  • Poly (vinyl chloride) was blended with blended with vinyl chloride-acrylonitrile copolymers (MO-01 : M$\sub$w/=199049, AN=22.79%, MO-02 : M$\sub$w/=238523, AN=47.03%, MO-03 : M$\sub$w/=289496, AN=52.49%, MO-04 : M$\sub$w/=341837, AN=58.68% by mixing dimethylformamide (DMF) solution of each polymer and their morphology, viscosity, viscoelastic and mechanical properties were studied. Blends of PVC and MO-01 showed a homogeneous morphology. On the contrary, the other copolymer blends showed a large phase separation with spherical domains. Miscibility of blends of PVC and MO-01 was shown to be better than that of blends of other copolymers from morphological and viscoelastic studies. Even though blends of PVC and MO-01 were observed to be the considerable compatibility at a composition of PVC/MO-01=90/10, the mechanical properties of blend films were not improved too much in most blend cases.

  • Thick film formaldehyde (HCHO) gas sensors were fabricated by using $La_1_{-x}Sr_xMO_3$ (M= Fe, Co, Mn) ceramics. The powders of $La_1_{-x}Sr_xMO_3$ (M=Fe, Co, Mn) were synthesized by conventional solid-state reaction method. By using the $La_1_{-x}Sr_xMO_3$ (M=Fe, Co, Mn) paste, the thick-film formaldehyde sensors were prepared on the alumina substrate by silkscreen printing method. The experimental results revealed that $La_1_{-x}Sr_xMO_3$ (M= Fe, Co, Mn) ceramic powder has a perovskite structure and the thick-film sensor shows excellent gas-sensing characteristics to formaldehyde gas (sensitivity of $La_{0.8}Sr_{0.2}FeO_3$, S= 14.7 at operating temperature of $150^{\circ}C$ in 50 ppm HCHO ambient).

  • A T-800 (Co-Mo-Cr) coating material is fabricated using Co-Mo-Cr powder feedstock and laser cladding. The microstructure and melted Al erosion properties of the laser-cladded T-800 coating material are investigated. The Al erosion properties of the HVOF-sprayed MoB-CoCr and bulk T-800 material are also examined and compared with the laser-cladded T-800 coating material. Co and lave phases (Co2MoCr and Co3Mo2Si) are detected in both the laser-cladded T-800 coating and the bulk T-800 materials. However, the sizes of the lave phases are measured as 7.9 ㎛ and 60.6 ㎛ for the laser-cladded and bulk T-800 materials, respectively. After the Al erosion tests, the erosion layer thicknesses of the three materials are measured as 91.50 ㎛ (HVOF MoB-CoCr coating), 204.83 ㎛ (laser cladded T-800), and 226.33 ㎛ (bulk T-800). In the HVOF MoB-CoCr coating material, coarse cracks and delamination of the coating layer are observed. On the other hand, no cracks or local delamination of the coating layer are detected in the laser T-800 material even after the Al erosion test. Based on the above results, the authors discuss the appropriate material and process that could replace conventional bulk T-800 materials used as molten Al pots.

  • Two types of CoMo/zeolite as well as $NiMo/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ were prepared and their activities and selectivities of low-temperature dibenzothiophene(DBT) hydrodesulfurization(HDS) were studied in high pressure fixed bed reactor. The HDS activities of CoMo/zeolites were higher than that of $NiMo/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ at temperatures below $225^{\circ}C$ while they were lower than that of $NiMo/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ at temperatures higher than $275^{\circ}C$. The main products from $NiMo/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ were biphenyl and cyclohexylbenzene. The product distribution of CoMo/zeolite catalysts was different from that of $NiMo/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$. It is speculated that DBT is converted to alkylcyclohexane over zeolite based catalysts through both alkylation and hydrogenation reactions. The crystal structure of molybdenum was $MoO_3$ in fresh zeolite support while mixtures of $MoO_3$ and $MoS_2$ were observed in the aged catalyst.
