Comparison of Three Active-Frequency-Drift Islanding Detection Methods for Single-Phase Grid-Connected Inverters

  • A novel islanding detection method is proposed in this paper. It is based on a frequency drooping PLL, which was presented in a previous work. The cause of errors in the non-detection zone (NDZ) of conventional frequency disturbance islanding detection methods (IDM) is analyzed. A frequency drooping phase-locked-loop (FD-PLL) is introduced into a single-phase grid-connected inverter (SPGCI), which can guarantee that grid current is in phase with the grid voltage. A novel FD-PLL IDM is proposed by improving this PLL. In order to verify the performance of the proposed FD-PLL IDM, a full performance comparison between the proposed IDM and typical existing active frequency drift IDMs is carried out, which includes both dynamic performance and steady performance. With the same NDZ, the total harmonic distortion of the grid-current in the dynamic process and steady state is analyzed. The proposed FD-PLL IDM, regardless of the dynamic or steady process, has the best power quality. Experimental and simulation results verify that the proposed FD-PLL IDM has excellent performance.

Building Change Detection Using Deep Learning for Remote Sensing Images

  • To increase building change recognition accuracy, we present a deep learning-based building change detection using remote sensing images. In the proposed approach, by merging pixel-level and object-level information of multitemporal remote sensing images, we create the difference image (DI), and the frequency-domain significance technique is used to generate the DI saliency map. The fuzzy C-means clustering technique pre-classifies the coarse change detection map by defining the DI saliency map threshold. We then extract the neighborhood features of the unchanged pixels and the changed (buildings) from pixel-level and object-level feature images, which are then used as valid deep neural network (DNN) training samples. The trained DNNs are then utilized to identify changes in DI. The suggested strategy was evaluated and compared to current detection methods using two datasets. The results suggest that our proposed technique can detect more building change information and improve change detection accuracy.

강부재의 손상발견을 위한 모달실험 기법 (Damage Detection of a Steel Member Using Modal Testing)

  • 모달실험 기법의 강부재 손상발견 적용성에 대한 실험적 연구를 수행하였다. 단경간 및 2경간 강재보에 손상을 모사한 단계적인 절단을 가하면서 모달실험을 반복하고, 손상 정도에 따른 모달 파라미터의 변화를 관찰하였으며, 실험 결과를 검증할 목적으로 수치해석을 병행하였다. 고려한 모달 파라미터는 고유진동수(Frequency), 변위 모드형상(Displacement Mode Shape), 변형률 모드형상(Strain Mode Shape)이며, 이들 모달 파라미터를 구하기 위하여 가속도계와 변형률계를 사용한 모달실험을 실시하였다. 각각의 손상단계에서 손상에 의한 변위 모드형상과 변형률 모드형상의 변화를 위치에 대해 정량적으로 나타내기 위하여, CoMAC과 Modal Vector Error를 사용하였다. 고유진동수는 손상의 정도가 심해짐에 따라 감소하는 경향을 보였으며, 손상의 위치를 발견하는 데에 가장 효과적으로 사용될 수 있는 것은 변형률 모드형상이었다.

Interference Avoidance through Pilot-Based Spectrum Sensing Algorithm in Overlaid Femtocell Networks

  • Co-channel interference between macro-femtocell networks is an unresolved problem, due to the frequency reuse phenomenon. To mitigate such interference, a secondary femtocell must acquire channel-state knowledge about a co-channel macrocell user and accordingly condition the maximum transmit power of femtocell user. This paper proposes a pilot-based spectrum sensing (PSS) algorithm for overlaid femtocell networks to sense the presence of a macrocell user over a channel of interest. The PSS algorithm senses the pilot tones in the received signal through the power level and the correlation metric comparisons between the received signal and the local reference pilots. On ensuring the existence of a co-channel macrocell user, the maximum transmit power of the corresponding femtocell user is optimized so as to avoid interference. Time and frequency offsets are carefully handled in our proposal. Simulation results show that the PSS algorithm outperforms existing sensing techniques, even at poor received signal quality. It requires less sensing time and provides better detection probability over existing techniques.

  • In the defence wireless communications, conventional Anti-Jamming techniques(Frequency Hopping/Spread Spectrum or Direct Sequence/Spread Spectrum) are used to overcome a intentional interfering signals which are single/multitone or partial band jammer etc. DS/SS techniques is very strong on tone jamming signal but not to be on a partial band jammer. So FH/SS AJ performances are expected method of an substitution of DS/SS, however FH/SS could not have good performance on some BMTJ(Band Multi-tone Jammer). So this paper proposes FH-CSS (Frequency Hopped - Chirp Spread Spectrum) to get more robustness against jammers(BMTJ, PBNJ) and analyze the AJ performances.

Fast and Precise: How to Measure Meiotic Crossovers in Arabidopsis

  • During meiosis, homologous chromosomes (homologs) pair and undergo genetic recombination via assembly and disassembly of the synaptonemal complex. Meiotic recombination is initiated by excess formation of DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs), among which a subset are repaired by reciprocal genetic exchange, called crossovers (COs). COs generate genetic variations across generations, profoundly affecting genetic diversity and breeding. At least one CO between homologs is essential for the first meiotic chromosome segregation, but generally only one and fewer than three inter-homolog COs occur in plants. CO frequency and distribution are biased along chromosomes, suppressed in centromeres, and controlled by pro-CO, anti-CO, and epigenetic factors. Accurate and high-throughput detection of COs is important for our understanding of CO formation and chromosome behavior. Here, we review advanced approaches that enable precise measurement of the location, frequency, and genomic landscapes of COs in plants, with a focus on Arabidopsis thaliana.

MUSIC 알고리즘을 이용한 JEM 신호의 Chopping 주파수 추출 (Chopping Frequency Extraction of JEM Signal Using MUSIC Algorithm)

  • 제트 엔진 변조(jet engine modulation: JEM) 신호는 제트 엔진 고유 정보인 날개 수를 제공하기 때문에 HRRP(High-Range Resolution Profile), ISAR(Inverse Synthetic Aperture Radar)와 함께 표적 인식 분야에서 널리 이용된다. 제트 엔진의 날개 수를 얻기 위해서는 날개 수에 비례하는 chopping 주파수를 추출하는 것이 중요하다. 기존의 chopping 주파수 추출 방법은 초기 문턱값(threshold)를 정의하고, 이를 줄여가며, chopping peak를 탐지하는 방법을 사용한다. 하지만 이러한 탐지 방법은 반복적 찾음에 따라 신호에 따라 시간이 많이 소요되는 단점을 가지고 있다. 이에 본 논문에서는 MUSIC(MUltiple SIgnal Classification) 알고리즘을 이용하여 chopping 주파수를 추출하는 것을 제안한다. 주어진 JEM 신호에 MUSIC 알고리즘을 적용하여 chopping 주파수를 찾아 날개 수 후보군을 정하고, 후보군들의 점수를 위한 다른 chopping 주파수 추출에도 MUSIC 알고리즘을 적용하도록 한다. 반복적으로 찾는 기존의 탐지 알고리즘과 달리, 한번에 찾아내기 때문에 정확한 chopping 주파수를 찾을 뿐만 아니라, 계산 시간도 줄일 수 있음을 입증하였다.

Comparison Study of Long-haul 100-Gb/s DDO-OFDM and CO-OFDM WDM Systems

  • In this paper, for the first time, the transmission performances of long-haul 100-Gb/s direct detection optical OFDM (DDO-OFDM) and coherent optical OFDM (CO-OFDM) wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) systems are compared by simulation. It provides specific guides for system parameter selection to get a high-performance and cost-effective OFDM WDM system. Specifically, the comparison involves three aspects: launched power is investigated to achieve better system performance; laser linewidth is numerically investigated to choose cost-effective laser; system dispersion tolerances with different laser linewidths are analyzed to further reveal the advantages and disadvantages of these two detecting methods, direct detection and coherent detection, in long-haul OFDM WDM system.

A Method to Suppress False Alarms of Sentinel-1 to Improve Ship Detection

  • In synthetic aperture radar (SAR) based ship detection application, false alarms frequently occur due to various noises caused by the radar imaging process. Among them, radio frequency interference (RFI) and azimuth smearing produce substantial false alarms; the latter also yields longer length estimation of ships than the true length. These two noises are prominent at cross-polarization and relatively weak at co-polarization. However, in general, the cross-polarization data are suitable for ship detection, because the radar backscatter from background sea surface is much less in comparison with the co-polarization backscatter, i.e., higher ship-sea image contrast. In order to improve the ship detection accuracy further, the RFI and azimuth smearing need to be mitigated. In the present letter, Sentinel-1 VV- and VH-polarization intensity data are used to show a novel technique of removing these noises. In this method, median image intensities of noises and background sea surface are calculated to yield arithmetic tendency. A band-math formula is then designed to replace the intensities of noise pixels in VH-polarization with adjusted VV-polarization intensity pixels that are less affected by the noises. To verify the proposed method, the adaptive threshold method (ATM) with a sliding window was used for ship detection, and the results showed that the 74.39% of RFI false alarms are removed and 92.27% false alarms of azimuth smearing are removed.

A Study on the Enhanced Filtering for the Removal of BEMF in BLDC Motors

  • This paper used the majority function to digitally filter back-electromotive force as an explanation of the Brushless DC MOTOR control algorithm. The cause and improvement of motor noise, which are operating in close proximity to high frequency sources, did not use conventional low pass filter and comparator elements. Also, they repeatedly output a noise-free BEMF signal for the input value of the majority detection filtering. These filtering steps can help reduce costs and minimize the area of a PCB by requiring relatively little hardware.
