The Influence of Support on Gas Mask Cobalt Catalysts for Low Temperature CO Oxidation (방독마스크용 코발트 촉매의 저온 일산화탄소 산화반응에서 지지체의 영향)

  • Cobalt catalysts for gas mask loaded on various supports such as $Al_{2}O_{3},\;TiO_{2}$, AC(activated carbon) and $SiO_{2}$ were used to examine influences of calcination temperatures and reaction temperatures for CO oxidation. $Co(NO_{3})_2{\cdot}6H_{2}O$ was used as cobalt precursor and the catalysts were prepared by incipient wetness impregnation. The catalysts were characterized using XRD, TGA/DTA, TEM, $N_{2}$ sorption, and XPS. For the catalytic activity, support was in the order of ${\gamma}-Al_{2}O_{3}>TiO_{2}>SiO_{2}>AC\;and\;Al_{2}O_{3}$. The catalytic activity at lower temperature than $80^{\circ}C$ showed that with the increase of reaction temperature, cobalt catalysts on ${\gamma}-Al_{2}O_{3},\;TiO_{2},\;AC\$ has the negative activation energy but that of $SiO_{2}$ was positive.

  • This study investigated the thermal conductivity of $CO_2$ gas mixtures in order to ascertain the effects of particular impurities in $CO_2$ in pipeline transportation. We predicted the thermal conductivity of three $CO_2$ gas mixtures ($CO_2+N_2$, $CO_2+H_2S$, and $CO_2+CH_4$) by utilizing three different methods : Chung et al., TRAPP, and the REFPROP model. We validated predictions by comparing the estimated results with 216 experimental data for $CO_2+CH_4$, $CO_2+N_2$, and $CO_2+C_2H_6$. Following $CO_2$ transportation conditions, we observed that the model developed by Chung et al. showed the lowest mean deviation of 3.07%. Further investigations were carried out on the thermal conductivity of $CO_2$ gas mixtures based on the Chung et al. model including the effects of the operation parameters of pressure, temperature, and mole fraction of impurities.

Synthesis of Al-Ni-Co-Y Bulk Metallic Glass fabricated by Spark Plasma Sintering (방전 플라즈마 소결법을 이용한 Al-Ni-Co-Y 벌크 비정질 합금의 제조)

  • In this study, an Al82Ni7Co3Y8 (at%) bulk metallic glass is fabricated using gas-atomized Al82Ni7Co3Y8 metallic glass powder and subsequent spark plasma sintering (SPS). The effect of powder size on the consolidation of bulk metallic glass is considered by dividing it into 5 ㎛ or less and 20-45 ㎛. The sintered Al82Ni7Co3Y8 bulk metallic glasses exhibit crystallization behavior and crystallization enthalpy similar to those of the Al82Ni7Co3Y8 powder with 5 ㎛ or less and it is confirmed that no crystallization occurred during the sintering process. From these results, we conclude that the Z-position-controlled spark plasma sintering process, using superplastic deformation by viscous flow in the supercooled liquid-phase region of amorphous powder, is an effective process for manufacturing bulk metallic glass.

Gas Permeation Properties of Ethylene Vinyl Acetate/Co-Al Layered Double Hydroxide Nanocomposite Membranes (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate/Co-Al Layered Double Hydroxide 나노복합막의 기체 투과 성질)

  • Ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA-28)/Co-Al LDH nanocomposite membranes were prepared by solution intercalation using organically modified LDH. LDH was made organophilic by the intercalation of dodecyl sulfate (DS) anion in the interlayer. The prepared membranes were characterized using XRD, FT-IR and SEM. Gas permeability of EVA/LDH nanocomposite membranes with LDH content of 1, 3, and 5 w% was studied for $O_2$ and $CO_2$ at pressure of 3, 4, and 5 bar. The permeability of $O_2$ and $CO_2$ was minimum for nanocomposite membrane with 1 wt% LDH and increased with increasing LDH content, which is presumably due to aggregation of LDH filler. The selectivity of $CO_2$ for $O_2$ showed the maximum value at 1 wt% of LDH content and decreased thereafter.

Comparative study on impact behavior of TiN and TiAlN coating layer on WC-Co substrate using Arc ion Plating Technique (아크이온 플레이팅법으로 WC-Co에 증착된 TiN 및 TiAlN박막의 충격특성 비교)

  • TiN and TiAlN coating layer were deposited on WC-Co steel substrates by an arc ion plating(AIP) technique. The crystallinity and morphology for the deposited coating layers were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The impact behaviors of the deposited TiN and TiAlN coating layer were investigated with a ball-on-plate impact tester. Beyond $10^2$ impact cycle, TiAlN coating layer showed superior impact wear resistance compared to TiN coating layer. On the other hand, both TiN and TiAlN coating layers started to be partially failed between $10^2$ and $10^3$ impact cycle. Above $10^3$ impact cycle, TiN and TiAlN coating layers showed similar impact behavior because of the substrate effect.

Magnetic Properties of (Fe, Co)-Al-B-Nb Nanocrystalline Alloys on Composition and Annealing Temperature ((Fe, Co)-Al-B-Nb 초미세결정립합금의 조성 및 열처리온도에 대한 자기적 특성변화)

  • ${(Fe_{0.85}Co_{0.15})}_{75}Al_{7}B_{18-x}Nb_{x}(x=2,\;4\;and\;6\;at%)\;and\;{(Fe_{0.85}Co_{0.15})}_{75}Al_{y}B_{21-y}Nb_{4}(y=3,\;5,\;7,\;9\;at%)$ alloys were prepared by a single-roll quenching method. Microstructure and magnetic properties of the alloys such as saturation magnetization, initial permeability, coercive force and power loss have been investigated as functions of composition and armea1ing temperature. Nanocrystallines are obtained by armealing of as-prepared amorphous alloys in all compositions except the alloy of 9 at% AI. Saturation magnetization increases after armea1ing and, decreases with Nb content. However, AI and B affects the saturation magnetization insignificantly. Initial perrreability of nanocrystallized alloy at 50 kHz is improved roore than twice compared to that of the as-prepared alloy. Coercive force and core loss reach less than half after armea1ing.

  • In order to increase extraction efficiency of AlGaInP-based vertical RED LEDs, chemical wet etching technique was produced by using a roughened surface with triangle-like morphology. A commonly used $H_3PO_4$-based solution was applied for chemical wet etching. The light extraction of AlGaInP LED was related to the n-side roughed surface morphology. The morphology of roughed surface is analyzed by the atomic force microscope (AFM). As a result, the roughed surface AlGaInP LED has a root-mean-square (RMS) roughness of 44 nm. The brightness shows 41% increase after roughening n-side surface, as compared to the ordinary flat surface LED.

  • ITO/TPD($450{\AA}$)/$Alq_{3}(500{\AA})$/Al:Li($1200{\AA}$) 구조의 유기 LED를 제작하였다. Al과 Al:Li(0.lwt%), Al:Li(1wt%), Al:Li(5wt %) 합금을 음전극으로 증착시켜 소자의 전기적 광학적 특성을 분석하였다. 음전극 내의 Li의 분포를 알아보기 위하여 SIMS(Secondary ion Mass Spectroscopy) depth profiling을 하였다. Al:Li합금에서 Li의 함량이 0.1 wt %에서 5 wt %로 증가함에 따라 소자의 turn-on voltage는 약 3.5 V에서 3 V로 감소하였고, 구동전압도 감소하였다. 200$cd/m^2$의 휘도를 기준으로 Al:Li(0.1wt %) 합금을 사용한 소자의 경우 3.5 lm/W로 발광효율이 최대였다. 증착된 Al:Li(0.1wt%) 합금의 SIMS depth profiling 결과 초기에만 Al:Li이 증착되어 Al:Li/Al의 두 층이 형성되었고, Al:Li 합금층의 두께는 약 120${\AA}$ 이었다.

  • LNG combustion characteristics of oxygen carrier particles were investigated in a batch type bubbling fluidized bed reactor. Three particles, NiO/bentonite, $NiO/NiAl_2O_4$, $CO_xO_y/CoAl_2O_4$, were used as oxygen carrier particles and LNG and air were used as reactants for reduction and oxidation, respectively. In the reducer, high gas conversion and high $CO_2$ selectivity were achieved for all three particles. In the oxidizer, NOx was not detected. The results of exhaust gas analysis showed that inherent $CO_2$ separation and NOx-free combustion are possible in the LNG fueled chemical-looping combustion system with NiO/bentonite, $NiO/NiAl_2O_4$ and $Ca_xO_y/CoAl_2O_4$ particles.
