A Basic Helix-Loop-Helix Transcription Factor Regulates Cell Elongation and Seed Germination

  • Plants are sessile and rely on a wide variety of growth hormones to adjust growth and development in response to internal and external stimuli. We have identified a gene, designated NAN, encoding a basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) transcription factor that regulates cell elongation and seed germination in plants. NAN has an HLH motif in its C-terminal region but does not have any other discernible homologies to bHLH proteins. A bipartite nuclear localization signal is located close to the HLH motif. An Arabidopsis mutant, nan-1D, in which NAN is activated by the insertion of the 35S enhancer, exhibits growth retardation with short hypocotyls and curled leaves. It is also characterized by reduced seed germination and apical hook formation, symptomatic of GA deficiency or disrupted GA signaling. The phenotypic effects of nan-1D were increased by treatment with paclobutrazol (PAC), an inhibitor of gibberellic acid (GA) biosynthesis. NAN is constitutively expressed throughout the life cycle. Our observations indicate that NAN has a housekeeping role in plant growth and development, particularly in seed germination and cell elongation, and that it may modulate GA signaling.

Torque-Angle-Based Direct Torque Control for Interior Permanent-Magnet Synchronous Motor Drivers in Electric Vehicles

  • A modified direct torque control (DTC) method based on torque angle is proposed for interior permanent-magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) drivers used in electric vehicles (EVs). Given the close relationship between torque and torque angle, proper voltage vectors are selected by the proposed DTC method to change the torque angle rapidly and regulate the torque quickly. The amplitude and angle of the voltage vectors are determined by the torque loop and stator flux-linkage loop, respectively, with the help of the position of the stator flux linkage. Furthermore, to satisfy the torque performance request of EVs, the nonlinear dead-time of the invertor caused by parasitic capacitances is considered and compensated to improve steady torque performance. The stable operation region of the IPMSM DTC driver for voltage and current limits is investigated for reliability. The experimental results prove that the proposed DTC has good torque performance with a brief control structure.

Analysis of hysteresis rule of energy-saving block and invisible multi-ribbed frame composite wall

  • The energy-saving block and invisible multi-ribbed frame composite wall (EBIMFCW) is a new type of load-bearing wall. The study of this paper focus on it is hysteresis rule under horizontal cyclic loading. Firstly, based on the experimental data of the twelve specimens under horizontal cyclic loading, the influence of two important parameters of axial compression ratio and shear-span ratio on the restoring force model was analyzed. Secondly, a tetra-linear restoring force model considering four feature points and the degradation law of unloading stiffness was established by combining theoretical analysis and regression analysis of experimental data, and the theoretical formula of the peak load of the EBIMFCW was derived. Finally, the hysteretic path of the restoring force model was determined by analyzing the hysteresis characteristics of the typical hysteresis loop. The results show that the curves calculated by the tetra-linear restoring force model in this paper agree well with the experimental curves, especially the calculated values of the peak load of the wall are very close to the experimental values, which can provide a reference for the elastic-plastic analysis of the EBIMFCW.

MATLAB/Simulink기반 HILS 환경 구축 및 제어 성능 검증 (Design and control performance validation of HILS system based on MATLAB/Simulink)

  • In this study, a hardware-in-the-loop simulation (HILS) environment was established using MATLAB/Simulink to simulate and verify the power performance of a wind turbine. The target wind turbine was selected as the NREL 5 MW model, and modeling was performed based on the disclosed specifications. The HILS environment consists of a PC equipped with a MATLAB/Simulink program, a programmable logic controller (PLC) for uploading and linking control algorithms, and data acquisition (DAQ) equipment to manage wind turbine data input and output. The operation of the HILS environment was carried out as a procedure of operation (PC) of the target wind turbine modeled based on MATLAB/Simulink, data acquisition (PLC) of control algorithms, control command calculation (PLC), and control command input (PC). The simulation was performed using the HILS environment under turbulent wind conditions and compared with the simulation results performed under the same conditions in the HILS environment using the commercial program Bladed for performance verification. From the comparison, it was found that the dynamic simulation results of the Bladed HILS and the MATLAB HILS were close in power performances and the errors in the average values of rotor rotation speed and power generation between the two simulations were about 0.44 % and 3.3 %, respectively.

웨스팅하우스형 원전의 보조급수계통 설계변경 영향 평가 (A Safety Improvement for the Design Change of Westinghouse 2 Loop Auxiliary Feedwater System)

  • The auxiliary feedwater is an important to remove the heat from the reactor core when the main feedwater system is unavailable. In most initiating events in Probabilistic Safety Assessment(PSA), the operaton of this system is required to mitigate the accidents. For one of domestic nuclear power plants, a design change of a turbine-driven auxiliary feedwater pump(TD-AFWP), pipe, and valves in the auxiliary system is implemented due to the aging related deterioration by long time operation. This change includes the replacement of the TD-AFWP, the relocation of some valves for improving the system availability, a new cross-tie line, and the installation of manual valves for maintenance. The design modification affects the PSA because the system is critical to mitigate the accidents. In this paper, the safety effect of the change of the auxiliary feedwater system is assessed with regard to the PSA view point. The results demonstrate that this change can supply the auxiliary feedwater from the TD-AFWP in the accident with the motor-driven auxiliary feedwater pump(MD-AFWP) unavailable due to test or maintenance. In addition, the change of MOV's normal position from "close" to "open" can deliver the water to steam generator in the loss of offsite power(LOOP) event. Therefore, it is confirmed that the design change of the auxiliary feedwater system reduces the total core damage frequency(CDF).

Development of a Preliminary Formation-Flying Testbed for Satellite Relative Navigation and Control

  • This research develops a GPS-based formation-flying testbed (FFTB) for formation navigation and control. The FFTB is a simulator in which spacecraft simulation and modeling software and loop test capabilities are integrated for test and evaluation of spacecraft navigation and formation control technologies. The FFTB is composed of a GPS measurement simulation computer, flight computer, environmental computer for providing true environment data and 3D visualization computer. The testbed can be simulated with one to two spacecraft, thus enabling a variety of navigation and control algorithms to be evaluated. In a formation flying simulation, GPS measurement are generated by a GPS measurement simulator to produce pseudorange, carrier phase measurements, which are collected and exchanged by the flight processors and subsequently processed in a navigation filter to generate relative and/or absolute state estimates. These state estimates are the fed into control algorithm, which are used to generate maneuvers required to maintain the formation. In this manner, the flight processor also serves as a test platform for candidate formation control algorithm. Such maneuvers are fed back through the controller and applied to the modeled truth trajectories to close simulation loop. Currently, The FFTB has a closed-loop capability of simulating a satellite navigation solution using software based GPS measurement, we move forward to improve using SPIRENT GPS RF signal simulator and space-based GPS receiver

  • The addition of switches to a distribution feeder does, in general, increase reliability by decreasing the duration of the outage of many to the customers on the feeder. To cover its service area so that feeder-level delivery reaches sufficiently close to all customers, feeders typically split their routes many times, in what is often called a lateral feeder. It is interesting to note, however, that the effectiveness of a switch is very much dependent on the types of lateral feeder. The types of lateral are classified into two types. The first is loop lateral feeder that can connect its load to an adjacent feeder through a tie line in case that a fault occurs in its feeder and it is laid out so that every feeder has complete fault backup through re-switching of its loads to other sources like a main feeder The second is the radial lateral feeder cannot connect its load to an adjacent line, no provision is made for contingency backup of feeders. There are no other circuits in the radial lateral feeder form which to restore power. In this study, we evaluate the effectiveness of a switch installation between on the radial and loop lateral feeders to increase reliability by decreasing the duration of the outage. These results can help power utility to design the switch layouts on the radial and loop lateral feeder system.

상악 4절치의 후방견인시 나타나는 현상에 관한 유한요소법적 분석 (THREE-DIMENSIONAL FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS OF THE PHENOMENON PRODUCED DURING RETRACTION OF FOUR MAXILLARY INCISORS)

  • 상악치열에서 제 1 소구치를 발거하고, 이 위치로 견치를 후방이동시킨 상태에서 retraction archwire를 사용하여 상악 4절치를 한 묶음으로 후방견인시켰을 때 초기에 나타나는 모든 힘 체계와 개개치아의 이동양상을 살펴보고 바람직하지 않은 치아이동을 감소시키기 위한 방안을 모색하고자 본 연구를 시행하였다. 먼저 유한요소법을 이용하여 상악 치아와 치근막의 해부학적 형태 및 생체적 특성을 컴퓨터로 재현시키고 모형화된 브라켓을 부착시킨 후, beam요소를 사용하여 5종의 retraction loop를 하나씩 부여한 다섯 가지의 탄선을 모형화하고, 브라켓과 탄선간에는 gap요소를 사용하여 모형화함으로써 전체 유한요소 모형을 완성하였다. loop의 형태, activation 의 양, gable bend와 torque의 조건에 따른 차이를 검토하기 위해, 각 조건을 변화시켜 loop를 activation시켰을 때 탄선이 발휘하는 힘과 모멘트, 치아이동의 변위를 3차원적으로 정량적 및 가시적으로 평가하고 비교, 분석한 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 1. tear-drop loop archwire사용시 각 치아의 근원심이동 및 설측이동이 발치공간 폐쇄에 도움이 되었으나, 바람직하지 못한 상하이동과 각 방향으로의 회전이동이 부가적으로 나타났다. 2.다섯 가지의 retraction archwire중 T-loop archwire에서 공간폐쇄에 도움이 되는 치아이동이 가장 작게 나타났으며, 각 방향으로의 회전이동 역시 가장 작게 나타났다. 3. tear-drop loop archwire에서 activation양을 증가시킴에 따라 공간폐쇄에 도움이 되는 치아이동이 점차 증가했으나, 바람직하지 못한 상하이동과 각 방향으로의 회전이동이 함께 증가했다. 4. tear-drop loop archwire에서 loop의 전후방에 gable bend부여시 전치에서 근원심방향의 치체이동에 도움이 되었으나, 모든 치아에서 상하이동과 각 방향으로의 회전이동이 함께 증가했다. 5. tear-drop loop aichwire의 절치부에 치근 설측 torque 부여시 이들 치아의 순설경사를 개선시키는 효과를 얻었으나, 그 반작용으로 견치 치관의 설측회전이 크게 증가했으며, 전치의 상하이동과 모든 치아에서 각 방향으로의 회전이동이 증가했다.

Body Plethysmograph를 이용한 Airway Resistance Curve의 임상적 의의 (Clinical Significance of Airway Resistance Curve by the Body Plethysmograph)

  • 연구배경: 기도저항은 body plethysmograph를 이용하여 flow/alveolar pressure의 관계를 측정함으로써 얻어질 수 있는데, 기도저항이 정상인 경우 oscillooscope 상에서 얻어지는 resistance curve가 거의 linear 하나 증가된 경우에는 그 모양이 기울어지거나 loop을 형성하는 경우가 많아 이러한 curve를 분석하여 환자의 임상평가에 도움이 되는 결과를 얻고자 하였다. 방법: 기도저항이 증가되어 있는 환자를 대상으로 body plethysmograph에서 quiet breathing시에 얻어진 resistance curve의 형태를 분석하여 폐기능을 비교하였다. 결과: 1) Resistance curve는 type 1: linear, type 2: ovoid, type 3: sigmoid, type 4: scoop, type 5: paisley의 5가지 형태로 구분할 수 있었으며, 1예를 제외한 type 3과 type 4 및 5는 loop을 형성하였다. 2) Curve의 형태가 특정 질환에 특징적이지는 않았으나 급성질환은 주로 type 1, 및 2, 만성기류폐쇄는 주로 type 3, 4 및 5에 속하였으며, 기관지 천식이나 오래된 폐결핵은 그 정도에 따라 type 1 에서 5까지의 형태를 모두 보였다. 3) Type 1에서 type 5로 갈 수록, loop을 형성 할 수록 기도폐쇄가 심하고 기도저항이 증가되며 잔기량이 커지는 경향을 보였다. 결론: 기도저항을 측정할 경우 기도저항의 측정치 뿐 아니라 resistance curve를 분석하여 기도폐쇄와 air trapping의 정도를 판단하는데 도움을 얻을수 있으며, resistance curve의 모양이 특정 질환에 특징적이지는 않았지만 호기시 loop이 형성되는 경우 심한 기도폐쇄를 시사하였다.

  • Space Vector control of linear induction motor without speed sensor is one of the most up-to-date researching subjects to the engineers in the fields of power electronics and control theory. A conveyance SLIM (Single-sided Linear Induction Motor) has required a stable speed and a soft start/stop when the goods convey. So, the close loop control method to use a speed sensor have been adopted and as the speed sensor, a linear encorder has been used. But when the speed sensor used, the application boundary is limited and the confidence of system is diminished because it is sensitive to external environment variations and its cost is very expensive. So, to solve these problems, this paper deals with speed control of the conveyance SLIM using space vector without speed sensorless.
