Objectives: Recently, subjective career success has been used as a criterion for evaluating career success. The purpose of this study was to develop and evaluate a simplified subjective career success inventory for dental hygienists. Methods: Subfactors of the subjective career success inventory consisted of career satisfaction, employability, and job satisfaction. The validity and reliability of the existing tools were evaluated through the basic items composition, content validity index (CVI), preliminary survey, and main survey process according to dental hygienists. The preliminary survey was composed of 35 questions by verifying the content validity twice from the existing 63 questions, and the main survey was conducted with a total of 12 questions. Samples were conveniently extracted from dental hygienists with a clinical career of ≥3 years and surveyed online from March 12, 2020 to June 30, 2020. Data of 320 people were collected, of which 284 were finally analyzed. The validity and reliability were analyzed using SPSS 18.0 and AMOS 18.0 (p<0.05). Results: The subjective career success was a shortened inventory composed of nine questions, and the overall reliability was Cronbach's α=0.841. Using exploratory factor analysis, three factors were extracted. As a result of the confirmatory factor analysis, each measurement variable significantly explained the latent factor, and the fit of the model was appropriate. The fit of the model was appropriate for the structural equation model. Among the sub-factors of subjective career success, career satisfaction and job satisfaction had a significant effect on intention to stay (p<0.05). Conclusions: The simplified subjective career success inventory developed for dental hygienists was found was found to be a useful tool in terms of reliability and validity.
Objectives: The purpose of the study is to investigate the relationship between professional vocation and ethical inclination in clinical dental hygienists. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was filled out by 221 clinical dental hygienist in Busan and Kyeongnam from April 1 to 30, 2014. The questionnaire consisted of structured questions including demographic characteristics(9 questions), vocational calling(9 questions), deontology(12 questions), asceticism(13 questions), and utilitarianism(8 questions). Questionnaire was carried out by Likert scale. Data were analyzed using the statistical package SPSS Window 19.0 for frequency, mean and standard deviation analysis, t-test, one-way ANOVA and linear regression. Results: There was a significantly positive correlation between professional vocation and ethical inclination. The deontology was associated with education, dental service career, duty hours, and number of clients in multivariate analysis after adjusting for socio-demographic characteristics and professional vocation. Asceticism was also correlated with education, and utilitarianism was closely associated with vocational calling, work place, number of clients, and monthly income. Conclusions: It is necessary to develop the curricula including vocational calling and ethical inclination in the dental hygiene education. The dental hygienists should learn the ethical and vocational calling as a professional career.
Objectives: This study aims to examine the factors that influence the organizational citizenship behavior of clinical dental hygienists to use them as basic data for improving effectiveness and efficiency of dental clinics and hospitals. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was answered by 250 clinical dental hygienists in Seoul, Gyeonggi, Chungcheong, Jeolla and Gyeongsang province areas who were chosen using convenient sampling method from May 1st to June 30th of 2017. The data was analyzed using IBM SPSS/WIN 22.0 factor analysis on clinical dental hygienists' organization citizenship behavior, organizational commitment, empowerment, self-leadership and job satisfaction. T-test and one-way ANOVA were performed for subjects' general characteristics and organizational citizenship behavior, organizational commitment, empowerment, self-leadership and job satisfaction depending on their job characteristics. The mean comparison was drawn using the Scheffe test. Pearson's correlation and multiple regression analysis were performed to examine the relation of clinical dental hygienists' organizational citizenship behavior, organizational commitment, empowerment, self-leadership and job satisfaction Also, the significance level was set at 0.05. Results: Clinical dental hygienists' organizational citizenship behavior was 3.84 points with organizational commitment of 3.27, empowerment of 3.41, self-leadership 3.45 and job satisfaction of 3.57. Factors that influence clinical dental hygienists' organizational citizenship behavior appeared in the order of organizational commitment, job satisfaction, self-leadership, empowerment and job intensity, and the model's explanation power was 45.6%. Conclusions: Clinical dental hygienists' organizational citizenship behavior was correlated to career, organizational commitment, empowerment, self-leadership and job satisfaction, where organizational commitment had the biggest influence. Therefore, clinical dental hygienists organizational citizenship behavior needs further studies and investigtae more ways to promote factors that influence organizational citizenship behavior.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the resilience and organizational commitment of dental hygienists for the improvement of organizational performance. Methods : A self-reported questionnaire was filled out by 323 dental hygienists from May 2 to June 5, 2014. The collected data were analyzed by a statistical package SPSS WIN 12.0. Results : The dental hygienists had the highest score in relationship(4.09), and had the lowest score in communicative competence(3.29). In organizational commitment, they had the highest score in affective commitment(3.20). There were statistically significant differences in that regard according to age(p<0.001), marital status(p<0.05) and career(p<0.001). The organizational commitment varied significantly with age(p<0.05) and career(p<0.01), and normative commitment significantly varied with the number of work days(p<0.05) and career(p<0.05). There was a significant correlation between the resilience and organizational commitment of the dental hygienists(p<0.001). Conclusions : The organizational commitment of the dental hygienists was better when they had a better resilience, and that resilience made a contribution to the improvement of organizational commitment in the clinical dental hygienists.
Background: The present study aimed to provide basic data to establish a foundation for efficient operation of the organization by identifying the effects of factors related to moral sensitivity and psychological well-being on job engagement of clinical dental hygienists. Methods: This cross-sectional survey consisted of self-administration questionnaires. After the approval by the Institutional Review Board, a survey was conducted from September 2019 to November 2019, targeting dental hygienists with clinical experience of 1 year or more. A total of 189 questionnaires were analyzed using SPSS 18.0 for Windows. The data were analyzed using average standard deviation, t-test, one-way analysis of variance, Scheffe test, Pearson's correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. Results: According to job-related characteristics, higher job engagement was associated with more amount of clinical experience, less turnover intention, higher positions, and occasional job fatigue. Job engagement was improved by increasing moral sensitivity and psychological well-being of clinical dental hygienists. The factors affecting job engagement revealed that along with clinical career, the sub-areas of job engagement, namely turnover intention, moral sensitivity, and psychological well-being had statistically significant influence on job engagement and the explanatory power of the model was approximately 44.8%. Conclusion: Joy of working as a clinical dental hygienist, clinical career, turnover intention, moral sensitivity, and psychological well-being were confirmed as influencing factors that affected job engagement of clinical dental hygienists. It is necessary to establish an effective plan to improve job engagement by increasing moral sensitivity and psychological well-being of clinical dental hygienists.
Objectives: This study aims to identify dentists' opinions about the return to work of the dental hygienists with career interrupted. Convenience sampling was made of 22 dentists with the clinical experience (about 0.25%) of the 4,944 members of Gyeonggi-do Dental Association. Data were collected through an electronic survey using e-mails and telephone interviews and analyzed using the constant comparison method. Methods: Open coding was assigned to the initial data from the survey in an explicit language, and focusing on the types of their employment, working conditions, etc. Summarization and conceptualization were made of the second data in an implicit language. Results: Most of the dentists were found to have positive attitudes toward the return to work of career interrupted dental hygienists and hope to adjust their wages based on their job performance or after their probational period expires. Most of the dentists were found to have positive attitudes towards the hygienists' flexible working although their concerns about work efficiency and hospital atmosphere. This study is a qualitative study that describes dentists' opinions and presents the need for the career interrupted dental hygienists to return to work. Conclusions: The study proposed that the educational institutions should take into account the hygienists' opinions when implementing the programs for promoting their return to work and their evaluative studies.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate career competency, tasks, and job satisfaction of public servants, public institutions, and researchers. Methods: The survey was conducted about career competency, job satisfaction, and satisfaction on work life. Next, they interviewed on the characteristics of each job by two or three dimensions. The following conclusions were obtained from July to August 2017. Results: Career competencies were GPA with 3.87, 818 points of TOEIC score, and ITQ certification. Public servants required the information on literacy skills for employment and job performance, while civil servants need more than one year of clinical experience in the dental hospital. The non-commissioned officer needed a written test and fitness training. The health insurance review and assessment center required more than one year of experience from general hospital or medical institutions. Researchers required a research career, language skill, and professors required research and teaching experiences with clinical experience more than three years. The main job tasks were as follows; for public servants, they were official document processing and community projects. For the civilian workers and military/noncommissioned officers, they were medical assistant and administrative works. The employees of the health insurance review and assessment service are examining the medical expenses and the medical examination, the researchers are experimenting, researching and writing articles, and the teaching staff are lecturing and conducting individual research. Conclusions: The results of job satisfaction survey showed that occupational satisfaction was the highest in civil servants, researchers, and teaching professions. Job security was the highest in health workers and health inspectors' evaluation centers, and time vacancy was the highest in civilian workers and military/noncommissioned officers. For the purpose of strengthening Dental Hygiene students' confidence and motivation in the Dental Hygiene Department and helping construct proper professionalism, survey on Dental Hygiene students' consciousness of attitude to and satisfaction of the course, career plan and occupation mind set was carried out. 530 three year students in 8 Dental Hygiene academies in Seoul and Kyonggi province were questioned. The results of the survery are as follows:. 1. Dental Hygiene students' motives consisted primarily of employment and a desire for professionalism 25% of them entered the course after one failure in the entrance examination and 17% had family members engaging in the dentistry field 84%, the largest portion, were from an academic high school. 24% had some knowledge of Dental Hygiene, which they had acquired from seniors, friends, and teachers. 2. Patient care and treatment assistance related matters were not considered important in the course. The weak points of the course turned out to be education in computers and foreign languages, but the weakest was the ability of patient care during clinical training. 53% had experiences had thought of changing their major while in the course because it didn't match their aptitude and interest. 3. As for a career after graduation, 49% worried about it Most students wanted to work at a dental hospital or general hospital, The most favored duty was coordination or reception or oral disease preventive work. They wanted to work untill they had a stable living. 68% answered they would get a job at an oral clinic and 70% said they would continue studying for self-realization. 4. Satisfaction with the major was high in students whose aptitude and interest matched the course, who had background knowledge of the major, and who. didn't think of changing the major but would continue studying resulting in statistically slight difference(p<0.001). As to satisfaction with the faculties, it was high in the students whose aptitude and interest matched the major and who didn't think about a career after graduation showing a slight difference(p<05, p<0l). As for satisfaction with clinical training, students whose aptitude and interest matched the major and who didn't consider changing the major answered positively showing a statistically slight difference(p<.001, p<.01). As to satisfaction with the course, it was high in the students who entered with aptitude and interest, who had preliminary knowledge, who didn't consider changing the major, and who didn't think about a career after graduation showing a statistically slight difference(p<.001, p<.05). 5. Occupation mind-set was positive for students who entered with interest and aptitude, who had preliminary knowledge, and who had not considered changing the major showing a statistically slight difference(P<.001). The higher the satisfaction with the major, faculty and clinical training was, the more positive the occupation mind-set was(p<.001).
Purpose. This study was purposed to seek for a way to enhance the self-efficacy of students in dental hygiene department at deciding their careers by analyzing the relationship between the self-efficacy and the major satisfaction. Methods. The investigator conducted a survey targeting 253 students attending on dental hygiene departments in two 3-year-graduate colleges and 1 university located in Busan from May 1st to May 30th, 2013. The used research instruments were the major satisfaction questionnaire and the Career Decision-Making Self-Efficacy Scale Short Form(CDMSES-SF). The survey was conducted in self-administered questionnaire. The data was analyzed with SPSS (ver 12.0) and also conducted t-test, ANOVA and multi-regression analysis. Results. It was found that self-efficacy level of students in dental hygiene department was $3.22{\pm}0.38$ point, and their major satisfaction level was $3.27{\pm}0.47$ point. The factors enhancing the self-efficacy of students in dental hygiene department at deciding their careers were identified as the curriculum satisfaction, the relationship satisfaction, and the recognition satisfaction. It was identified that more these elements were increased, the higher the self-efficacy level was enhanced. Conclusions. In order to enhance the self-efficacy of students in dental hygiene department at deciding their careers, it is considered that the curriculum should be organized carefully under reasonable plan, and there should be more active communication between professors and students as well as students each other. Besides there needs some educational programs to inspire the pride and sense of duty for the dental hygiene department.
Purpose. This research is implemented to identify the status of educations about the pricing standard, status of the cognition of the pricing standard, and the solutions to the questions on the pricing standard of the oral health professionals. it will provide the easier accessibility to the annual changes in Dental Health Insurance Standards to the oral health professionals. Methods. The research subjects are the total 204 oral health professionals in limited area, and it was analyzed with structured questionnaires. The collected data is analyzed by IBM SPSS ver. 19.0, a statistical program (IBM Co., Armonk, NY, USA) for the frequency and percentage, and ANOVA. The result is as following Results. The awareness of dental health insurance standard was statistically significant differences by age (p<0.01), career (p<0.001), the prime task (p<0.01), and dental insurance claimants (p<0.05). The awareness of the standard was statistically significant differences by educational training within last 6 months (p<0.05), the cognition of the standard (p<0.001), and solutions for the questions (p<0.05). Conclusions. As the results of the research, it is necessary to develop the educational program under condition of age, career, main task, and better understanding in Dental Health Insurance Standard for oral health professional.
