This is the study about the meteorological satellite cloud image classification by objective methods. For objective cloud classification, linear discriminant analysis was tried. In the linear discriminant analysis 27 cloud characteristic parameters were retrieved from GMS infrared image data. And, linear cloud classification model was developed from major parameters and cloud type coefficients. The model was applied to GMS IR image for weather forecasting operation and cloud image was classified into 5 types such as Sc, Cu, CiT, CiM and Cb. The classification results were reasonably compared with real image.
In this study, 14 heavy snow events in Yeongdong area which are local phenomena are analyzed using MODIS cloud products provided from NASA/GSFC. The clouds of Yeongdong area at observed at specific time by MODIS are classified into A, B, C Types, based on the characteristic of cloud properties: cloud top temperature, cloud optical thickness, Effective Particle Radius, and Cloud Particle Phase. The analysis of relations between cloud properties and precipitation amount for each cloud type show that there are statistically significant correlations between Cloud Optical Thickness and precipitation amount for both A and B type and also significant correlation is found between Cloud Top Temperature and precipitation amount for A type. However, for C type there is not any significant correlations between cloud properties and precipitation amount. A-type clouds are mainly lower stratus clouds with small-size droplet, which may be formed under the low level cold advection derived synoptically in the East sea. B-type clouds are developed cumuliform clouds, which are closely related to the low pressure center developing over the East sea. On the other hand, C-type clouds are likely multi-layer clouds, which make satellite observation difficult due to covering of high clouds over low level clouds directly related with Yeongdong heavy snow. It is, therefore, concluded that MODIS cloud products may be useful except the multi-layer clouds for understanding the mechanism of heavy snow and estimating the precipitation amount from satellite data in the case of Yeongdong heavy snow.
Cloud is emerging as a key factor in digital transformation. In particular, the industry is paying attention to cloud as a key factor in economic revitalization after COVID-19. In this economic environment, cloud companies can survive only through continuous innovation. In this study, we propose the innovation types of cloud companies using the meta model, which is a high-level conceptual model that generalizes various corporate activities. The proposed cloud company innovation type applies a conceptual model divided into two axes such as the corporate value chain and the business management layer. The contribution of this study is to provide a basis for research in a new academic field called corporate innovation in the cloud domain, and to provide decision-making tools for diagnosing innovation levels or exploring innovation directions for cloud companies.
Cloud amount calculation algorithm was developed using MTSAT-1R satellite data. The cloud amount is retrieved at 5 km ${\times}$ 5 km over the Korean Peninsula and adjacent sea area. The algorithm consists of three steps that are cloud detection, cloud type classification, and cloud amount calculation. At the first step, dynamic thresholds method was applied for detecting cloud pixels. For using objective thresholds in the algorithm, sensitivity test was performed for TBB and Albedo variation with temporal and spatial change. Detected cloud cover was classified into 3 cloud types (low-level cloud, cirrus or uncertain cloud, and cumulonimbus type high-level cloud) in second step. Finally, cloud amount was calculated by the integration method of the steradian angle of each cloud pixel over $3^{\circ}$ elevation. Calculated cloud amount was compared with measured cloud amount with eye at surface observatory for the validation. Bias, RMSE, and correlation coefficient were 0.4, 1.8, and 0.8, respectively. Validation results indicated that calculated cloud amount was a little higher than measured cloud amount but correlation was considerably high. Since calculated cloud amount has 5km ${\times}$ 5km resolution over Korean Peninsula and adjacent sea area, the satellite-driven cloud amount could show the possibility which overcomes the temporal and spatial limitation of measured cloud amount with eye at surface observatory.
This study classified heavy rain types from K-means clustering for the hourly relationship between rainfall intensity and cloud top height over the Korean peninsula, and then examined their statistical characteristics for the period of June~August 2013~2018. Total rainfall amount of warm-type events was 2.65 times larger than that of the cold-type, whereas the lightning frequency divided by total rainfall for the warm-type was only 46% of the cold-type. Typical cold-type cases exhibited high cloud top height around 16 km, large reflectivity in the upper layer, and frequent lightning flashes under convectively unstable condition. Phenomenally, the cold-type cases corresponded to cloud cluster or multi-cell thunderstorms. However, two warm-type cases related to Changma and typhoon were characterized by heavy rainfall due to long duration, relatively low cloud top height and upper-level reflectivity, and the absence of lightning under the convectively neutral and extremely humid conditions. This study further confirmed that the forecast skill of rainfall could be improved by applying correction factor with the overestimation for cold-type and underestimation for warm-type cases in the Local Data Assimilation and Prediction System (LDAPS) operational model (e.g., BIAS score was improved by 5%).

Cloud detection and analysis from satellite images has been a topic of research in many atmospheric and environmental studies; however, it still is a challenging task for many reasons. In this paper, we propose a new method for cloud-type classification using fuzzy logic. Knowing that visible-light images of clouds contain thickness related information, while infrared images haves height-related information, we propose a two-layered fuzzy logic based on the input source to provide us with a relatively clear-cut threshold in classification. Traditional noise-removal methods that use reflection/release characteristics of infrared images often produce false positive cloud areas, such as fog thereby it negatively affecting the classification accuracy. In this study, we used the color information from source images to extract the region of interest while avoiding false positives. The structure of fuzzy inference was also changed, because we utilized three types of source images: visible-light, infrared, and near-infrared images. When a cloud appears in both the visible-light image and the infrared image, the fuzzy membership function has a different form. Therefore we designed two sets of fuzzy inference rules and related classification rules. In our experiment, the proposed method was verified to be efficient and more accurate than the previous fuzzy logic attempt that used infrared image features.
A simple bispectral threshold technique which reflects the temporal and spatial characteristics of the analysis area has been developed to classify the cloud type and estimate the cloud cover from GMS/S-VISSR(Stretched Visible and Infrared Spin Scan Radiometer) imagery. In this research, we divided the analysis area into land and sea to consider their different optical properties and used the same time observation data to exclude the solar zenith angle effects included in the raw data. Statistical clear sky radiance(CSRs) was constructed using maximum brightness temperature and minimum albedo from the S-VISSR imagery data during consecutive two weeks. The CSR used in the cloud anaysis was updated on the daily basis by using CSRs, the standard deviation of CSRs and present raw data to reflect the daily variation of temperature. Thresholds were applied to classify the cloud type and estimate the cloud cover from GMS/S-VISST imagery. We used a different thresholds according to the earth surface type and the thresholds were enough to resolve the spatial variation of brightness temperature and the noise in raw data. To classify the ambiguous pixels, we used the time series of 2-D histogram and local standard deviation, and the results showed a little improvements. Visual comparisons among the present research results, KMA's manual analysis and observed sea level charts showed a good agreement in quality.
The physicochemical qualities, antioxidant activities, and polyphenols composition of eight kinds of cloud and clear apple juice products marketed in Korea were investigated. The acidities of eight kinds of cloud and clear apple juice products were in the range of 0.299~0.556 and showed no significant difference (p<0.05). The soluble solid contents of the cloud type were higher than those of the clear type which had higher reducing sugar contents. The color value and turbidity of the cloud type were also higher, but the vitamin c contents showed no significant differences. The total phenolic contents of the cloud type (1.13~1.42 g/L) were four fold to eight fold higher than the clear type (0.12~0.32 g/L). Nine polyphenolic compounds, including chlorogenic acid, caffeic acid (-)-epicatechin, quercitrin, phloridzin, and 5-hydroxymethyl furfural (5-HMF), were isolated by HPLC analysis, and the total amount of the cloud type (319.37~985.63 mg/L) was higher than that of the clear type (92.88~214.39 mg/L). The antioxidant activities, by DPPH and FRAP assays, of the cloud type showed stronger than those of the clear type. The antioxidant activity and the color value were highly correlated with total phenolic content and polyphenols content (r>0.95).
Many people expect remarkable growth in Cloud Computing industry because of it's effectiveness. But Cloud Computing industry is still at an early stage. Especially, people who in the public sector hesitate to adopt Cloud Computing Services due to security issues and their conservative views. Also, they just have limited understanding, so we need to investigate what they really know and understand. The purpose of this study is to propose Improvement plans on cloud-based smart work service of a quasi-governmental agency based on the view point of preference and tendency. To discover three types of cloud-based smart work issues and interpret theoretical definitions of those, we conducted a subjectivity analysis through qualitative methodology. At the result, the study draws three elements of typology: convenience type, concentration type, and collaboration type, and provides directions to strategic-policy studies for future cloud-based smart work services of quasi-governmental agency.
Depending on the increase amongst various cloud services, the technology of the Cloud Service Broker (CSB) to find the most appropriate services to meet the needs of cloud service consumers has emerged. In order to advance for cloud services to be used through the CSB, it is important to ensure the quality level that meets the demands of consumers through a negotiation process based on the Service Level Agreement (SLA). However, quality metrics of cloud services are different from each other based on the measurement scale, which represents the quality level, and the calculation for each type of cloud services. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the variability of the quality of cloud services and establish a SLA model for ensuring and improving the level of quality. In this paper, we analyze the quality metrics for the specific type of cloud services by applying the cross-cutting concept and propose a Virtual SLA (VSLA) meta-model.
