  • This paper proposed a novel method for constructing quasi-cyclic low-density parity-check (QC-LDPC) codes of medium to high code rates that can be applied in cloud data storage systems, requiring better error correction capabilities. The novelty of this method lies in the construction of sparse base matrices, using a girth greater than 4 that can then be expanded with a lift factor to produce high code rate QC-LDPC codes. Investigations revealed that the proposed large-sized QC-LDPC codes with high code rates displayed low encoding complexities and provided a low bit error rate (BER) of 10-10 at 3.5 dB Eb/N0 than conventional LDPC codes, which showed a BER of 10-7 at 3 dB Eb/N0. Subsequently, implementation of the proposed QC-LDPC code in a softwaredefined radio, using the NI USRP 2920 hardware platform, was conducted. As a result, a BER of 10-6 at 4.2 dB Eb/N0 was achieved. Then, the performance of the proposed codes based on their encoding-decoding speeds and storage overhead was investigated when applied to a cloud data storage (GCP). Our results revealed that the proposed codes required much less time for encoding and decoding (of data files having a 10 MB size) and produced less storage overhead than the conventional LDPC and Reed-Solomon codes.

  • This study is centered on the combined use of LiDAR(Light Detection and Ranging) and AR(Augmented Reality) technologies during vertical and horizontal frame measurements in construction projects. The intention is to enhance the quality control procedure, elevate accuracy, and curtail manual labor along with time expenditure. Present methods for accuracy inspection in frame construction often grapple with reliability concerns due to subjective interpretation and the scope for human error. This research recommends the application of LiDAR and AR technologies to counter these issues and augment the efficiency of the inspection process, along with facilitating the dissemination of results. The suggested technique involves the collection of 3D point cloud data of the frame utilizing LiDAR and leveraging this data for checks on construction accuracy. Furthermore, the inspection outcomes are fed into a BIM (Building Information Modeling) model, and the results are visualized via AR. Upon juxtaposing this methodology with the current approach, it is evident that it offers benefits in terms of objective inspection, speed, precise result sharing, and potential enhancements to the overall quality and productivity of construction projects.

  • To evaluate readily the effect of unconfined vapor cloud explosion(UVCE) having high possibility of accident and risk in chemical industries, the expert system of UVCE was developed and its applicability on a real accident was analyzed. We found that the hazard of UVCE could be well evaluated from the TNT equivalency model and the empirical loss data produced by overpressure for chemical facilities. By using the developed expert system, the size of vapor cloud, the quantity of vaporization, the released energy, the overpressure range from explosion point, and the impact damage of each installation could be estimated respectively. Also, probable maximum loss and catastrophic loss potential for real accident( cyclohexane release in Flixborough Nypro company) were estimated and compared with damages of the accident. As a result, the developed expert system could be well applicable to real accident.

  • Recently, many scan projects are gradually increasing for maintenance, construction. The scan data contains useful data, which can be generated in the target application from the facility, space. However, modeling the scan data required for the application requires a lot of cost. In example, the converting 3D point cloud obtained from scan data into 3D object is a time-consuming task, and the modeling task is still very manual. This research proposes Scan-to-Geometry Mapping Rule Definition (S2G-MD) which maps point cloud data to geometry for irregular building plane objects. The S2G-MD considers user use case variability. The method to define rules for mapping scan to geometry is proposed. This research supports the reverse engineering semi-automatic process for the building planar geometry from the user perspective.

  • Recently BIM technology has been expanded for using in construction project. Due to the high-cost of BIM infrastructure development, lack of regulations, lack of process and so forth, usage of BIM has been delayed than initial expectations. In design phase, especially, collaboration based on BIM system has been a key factor for successful next generation building project. Through the analysis of current research trends about IT technologies, virtualization and BIM service, data exchange such as drawings, 3D model, object data, properties using cloud computing and virtual server system is defined as a most successful solution. The purpose of this study is to enable the cloud computing BIM server to provide several main functions such as editing models, 3D model viewing and checking, mark-up and snapshot in high-performance quality by proper design of VDI system. Concurrent client connection performance is a main technical index of VDI. Through testing of test-bed server client, developed VDI system's multi-connect control is evaluated. Performance-test result of BIM server VDI effect to development direction of cloud computing BIM service for commercialization.

  • With the fast development in wireless communications and vehicular technologies, vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) have enabled to deliver data between vehicles. Recently, VANETs introduce a Vehicular Cloud (VC) model for collaborating to share and use resources of vehicles to create value-added services. To construct a VC, a vehicle should search vehicles that intend to provide their own resource. The single-hop search cannot search enough provider vehicles due to a small coverage and non-line-of-sights of communications. On the other hand, the multi-hop search causes very high traffics for large coverage searching and frequent connection breakages. Recently, many Roadside Units (RSUs) have been deployed on roads to collect the information of vehicles in their own coverages and to connect them to Internet. Thus, we propose a RSU-aided vehicular resource search and cloud construction mechanism in VANETS. In the proposed mechanism, a RSU collects the information of location and mobility of vehicles and selects provider vehicles enabled to provide resources needed for constructing a VC of a requester vehicle based on the collected information. In the proposed mechanism, the criteria for determining provider vehicles to provide resources are the connection duration between each candidate vehicle and the requester vehicle, the resource size of each candidate vehicle, and its connection starting time to the requester vehicle. Simulation results verify that the proposed mechanism achieves better performance than the existing mechanism.

  • Since the introduction of digital cameras in an aerial-photogrammetry field on 2006, the technological paradigm related to the photogrammetry has been shifting from the analog types to digital types. However, current construction standard cost for the aerial-photogrammetry and the digital mapping are being mixed with analog-based concepts and digital-based methods. In the current standard cost, the monthly weather table is closely related to the calculation of the number of flying days in a taking of aerial photograph. The current monthly weather table uses the results calculated from the observation data of total cloud amount from 1999 to 2007. In this study, the monthly weather table was calculated using the total cloud data during ten years from 2009 to 2018. As a result, the newly calculated number of clear days for 29 stations was analyzed as 44 days decreased by 6 days. The maximum number of clear days decreased in Jinju as 23 days, and the highest decreased clearing days was February.

  • Point cloud is a set of points for representing a 3D object, and consists of geometric information, which is 3D coordinate information, and attribute information, which is information representing color, reflectance, and the like. In this way of expressing, it has a vast amount of data compared to 2D images. Therefore, a process of compressing the point cloud data in order to transmit the point cloud data or use it in various fields is required. Unlike color information corresponding to all 2D geometric information constituting a 2D image, a point cloud represents a point cloud including attribute information such as color in only a part of the 3D space. Therefore, separate processing of geometric information is also required. Based on these characteristics of point clouds, MPEG under ISO/IEC standardizes V-PCC, which imitates point cloud images and compresses them into 2D DCT-based 2D image compression codecs, as a compression method for high-density point cloud data. This has limitations in accurately representing 3D spatial information to proceed with compression by converting 3D point clouds to 2D, and difficulty in processing non-existent points when utilizing 3D DCT. Therefore, in this paper, we present 3D Discrete Cosine Transform-based Point Cloud Compression (3DCT PCC), a method to compress point cloud data, which is a 3D image by utilizing 3D DCT, and confirm the efficiency of 3D DCT compared to V-PCC based on 2D DCT.

  • Google provides mapping services using satellite imagery, this is widely used for the study. Since about 20 years ago, research and business using drones have been expanding. Pix4D is widely used to create 3D information models using drones. This study compared the distance error by comparing the result of the road construction site with the DSM data of Google Earth and Pix4 D. Through this, we tried to understand the reliability of the result of distance measurement in Google Earth. A DTM result of 3.08 cm/pixel was obtained as a result of matching with 49666 key points for each image. The length and altitude of Pix4D and Google Earth were measured and compared using the obtained PCD. As a result, the average error of the distance based on the data of Pix4D was measured to be 0.68 m, confirming that the error was relatively small. As a result of measuring the altitude of Google Earth and Pix4D and comparing them, it was confirmed that the maximum error was 83.214m, which was measured using satellite images, but the error was quite large and there was inaccuracy. Through this, it was confirmed that there are difficulties in analyzing and acquiring data at road construction sites using Google Earth, and the result was obtained that point cloud data using drones is necessary.
