  • Motion picture industry is one of the most representative fields in the cultural industry and has experienced constant growth both worldwide and within domestic markets. However, little research has been undertaken for diffusion patterns of motion pictures, whereas various issues such as demand forecasting and success factor analysis have been widely explored. To analyze diffusion patterns, we adopted extended Bass model to reflect the potential demand of movies. Four clusters of selected movies were derived by k-means clustering method with criteria of opening strength and profitability and then compared by their diffusion patterns. Results indicated that movies with high profitability and medium opening strength are most significantly influenced by word of mouth effect, while low profitability movies display nearly monotonic decreasing diffusion patterns with noticeable initial adoption rates and relatively early peak points in their runs.

  • The pair-induced quenching (PIQ) effect in a highly doped bismuth oxide-based erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) was theoretically and experimentally investigated. In the theoretical investigation, the bismuth oxide-based EDFA was modeled as a 6-level amplifier system that incorporated clustering-induced concentration quenching, cooperative up-conversion, pump excited state absorption (ESA), and signal ESA. The relative number of paired ions in a highly doped bismuth oxide EDF was estimated to be ~6.02%, determined by a comparison between the theoretical and the experimentally measured gain values. The impacts of the PIQ on the gain and the noise figure were also investigated.

  • This paper is to cluster the AMR (Automatic Meter Reading) data. The load survey system has been applied to record the power consumption of sampling the contract assortment in KEPRI AMR. The effect of the contract assortment change to the customer power consumption is determined by executing the clustering on the load survey results. We can supply the power to customer according to usage to the analysis cluster. The Korea a class of the electricity supply type is less than other country. Because of the Korea electricity markets exists one electricity provider. Need to further divide of electricity supply type for more efficient supply. We are found pattern that is different from supplied type to customer. Out experiment use the Clementine which data mining tools.

  • Data storage related with writing and retrieving requires high storage capacity, fast transfer rate and less access time. Today any data storage system cannot satisfy these conditions, however holographic data storage system can perform faster data transfer rate because it is a page oriented memory system using volume hologram in writing and retrieving data. System can be constructed without mechanical actuating part so fast data transfer rate and high storage capacity about 1Tb/cm3 can be realized. In this research, to correct errors of binary data stored in holographic data storage system, a new method for reduction errors is suggested. First, find cluster centers using subtractive clustering algorithm then reduce intensities of pixels around cluster centers. By using this error reduction method following results are obtained ; the effect of Inter Pixel Interference noise in the holographic data storage system is decreased and the intensity profile of data page becomes uniform therefore the better data storage system can be constructed.

  • The cosmic distance can be precisely determined using a 'standard ruler' imprinted by primordial baryon acoustic oscillation (hereafter BAO) in the early Universe. The BAO at the targeted epoch is observed by analyzing galaxy clustering in redshift space (hereafter RSD) of which theoretical formulation is not yet fully understood, and thus makes this methodology unsatisfactory. The BAO analysis through full RSD modeling is contaminated by the systematic uncertainty due to a non--linear smearing effect such as non-linear corrections and uncertainty caused by random viral velocity of galaxies. However, BAO can be probed independently of RSD contamination using the BAO peak positions located in the 2D anisotropic correlation function. A new methodology is presented to measure peak positions, to test whether it is also contaminated by the same systematics in RSD, and to provide the radial and transverse cosmic distances determined by the 2D BAO peak positions. We find that in our model independent anisotropic clustering analysis we can obtain about 2% and 5% constraints on $D_A$ and $H^{-1}$ respectively with current BOSS data which is competitive with other analysis.

  • Purpose: For quantitative analysis of the cardiac diseases, it is necessary to segment the left-ventricle(LV) in MR cardiac images. Snake or active contour model has been used to segment LV boundary. In using these models, however, the contour of the LV may not converge to the desirable one because the contour may fall into local minimum value due to image artifact in inner region of the LV Therefore, in this paper, we propose the new preprocessing method using K-means clustering and merging algorithms that can improve the performance of the active contour model.

  • Recently, the importance of one-class classification problem is more increasing. However, most of existing algorithms have the limitation on providing the information that effects on the prediction of the target value. Motivated by this remark, in this paper, we suggest an efficient one-class classifier using hyper-rectangles (H-RTGLs) that can be produced from intervals including observations. Specifically, we generate intervals for each feature and integrate them. For generating intervals, we consider two approaches : (i) interval merging and (ii) clustering. We evaluate the performance of the suggested methods by computing classification accuracy using area under the roc curve and compare them with other one-class classification algorithms using four datasets from UCI repository. Since H-RTGLs constructed for a given data set enable classification factors to be visible, we can discern which features effect on the classification result and extract patterns that a data set originally has.

  • A SATA hard disk has been widely used in recent years and NCQ is one of its crucial features. Despite the development from IDE to SATA disk, there is still much room for improvement for a SATA disk. In addition, until now a hard disk is a black box to us and it is very hard to make research at the level of a disk controller. To enhance the performance of NCQ, we try to do I/O clustering over the requests, which combines multiple sequential requests into a single large one. To evaluate the effect of an I/O clustering mechanism, we created a simple but practical SATA hard disk simulator. Experimental results show that the proposed approach is effective in enhancing the I/O performance of a SATA disk.

  • A complete modeling of erbium-doped Bismuth-oxide fibers with a high doping concentration is presented. A 6-level amplifier system that incorporated clustering-induced concentration quenching, cooperative upconversion, pump excited state absorption (ESA), and signal ESA, was adopted for the modeling. The accuracy of the modeling was verified by comparing the calculated gain and noise figure with experimentally obtained ones.

  • Most of the sample surveys conducted by several statistics preparation agencies are multipurpose surveys inquiring into several distinguishing items through a single sample. In a multipurpose sample design, the stratification tends to be very complex since the stratification variables which are both multivariate and heterogeneous must be considered collectively. In this paper we point out an outlier effect in a multivariate stratification to which the K-means clustering method is applied and propose to consider outliers prior to the stratification step. We also show an empirical stratification effect under consideration of outliers through a case study of sample design for The Rural Living Indicators.
