This study was aimed to formulate various phospholipid nanoparticles composed of different surfactants and to evaluate the deformability of the phospholipid vesicles as candidates of useful ultradeformable nanoparticles. In vitro deformability of the phospholipid nanoparticles was studied using an extruder under a certain pressure. The sizes of phospholipid nanoparticles, passed volumes, and concentrations of the phospholipids in suspensions before and after extrusion were measured. The deformability indexes were estimated by using passed volumes, sizes of phospholipid nanoparticles and concentrations of phospholipids. Conventional liposomes, placed under a certain pressure of an extruder, showed no passed volume indicating little deformability. Similar to conventional liposomes, phospholipid nanoparticles containing surfactants such as sodium taurocholate, Myrj 45, or Myrj 53 showed little deformability. In contrast, phospholipid nanoparticles composed of Tween 20, Triton X-100, or sodium deoxycholate showed higher deformability indexes than others. Taken together, the deformability of phospholpid nanoparticles could be significantly affected by the type of surfactants. Moreover, these results suggest that the deformability of phospholipid nanoparticles could be modulated by surfactants.
In order to evaluate the effect of poloxamer 407 content on the dissolution profiles of pellets, diltiazem HCl (DTL) core pellets were prepared with poloxamer 407 (50-90% w/w, with lactose as filler) using an extruder and a spheronizer. Any possible interaction between the drug and excipients was evaluated using DSC, IR and TLC. Dissolution tests were performed using USP basket method. In addition, scanning electron micrograph was performed to examine the surface roughness and cross sections. The release of DTL from the core pellets was decreased with increasing poloxamer 407 content. Cracks appeared on the surface of the core pellets with increasing the poloxamer 407 content, which may play a role on the retardation of the release of DTL from core pellets. There was no any significant interaction between the drug and excipients employed to prepare the core pellets.
The co-extrusion of multi-layer films has been studied with the focus on its process stability. As in the single-layer film casting process, the productivity of the industrially important multi-layer film casting and the quality of thus produced films have often been hampered by various instabilities occurring in the process including draw resonance, a supercritical Hopfbifurcation instability, frequently encountered when the draw ratio is raised beyond a certain critical value. In this study, this draw resonance instability along with the neck-in of the film width has been investigated for a three-layer film casting using a varying width non-isothermal 1-D model of the system with Phan-Thien and Tanner (PTT) constitutive equation known for its robustness in portraying extensional deformation processes. The effects of various process conditions, e.g., the aspect ratio, the thickness ratio of the individual film layers, and cooling of the process, on the stability have been examined through the nonlinear stability analysis.

The automotive weather strip has the functions isolating of dust, water, noise and vibration from outside. The core of weather strip is made of steel with stiffness. By using the wire formed as the core of weather strip, weight can be reduced as much as 35% by comparing with existing steel core. For this reason, forming wire is necessary to keep the zigzag shape as it is. The deformation which is occurred during forming process can be predicted and it can be used in case of manufacturing dies through CAE. In this paper, rolling process conditions are deduced and the springback amount is predicted after rolling process by using the simulation. The springback amount of product is measured by using optical microscope, and measurement result is compared with the simulation result of springback as the same condition. The suitable gap between dies to compensate springback after rolling process is predicted through simulation and it is used for manufacturing dies.
Heavy weight of the camouflage materials was always the main problem. To solve it, the low infrared emissivity fibers with the radar absorbing property (LIFR) were prepared. The low infrared emissivity fibers (LIF) were firstly melt-spun by co-extrusion of polypropylene (PP) and PP/various fillers master-batches using general conjugate spinning. The infrared emissivity of LW with AA and ZnO was decreased respectively compared with that of pure polypropylene fibers. The infrared emissivity of LIF with 15 wt% Al and 2 wt% ZnO in the sheath-part can reach 0.58. To improve LIF radar absorbing property, LIFR was prepared by filling the 50 wt% ferrite and bronze in the core-part of LIF. The radar absorbing efficacy of LIFR was good and the infrared emissivity was low. For the characterization, fiber electron intensity instrument and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) were used for the analysis of mechanical properties, thermal and crystallization behavior of the spun-fibers. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was carried out to observe the particle distribution of the bicomponent fibers.

Blends of the linear bisphenol-A polycarbonate (L-PC) and randomly branched bisphenol-A polycarbonate (Br-PC), prepared by co-rotating twin screw extrusion, were investigated using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), sag resistance time tester, extensional rheometry, and advanced rheometric expansion system (ARES). From the DSC results, the glass transition temperature (T$_{g}$) of the L-PC/Br-PC blend was increased with the increase of Br-PC in the blend, and the blend showed a single T$_{g}$, which suggests a miscible blend. The sag resistance time of the L-PC/Br-PC blend was increased with the increase of Br-PC in the blends. From the results of rheological measurements of the L-PC/Br-PC blends, the extensional viscosity and the complex viscosity of the blends were found to increase with the increase of Br-PC in the blends. The increase of extensional viscosity and complex viscosity was related with the increase of sag resistance time with the Br-PC in the L-PC/Br-PC blends.nds.
In this study, the rheological properties of a partially valcanized black filled EPDM were investigated as a function of degree of crosslinks using capillary rheometer. In order to obtain the samples having various degree of crosslinks between 0 and 6 percent, the vulcanization kinetics was also studied by Monsanto rheometer. The results showed that the die swell ana the pressure drop at the capillary entrance and exit increase nearly linearly with the increase in degree of crosslinks. However, melt fracture occurred at a lower shear rate for the samples of higher degree of crosslinks. These results were discussed in terms of the melt elasticity produced at the entrance region of capillary by the partial vulcanization. It is also interesting to note that the fluctuation of die swell during the practical extrusion or calendering process in the factories can be caused by the partial vulcanization occurred during the process.

This study improves the formability in fine-blanking the lock plate of car seat belts using a low carbon steel(SM35C) plate. The optimal die design for the forming process is proposed using rules for process planning based on theories and field experiences. The optimal design is analyzed using commercial finite element software in order to solve the fracture problems in the extrusion process. Through the improved layout based on the FEM results, the fracture of the extruded part and the roll over problem are solved. Furthermore, it is demonstrated through the shown from experiments that the extruded part does not break in the modified die.
A low temperature anode-supported tubular solid oxide fuel cell was developed. The anode-supported tube was fabricated using extrusion process. Then the electrolyte layer and the cathode layer were coated onto the anode tube by slurry dipping process, subsequently. The anode tube and electrolyte were co-fired at $140^{\circ}C$, and the cathode was sintered at $1200^{\circ}C$. The thickness and gas permeability of the electrolyte depended on the number of coating and the slurry concentration. Anode-supported tube was satisfied with SOFC requirements, related to electrical conductivity, pore structure, and gas diffusion limitations. At operating temperature of $800^{\circ}C$, open circuit voltage of the cell with gastight and dense electrolyte layer was 1.1 V and the cell showed a good performance of 450 mW/$\textrm{cm}^2$.
To improve the conventional cathode-supported tubular solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) from the viewpoint of low cell power density, expensive fabrication process and high operation temperature, the anode-supported tubular solid oxide fuel cell was investigated. The anode tube of Ni-8mol% $Y_2$O$_3$-stabilized $ZrO_2$ (8YSZ) was manufactured by extrusion process, and, the electrolyte of 8YSZ and the multi-layered cathode of $LaSrMnO_3$(LSM)ILSM-YSZ composite/$LaSrCoFeO_3$ were coated on the surface of the anode tube by slurry dip coating process, subsequently. Their cell performances were examined under gases of humidified hydrogen with 3% water and air. In the thermal cycle condition of heating and cooling rates with $3.33^{\circ}C$/min, the anode-supported tubular cell showed an excellent resistance as compared with the electrolyte-supported planar cell. The optimum hydrogen flow rate was evaluated and the air preheating increased the cell performance due to the increased gas temperature inside the cell. In long-term stability test, the single cell indicated a stable performance of 300 mA/$\textrm{cm}^2$ at 0.85 V for 255 hr.
