The Relationship between Emotional intelligence and Communication skill, Clinical competence & Clinical practice stress in Nursing Students (간호대학생의 감성지능과 의사소통능력, 임상수행능력, 임상실습스트레스와의 관계)

  • This study was done to identify the relationship between emotional intelligence and communication skill, clinical competence & clinical practice stress of nursing students. Subjects were 184 associate nursing students(2nd grade) in Korea. The data were collected using self -report questionnaire from jan 1 to february 29, 2012. Data were analyzed by frequencies, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, multiple regression using SPSS Win 18.0. Emotional intelligence were significantly correlation with communication skill, clinical competence and stress of clinical practice in nursing students. And the higher emotional intelligence was showed the higher communication skill, clinical competence and the lower stress of clinical practice. Therefore, To increase communication skill, clinical competence and to decrease stress of clinical practice of nursing students, it is necessary to develop and test the program for improving emotional intelligence of nursing students.

The Effect of Ego-resilience, Stress Coping Styles, Teaching, Effectiveness, and Family Support on Satisfaction of Clinical Practice in Nursing Students by AMOS Structural Equation Model (간호대학생의 자아탄력성, 스트레스 대처방식, 교수효율성, 가족지지가 임상실습만족도에 미치는 효과: 구조방정식 모형구축)

  • Purpose: This study aimedto develop a structural equation model on the relationship among ego-resilience, and teaching effectiveness on clinical education, stress coping style, perceived family support, and satisfaction of clinical practice in nursing students in order to increase the satisfaction of clinical practice. Methods: The subjects were 399 undergraduate nursing students enrolled in 7 universities and participating in 10 clinical practice setting areas in 5 cities in South Korea. The research was conducted from December 5th, 2009 to February 20th, 2010. The structural equation model was used to perform the analysis with the statistics program of SPSS win 17.0 and AMOS 5.0. Results: Teaching effectiveness and family support showed a direct effect on satisfaction of clinical practice, while ego-resilience and stress coping styles showed an indirect effect. The biggest total effect on satisfaction of clinical practice was teaching effectiveness followed by family support, ego-resilience, and stress coping styles respectively, which accounted for 50.9%. Conclusion: Based on outcomes of this study, the proposed model allows better understanding of the satisfaction of clinical practice. This result implies that strategies or intervention programs enhancing extrinsic protection factors, motivation factors, and intrinsic protection factors should be considered. In addition, a structural support system for increasing the satisfaction level of clinical practice in nursing students should also be considered.

Empathy and Clinical Practice Stress in Nursing Student (간호대학생의 공감능력과 임상실습 스트레스)

  • This study was conducted to identify the level of empathy and clinical practice stress and the relationship between empathy and clinical practice stress in nursing students. Data were collected from 252 nursing students between 1st September and 31st December 2013. 249 questionnaires were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation coefficient. The mean scores of empathy level in the subcategories for perspective taking 3.57, fantasy 3.59, empathic concern 3.72 and personal distress 3.15 were above median and the mean score for clinical practice stress 3.03 was above median. Clinical practice stress positively correlated with personal distress on empathy. These findings indicate that there is a need to manage personal distress on empathy for nursing students with high level of personal distress to lessen stress in clinical practice of nursing students.

  • The purpose of this study is to grasp the influence of incivility and stress experienced by Dental Hygiene (Department) students in clinical practice upon professional identity. The research subjects are totally 297 people. As a result of the analysis, The professional identity had a significant difference in a reason for application, in the academic department satisfaction, and in the satisfaction with the training institution among general characteristics. It was indicated that the incivility and the clinical-practice stress have a positive correlation and that the clinical-practice stress and the professional identity have a negative correlation. The influential element upon professional identity was a conflict with a patient among sub-factors of the academic department satisfaction and the clinical-practice stress. The explanation power accounted for 17.9%. Accordingly, to improve the professional identity, there is a need to develop and apply a program of reducing and coping with the clinical-practice stress. And a specific plan is necessary for increasing the satisfaction with the academic department.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of Communication cpmpetence of nursing students Clinical practice stress. Data were collected among 188 nursing students in G city, from Sep 5 to 20, 2021. The collected data was analyzed a using t-test, One way ANOVA, Pearson's correation coeffcient and Stepwise multiple regression using SPSS 20.0 WIN program. The average score for Communication cpmpetence was 3.54±0.41 and Clinical practice stress was 3.32±0.85. Clinical practice stress showed Models including the variables, Communication cpmpetence, Major satisfaction, Gender explained 30.4% of the variance in the Clinical practice stress. Based on the outcome of this study, steps should be taken to design intervention program that emphasize a improve Clinical practice stress for nursing students.

The relationship between environmental factors causing stress in clinical practice institutions and the stress level of dental hygiene students (치위생과 학생들의 임상실습기관의 환경요인 스트레스와 스트레스 량의 관련성)

  • Purpose : This study was conducted to provide basic data on the relationship between environmental factors causing stress in clinical practice institutions and stress levels of dental hygiene students. Methods : The research subjects totaled 207 and it was analyzed with structured questionnaires. The collected data were analyzed using an IBM SPSS ver. 20.0. Results : The environmental factors causing stress according to the status of clinical practice institutions was statistically and significantly different in the case of Busan practice areas (p<0.01), dental university hospitals (p<0.001), attendance times prior to 8am (p<0.001), quitting times that surpassed 8pm (p<0.01), and the number of dentists exceeding 4 (p<0.01). It was found to affect the stress level of students when individuals had to stand for a long period of time(p<0.001, ${\beta}=0.254$) and with the use of unfamiliar tools and equipment(p<0.05, ${\beta}=0.178$). Conclusions : As a result of the research conducted, it should be concluded that dental clinics should provide rest areas for individuals to focus on clinical practice. In addition, it is necessary to develop a systematic program that enables students to communicate with students at any time during the training period.

  • Purpose: This study was to identify the perceptions of nursing student on the clinical practice environment and related variables. Methods: The subjects of this study were 180 nursing students from a college participated in clinical practice at four regional hospitals. Data was collected with the questionnaire tool for the perceptions of clinical practice environment. Results: The students highly satisfied in the major had significantly high perception in innovation, personalization, student involvement, and clinical practice satisfaction. The students with a low level of stress and a clearly named guidance nurse were significantly high in the perceptions of task orientation, innovation, personalization, student involvement, and practice satisfaction. Clinical practice environment variables such as task orientation, innovation, individualization, personalization, student involvement, and practice satisfaction were significantly correlated with each other. In student characteristics, the main variables directly influencing the perceptions of clinical practice environment were religion, the level of stress, and the method of guidance. Conclusion: Understanding the students' perspective would be valuable for promoting a positive clinical practice environment. Developing a cooperative system between the college and educational hospitals is necessary for effective clinical practice education.

Stress Experience of Nursing Students to Clinical Practice : Q-methodological Approach (간호학생의 임상실습 스트레스 경험유형 : Q방법론적 접근)

  • This study was designed to determine the schemata and their characteristics of stress experience the subjectivity of stress experience(structure of subjectivity) would be a basic step for the effective clinical education through the stress management for characteristics of these types. Q-methodological method was used for that purpose. The research method statements were collected prior to the study through indepth interviews. For the study, 31 Q-statements were selected. There were 34 nursing students as subjects for the research. The 34 nursing students sorted the 31 statements using the principal of forced normal distribution. The principle of forced normal distribution, which has 9 scales to measure the individual opinions, was called. Q-factor analysis by using PC QUANL program supply the material. According to the outcomes of this study, there were 3 types of special opinion about the stress experience of clinical practice. The first type is called 'Influence of practical atmosphere type'. Members of this type experienced stress by an inadequate orientation and undesirable role model of nursing. The second type is called 'conflict of nursing role type'. Members of this type experienced stress by an inadequate orientation and undesirable role model of nursing. The third type is called 'Lack of confidence type'. Members of this type experienced stress because of a lack of confidence for their own nursing knowledge and skill. As a result, we now need further study to identify individual psychological aspects of stress for clinical practice. The findings will guide the development in effective approaches for clinical education. Finally, the result of the study will provide us the need for developing systematic and integrated practice education program for students and active involvement of clinical instructor.

The Effects of Emerging Infectious Disease Knowledge and Clinical Practice Stress on Nursing Students' Coping with Stress (신종감염병지식과 임상실습스트레스가 간호대학생의 스트레스대처방식에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to inquire into the effect on the coping with stress by the knowledge of Emerging infectious disease, clinical practice stress. A research was held to the nursing students living in Seoul and Chungbuk from September 10 to October 10, 2022, 259copies of the data were used for the final analysis, Pearson's correlation coefficient and Multiple linear regressions was used. As a result of the study, there was a positive correlation between clinical practice stress due to burden of work, practice education environment stress, and active coping with stress. Clinical practice stress due to interpersonal conflicts, conflicts with patients, burden of work, and undesirable role models was positively correlated with passive coping with stress. Satisfaction of clinical practice, practical educational environment stress and gender accounted for 15.0% of the total variance in the active stress coping, and burden of work accounted for 7% of the total variance in the passive stress coping. Consequently, this study could be suggested as a basis for counseling and developing practical education program for active coping with stress.

Influencing Factors Stress in nursing students before Clinical Practice (간호대학생의 임상실습 전 스트레스에 미치는 영향 요인)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the factors affecting stress before clinical practice among nursing students. The subjects of the study were surveyed on third-grade students who were about to undergo their first clinical practice. The data collection period was from December 22, 2023 to January 10, 2024, with a total of 191 nursing students. The instruments used for this study were Perceived stress scale(Pss), Self-leadership, and Global Interpersonal Communication Competency(GICC) scale. The data were analyzed by t-tests, ANOVA, Scheffé test, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple regression using SPSS/WIN 21.0. The results of the study showed a negative correlation with self-leadership(r=-.29, p=<.001) and interpersonal communication competence(r=-.40, p=<.001). In the stepwise multiple regression analysis, it was found that the stress levels of nursing students before clinical practice were influenced by factors such as gender, satisfaction with the department, and interpersonal communication competence. These variables explained 33.7% of the variance in pre-clinical stress. Based on the findings of this study, it is recommended to develop educational interventions that can help reduce stress before clinical practice among nursing students.
