Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is researched in various filed. Underwater Sensor Network (UWSN) is used various purpose such as underwater environment monitoring. But, WSN is researched in the terrestrial that uses mainly radio frequency, The existing terrestrial research is incongruent to apply to underwater. Therefore, we propose UWSN architecture that considers underwater environment. In this paper, UWSN applied cluster technique and functional node constructs. Each cluster collects and sends cluster data. Dual super cluster head receives cluster data and transmits each in the base-station. We implement WSN routing algorithm, and construct test-bed and analyze cluster data receive rate.

Centralized hierarchical routing protocols are often used to solve the problems of uneven energy consumption and short network life in wireless sensor networks (WSNs). Clustering and cluster head election have become the focuses of WSNs. In this paper, an energy balanced clustering routing algorithm optimized by sine cosine algorithm (SCA) is proposed. Firstly, optimal cluster head number per round is determined according to surviving node, and the candidate cluster head set is formed by selecting high-energy node. Secondly, a random population with a certain scale is constructed to represent a group of cluster head selection scheme, and fitness function is designed according to inter-cluster distance. Thirdly, the SCA algorithm is improved by using monotone decreasing convex function, and then a certain number of iterations are carried out to select a group of individuals with the minimum fitness function value. From simulation experiments, the process from the first death node to 80% only needs about 30 rounds. This improved algorithm balances the energy consumption among nodes and avoids premature death of some nodes. And it greatly improves the energy utilization and extends the effective life of the whole network.
The Cluster-based routing protocol is consumed the energy consumption efficiently, but there are many isolated nodes while clustering, so these are impeding energy efficiency. Hop-by-hop based routing protocol is suitable large-scaled network or dynamic environment. However, with the periodic flooding signal and rapid energy loss of near sink nodes, the network life time become shorter. In this paper, We propose the hybrid routing protocol that combine the cluster based routing method for energy efficiency of nodes and hop-by-hop method for re-joining the isolated nodes and load balance of nodes in the near cluster using fibonacci sequence. Based on the analysis, it is proved that the hybrid routing protocol provided higher energy efficiency and less the isolated nodes than previous methods.

Nowadays, the Internet of Things (IoT) is adopted to enable effective and smooth communication among different networks. In some specific application, the Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) are used in IoT to gather peculiar data without the interaction of human. The WSNs are self-organizing in nature, so it mostly prefer multi-hop data forwarding. Thus to achieve better communication, a cross-layer routing strategy is preferred. In the cross-layer routing strategy, the routing processed through three layers such as transport, data link, and physical layer. Even though effective communication achieved via a cross-layer routing strategy, energy is another constraint in WSN assisted IoT. Cluster-based communication is one of the most used strategies for effectively preserving energy in WSN routing. This paper proposes a Bio-inspired cross-layer routing (BiHCLR) protocol to achieve effective and energy preserving routing in WSN assisted IoT. Initially, the deployed sensor nodes are arranged in the form of a grid as per the grid-based routing strategy. Then to enable energy preservation in BiHCLR, the fuzzy logic approach is executed to select the Cluster Head (CH) for every cell of the grid. Then a hybrid bio-inspired algorithm is used to select the routing path. The hybrid algorithm combines moth search and Salp Swarm optimization techniques. The performance of the proposed BiHCLR is evaluated based on the Quality of Service (QoS) analysis in terms of Packet loss, error bit rate, transmission delay, lifetime of network, buffer occupancy and throughput. Then these performances are validated based on comparison with conventional routing strategies like Fuzzy-rule-based Energy Efficient Clustering and Immune-Inspired Routing (FEEC-IIR), Neuro-Fuzzy- Emperor Penguin Optimization (NF-EPO), Fuzzy Reinforcement Learning-based Data Gathering (FRLDG) and Hierarchical Energy Efficient Data gathering (HEED). Ultimately the performance of the proposed BiHCLR outperforms all other conventional techniques.

To establish the equitable distribution of total energy load, a representative cluster based routing protocol LEACH selects cluster heads randomly in accordance with the pre-determined probability every round. But because the current energy level of sensor nodes is not considered, if a sensor node which has little residual energy is elected as a cluster head, it can not live to fulfil the role of cluster head which has big energy load. As a result, the first time of death of a node is quickened and the service quality of WSN gets worse. In this regard we propose a new routing method that, by considering the current energy of a cluster head and the distance between cluster heads and a base station, selects the sub cluster head for saving the energy of a cluster head. Simulation results show that the first time of death of a node prolongs, more data arrive at the base station and the service quality of WSN improves.

Efficient energy management is a very important factor in sensor networks with limited resources, and cluster techniques have been studied a lot in this respect. However, a problem may occur in which energy use of the cluster header is concentrated, and when the cluster header is not evenly distributed over the entire area but concentrated in a specific area, the transmission distance of the cluster members may be large or very uneven. The transmission distance can be directly related to the problem of energy consumption. Since the energy of a specific node is quickly exhausted, the lifetime of the sensor network is shortened, and the efficiency of the entire sensor network is reduced. Thus, balanced energy consumption of sensor nodes is a very important research task. In this study, factors for balanced energy consumption by cluster headers and sensor nodes are analyzed, and a balancing distribution clustering method in which cluster headers are balanced distributed throughout the sensor network is proposed. The proposed cluster method uses multi-hop routing to reduce energy consumption of sensor nodes due to long-distance transmission. Existing multi-hop cluster studies sets up a multi-hop cluster path through a two-step process of cluster setup and routing path setup, whereas the proposed method establishes a hierarchical cluster routing path in the process of selecting cluster headers to minimize the overhead of control messages.

The field of body sensor networks has attracted interest of many researchers due to its potential to revolutionize medicine. These sensors are usually implanted inside the human body and communicate among themselves. In the process of receiving, processing, or transmitting data, these devices produce heat. This heat damages the tissues surrounding the devices in the case of prolonged exposure. In this paper, to reduce this damages, we have improved and evaluated two protocols-the least temperature routing protocol and adaptive least temperature routing protocol-by implementing clustering as well as a leadership rotation algorithm. We used Castalia to simulate a basic body area network cluster composed of 6 nodes. A throughput application was used to simulate all the nodes sending data to one sink node. Simulations results shows that improved communication protocol with leadership rotation algorithm significantly reduce the energy consumption as compared to a scheme without leadership rotation algorithm.

In this paper, we propose a scalable content-based routing scheme for the tactical mobile ad-hoc networks where the nodes usually move together forming a group. Our scheme is classified as a content-based routing scheme based on publish and subscribe model. The nodes compose a cluster according to their position and interest. Our scheme allows multi-level cluster nesting. As a publish/subscribe model does, each node announces its interest to the cluster head who aggregates and announces the interests from cluster members to its neighbor cluster head. Actual data messages are delivered to the end node via cluster header in the reverse direction of the interest announcement. Using Qualnet simulator, we evaluated the performance of our scheme in comparison with two well-known content-based routing schemes. Simulation results show that our scheme maintains higher message delivery ratio as number of nodes increases whereas the two schemes show much lower delivery ratio. In addition, as the group mobility gets faster our scheme incurs less or similar control message overhead compared with the two schemes.

In the Cluster-Based Routing Protocol (CBRP) a cluster header in each cluster should be elected. The cluster headers consume energy much more than other nodes because they manage and operate all of mobile nodes in their cluster. The traditional CBRP elects a cluster header without considering the remaining electric energy of each node. So, there exists problems that the cluster header has short average lifetime, and another cluster header should be elected again frequently. In this paper, we propose the improved protocol which prolongs the lifetime of the cluster header and enhances the stability of the path. In order to achieve this, when a cluster header is elected in a cluster, the remaining electric energies of all the nodes are compared with one another, and the node with the highest energy is elected as the cluster header.
The existing cluster-based routing protocols have some problems. Firstly, because of selecting cluster head at random, they occur a node concentration problem. Secondly, they have a low reliability for data communication due to the less consideration of node communication range. Finally, data communication overhead is greatly increased because of sending all sensor node information to sink node for constructing clusters. To solve these problems, we in this paper, propose a cluster-based routing protocol using message reception success rate. Firstly, to solve the node concentration problem, we design a cluster head selection algorithm based on node connectivity and devise cluster spliting/merging algorithms. Secondly, to guarantee data communication reliability, we use message reception success rate. Finally, to reduce data communication overhead, we use only neighbor nodes information at both cluster construction and cluster head selection.
