Fundamental research for the development of personal protective equipment for emergency medical technicians (구급대원용 개인보호복 개발을 위한 기초연구)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to provide basic data for the development of personal protective equipment (PPE) for emergency medical technicians (EMTs) during chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive situations. Methods: Body measurements were obtained for adults aged from 20 to 59 years from the data in the 6 th Size Korea national sizing survey. These data were compared to the sizes of protective clothing currently available in the market. In-depth interviews with active paramedics with experiences of wearing PPE were conducted. Results: Most of the imported protective clothing turned out to be unfit for Korean adults. This showed the urgent need for developing appropriately sized protective clothing for Korean emergency technicians. In total, 55.0% of the respondents indicated that the current protective clothing is unsafe, and 71.0% requested the clothing to have level C protective performance. Regarding the design, many people wanted hooded all-in-one type of clothing. Conclusion: Considering these requirements, most of the wearers wanted their protective clothing to be fundamentally protective of their body, be available in various sizes with adjustable parts, and easy to wear and take off. They also wanted the clothing to be secure in clear sight, while not revealing any parts of their body and not interfringe with their ability to communicate with others.

A Study on the Measurement of Clothing Behavior of Elementary School Children (학령기 아동의 의복행동 측정도구 개발에 관한 연구 -4, 5, 6학년 아동을 중심으로-)

  • The purpose of this study was to develope a questionaire measuring clothing behavior of elementary school children. At first, after pretest, the clothing behavior questionaire consisted of 70 items which were devidad. into 7 subscales i.e. Clothing interest. Clothing satisfaction. Clothing management, Clothing sex-role. Clothing comfort. Clothing conformity. and Clothing independence. Each item was rated on a 3-point scale. Samples were 447 boys and girls (4 th, 5 th, 6 th grade) of three elementary schools in Seoul. Korea. The data were analyzed by item analysis and factor analysis. Factor analysis was useful in attempting to establish contruct validity. Item validity was examined based on the correlation coefficients and item discriminating power through the chi-square. Reliability was examined based on the Cronbach's Alpha Reliability Coefficient and test-retest method. With this analysis the subscales were reconstructed to following 6 factors. Clothing conformity items were not clustered by the factor analysis. 52 items of 6 factors selected by the analysis. The factors characteristics were as follows: 1. Clothing interest (10 items) 2. Clothing satisfaction (11 items) 3. Clothing management (8 items) 4. Clothing sex-role (12 items) 5. Clothing comfort (6 items) 6. Clothing independence (5 items)

  • A vertical skin model with two detachable environmental chambers was developed to simulate a Human-Clothing-Environment system and to evaluate heat and moisture transport properties of textile materials under severe conditions and during transient states. The construction of the system was described and data reproducibility and accuracy of the instrument were verified by using PEG treated nonwovens. Also advantages over a traditional static type experiment were demonstrated based on a series of experiments.

The Relationship of Masstige Clothing Benefit Seeking and Brand Loyalty (경주시 대학생의 매스티지 의류추구혜택과 상표충성도의 관계)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship of masstige clothing benefit seeking and brand loyalty. The data were collected from university students, 248 males and 262 females, living in Gyeong-ju, via a self-administered questionnaire. The data were analyzed by reliability analysis, factor analysis, Pearson's correlation, regression analysis, and t-test. The results of this study were as follows: 1) Four factors of the masstige clothing benefit seeking were identified; the rise of the social position and self-improvement, the popularity and durability, the desire for individuality and favorable impression, and the rare and precious value. Three factors of the brand loyalty were identified; the committed brand loyalty, the continued brand loyalty, and the symbolic brand loyalty. 2) The committed brand loyalty had a positive relation with two factors of masstige clothing benefit seeking, that is, the popularity and durability, the desire for individuality and favorable impression. The symbolic brand loyalty had a positive relation with the rise of the social position and self-improvement of masstige clothing benefit seeking. 3) There was sex difference on the desire for individuality and favorable impression, the popularity and durability of the masstige clothing benefit seeking. Also, there was sex difference on the committed brand loyalty.

The Influence of Aesthetic Surgery Attitude, Self-Esteem and Body Image on Clothing Behavior (성형태도, 자아존중감, 신체이미지와 의복행동간의 관계)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of aesthetic surgery attitude, self-esteem and body image on clothing behavior. Subjects were 356 female college students in Seoul. The data obtained were analyzed by reliability analysis, factor analysis, correlation analysis, stepwise multiple regression analysis and t-test. The major results of this study were as follows: First, five factors of aesthetic surgery attitude were identified: risk tolerance of aesthetic surgery, need of aesthetic surgery, image improvement via aesthetic surgery, keeping the secret of aesthetic surgery, and others' expectation of aesthetic surgery. Second, significant relationships were found between body image and clothing behavior, and self-esteem and body-enhancement of clothing. Also, risk tolerance of aesthetic surgery, need of aesthetic surgery, and image improvement via aesthetic surgery had a significant correlation with clothing behavior. Third, the most important variable which affected the aesthetics and body-enhancement of clothing was body image. The entertainer imitation behavior of clothing was influenced by need of aesthetic surgery, body image, keeping the secret of aesthetic surgery, risk tolerance of aesthetic surgery, and image improvement via aesthetic surgery. Preference for luxury goods of clothing was influenced by need of aesthetic surgery and body image. Body-enhancement of clothing was influenced by body image, image improvement via aesthetic surgery, and self-esteem.
