the same membranes.
