  • The origin of magnetic fields in the universe remains an outstanding problem in cosmology. We propose that these fields are produced by shocks during the large-scale structure formation. We discuss the mechanism of the field generation via the counter-streaming (Weibel) instability. We also show that these Weibel-generated fields are long-lived and weakly coupled to dissipation. Subsequent field amplification by the intra-cluster turbulence may also take place, thus maintaining the magnetic energy density close to equipartition.

  • Observations of magnetic fields on scales up to several Mpc are important for understanding cluster and large-scale structure evolution. Our current census of such structures is heavily biased - towards fields of several $\mu$G, towards fields in deep potential wells, and towards high inferred field strengths m cooling flow and other clusters from improper analysis of rotation measure data. After reviewing these biases, I show some recent results on two relics that are powered in very different ways. I describe new investigations that are now uncovering weak diffuse fields in the outskirts of clusters and other low density environments, and the good prospects for further progress.

  • This paper summarizes the recent progress made by our group at Seoul National University on studies of the evolution and formation of distant galaxies. Various research projects are currently underway, which include: (i) the number density of distant early-type galaxies (z < 1); (ii) the optical-NIR color gradient of nearby early-type galaxies; (iii) J - K-selected Extremely Red Objects (EROs) in field (CDF-S) and the cluster environment; and (iv) the Lyman-break galaxies in the Spitzer First Look Survey (FLS) field. These works will constrain the mass evolution and the star formation history of galaxies in different environments, and the results will serve as useful contraints on galaxy formation models.

  • Diffuse radio emission in Abell 2256 was detected above 3 $\sigma$ with DRAO observations at 1420 MHz. The halo size is $\~13' {\times}10' (\~1h^{-1}_{50}\;Mpc$) in full extent and is elongated along a position angle of about $112^{\circ}$. The total flux density contained in the halo is 30$\pm$10 mJy at 1420 MHz and its spectral index is -2.04$\pm$0.04, showing no evidence for steepening up to 1420 MHz. Using the size estimate, yields a more reliable equipartition magnetic field strength which is $0.34(1 + k)^{2/7}{\mu}G$. In addition, five new radio sources are identified.

  • The dynamical evolution of globular clusters is studied using the orbit-averaged multicomponent Fokker-Planck equation. The original code developed by Cohn(1980) is modi-fied to include the effect of stellar evolutions. Plommer's model is chosen as the initial density distribution with the initial mass function index $\alpha$=0.25, 0.65, 1.35, 2.35, and 3.35. The mass loss rate adopted in this work follows that of Fusi-Pecci and Renzini(1976). The stellar mass loss acts as the energy source, and thus affects the dynamical evolution of globular clusters by slowing down the evolution rate and extending the core collapse time Tcc. And the dynamical length scale $$R_c, $$R_h is also extended. This represents the expansion of cluster due to the stellar mass loss.

  • Polymer EL devices of glass/ITO/PI/MEH-PPV/Al structure were fabricated using spin coating and the Ionized Cluster Beam deposition technique. PMDA-ODA type thin polyimide films which can be used as a impurity blocking layer of EL device were deposited by ICB. According to our previous results, the packing densities of polyimide films were subject to change and depend on their deposition condition. By inserting a Pl layer with various thickness and packing density, I-V characteristics and life time of the devices were investigated to determine the role of a interlayer. The blocking of impurity diffusion from ITO to luminescent layer were confirmed by XPS.

  • The reaction mechanisms for the cyclizations of N-methyl-2-(2-chloropyridin-3-yloxy)acetamide to 1-methylpyrido[ 3,2-b][1,4]oxazin-2-one and 1-methyl-pyrido[2,3-b][1,4]oxazin-2-one were investigated using ab initio Hartree-Fock, second-order Moller-Plesset perturbation, single point coupled cluster with both single and double substitution, and density functional theory methods. The 5-membered spiro intermediate (2) is optimized from the cyclization of the acyclic reactants through the proton-transfer reaction, and this intermediate proceeds continuously to the 6-membered intermediate through either a stepwise or a concerted reaction. In the stepwise reaction, an N-bridge-type intermediate as a stable structure is optimized, whereas, in the concerted reaction, the O-bridge-type intermediate is not optimized.

  • structure of matters of Lambda cold dark matter (CDM) cosmology on detailed numerical simulations. To accomplish our research goal, we have added the following baryonic physics on the existing cosmological hydrodynamic code, Gadget-2: 1) radiative heating and cooling, 2) reionization of the Universe and UV shielding, 3) star formation, 4) energy and metallicity feedback by supernova. In addition, we included cluster formation to distinguish clustered star formation inside the very high density gas clumps from the field star formation. Our simulations cover a cubic box of a side length 4Mpc/h with 130 million particles. The mass of each particles is $3.4{\times}104Msun$, thus the GCs can be resolved with more than hundreds particles. We discuss various properties of the GCs such as mass function, specific frequency, baryon-to-dark matter ratio, metallicity, spatial distribution, and orbit eccentricity distribution as functions of redshift. We also discuss how the formation and evolution of the GCs are affected by UV shielding.

  • In this paper, a CLB-based CPLD low-power technology mapping algorithm is proposed. To perform low power technology mapping for CPLD, a given Boolean network have to be represented to DAG. The proposed algorithm are consist of three step. In the first step, TD(Transition Density) calculation have to be performed. In the second step, the feasible clusters are generated by considering the following conditions: the number of output, the number of input and the number of OR-terms for CLB(Common Logic Block) within a CPLD. The common node cluster merging method, the node separation method, and the node duplication method are used to produce the feasible clusters. In the final step, low power technology mapping based on the CLBs is packing the feasible clusters into the several proper CLBs. Therefore the proposed algorithm is proved an efficient algorithm for a low power CPLD technology mapping.
