  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to report the clinical effectiveness of Korean medicine treatment on postmenopausal woman with overactive bladder. Methods: The patient with overactive bladder was treated with Korean medicine treatment including herbal medicine, acupuncture and moxibustion during 5 days of hospitalization. The effect of treatment on overactive bladder was evaluated through the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) and questionnaires. Results: After the treatment, the overactive bladder symptoms of urinary frequency, urinary urgency and nocturia were improved. This was proven through subjective symptoms complained of by patients and objective measures such as questionnaires. Conclusions: This case report proved that the Korean medicine treatment may be effective for improving overactive bladder. However, further clinical studies with large number of subjects are needed to prove the effectiveness of Korean medicine treatment for overactive bladder.

  • Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness and safety of combining psychostimulants and nonstimulants for patients under treatment for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Methods: The study included 96 patients aged 6-12 years who were diagnosed with ADHD, among whom 34 received combination pharmacotherapy, 32 received methylphenidate monotherapy, and 30 received atomoxetine monotherapy. Statistical analysis was conducted to compare treatment and adverse effects among groups and to analyze changes before and after combination pharmacotherapy. The difference between combination pharmacotherapy and monotherapy was investigated. Logistic regression analysis was used to identify the predictors of combination pharmacotherapy. Results: No significant differences were observed between the groups in terms of age or pretreatment scores. The most common adverse effect experienced by 32% of patients in the combination pharmacotherapy group was decreased appetite. Clinical global impression-severity score decreased significantly after combination pharmacotherapy. All three groups showed significant clinical global impression-severity score improvements over time, with no significant differences among them. The predictive factors for combination pharmacotherapy included the Child Behavior Checklist total score internalizing subscale. Conclusion: Combination pharmacotherapy with methylphenidate and atomoxetine is a relatively effective and safe option for patients with ADHD who do not respond to monotherapy.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop the computerized nursing diagnoses system for clinical application and activation of nursing diagnoses based on validity verification. In addition, our research team also performed system tests in clinical situations, to identify ways to improve the program and make it more practical. Nursing Diagnoses System will increase nurses' knowledge and experience of the application of nursing diagnoses in clinical situations and development of nursing interventions by nurses as well as the effectiveness of hospital computerized systems. We expect this system can contribute to an improvement in the quality of nursing care. Also we will continuously evaluate and revise the system related to the utilization of the program.

  • Ribostamycin sulfate is a new aminoglycoside antibiotic which is effective against organisms resistant to other conventional antibiotics, Particularly E. coli, and Staphylococcus group. Our clinical studies were performed on 20 patients who were admitted to Thoracic Surgical Dept of National Medical Center from May '77 to September '77, and the following results were obtained; 1. Among 20 patients, 13 were excellently improved and 4 responded moderataly, but 3 patients were not improved. So, 85% of the patients were controlled with Ribostamycin sulfate administration. 2. The rate of effectiveness of Ribostamycin sulfate was 85.7% against E. coli, 92.3% against Staphylococcus, and 75% against klebsiella, revealing 83.3% in average. 3. No side effects were observed. 4. From our clinical studies, Ribostamycin sulfate is expected to possess in high therapeutic value in surgical infectins caused by both gram positive and negative microorganisms.

  • The author has tested the clinical efficacy and safety of an anti-inflammatory drug in patients with inflammation of the otnrhinolaryngology. Deoxyribonuclease prepared from bovine pancreas destroyed fibers and reduced the viscosity of the exudates. Bromelain is a group of proteolytic enzymes which are known to have an effect on inflammation, swelling, and pain in inflammatory disorders. The mucolytic and anti-inflammatory properties of deoxyribonuclease associated with bromelain in inflammation of otorhinolaryngology were assessed in 67 patients. A standard dose of 3 tablets of deoxyribonuclease bromelain tablet was given for not less than 7 days. In all tile groups of patients considered, the drug showed a considerable therapeutic effectiveness. At the end of 7-28 days treatment, more than $89.6\%$ of treatment was improved. These findings suggest that it could be permitted to use deoxyribonuclease-bromelain tablet in patients with inflammation of the otorhinolaryngology.

  • Objective: This paper is to investigate the current evidence and clinical effectiveness of mountain ginseng pharmacopuncture (MGP) in cancer treatment. Methods: Along with hand searches, relevant literatures were searched from Korean medical database until November 2015 without language restriction and clinical researches were selected for this review. Results: Nine articles were searched. The MGP was generally prepared in the concentration of ten percent. Also, the MGP has been used by intravenous injection much more than acupoint injection. The clinical effects were the suppression of the cancer cell growth, the improvement the quality of life, the reduction of the side effect by chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Conclusion: This analysis suggests that the MGP can be used as a single therapy or a supportive therapy with conventional therapies, which are chemotherapy or radiotherapy.

  • Gene therapy is becoming a very promising and feasible medical intervention as the understanding of human diseases extends to their molecular levels. Since the first US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved human gene therapy protocol was approved in 1990, over 300 human clinical trial protocols had been approved worldwide so far. Even though some of the domestic gene therapy clinical trials also proved promising and more are awaiting, it should be emphasized that many safety aspects as well as effectiveness aspects should be considered during the development process. Moreover, there seems to be less restricted guidelines from the National Control Authority (NCA) in initiating human clinical trials. This article is intended to suggest some basis and points to consider in the development and evaluation of gene therapy products including antisense oligonucleotides pharmaceuticals.

  • Insomnia is one of the most common sleep disorders experienced by modern people, and treatment is often not adequate due to various limitations. Digital therapeutics for insomnia are expected to play a revolutionary role in supplementing and satisfying unmet needs in real-world clinical treatment. Digital therapeutics for insomnia were developed based on cognitive-behavioral therapy for insomnia, which is the first standard treatment for insomnia. The effectiveness of digital therapeutics for insomnia developed by several companies has been proven through well-designed clinical research. Various approaches have been used for practical application of digital therapeutics for insomnia. Thus far, meaningful results have been drawn, but there are areas that need to be improved upon based on real-world evidence. Sleep researchers need to validate the safe and effective application of digital therapeutics for the treatment of insomnia.
