Novel Techniques for Real Time Computing Critical Clearing Time SIME-B and CCS-B

  • Real time transient stability assessment mainly depends on real-time prediction. Unfortunately, conventional techniques based on offline analysis are too slow and unreliable in complex power systems. Hence, fast and reliable stability prediction methods and simple stability criterions must be developed for real time purposes. In this paper, two new methods for real time determining critical clearing time based on clustering identification are proposed. This article is covering three main sections: (i) clustering generators and recognizing critical group; (ii) replacing the multi-machine system by a two-machine dynamic equivalent and eventually, to a one-machine-infinite-bus system; (iii) presenting a new method to predict post-fault trajectory and two simple algorithms for calculating critical clearing time, respectively established upon two different transient stability criterions. The performance is expected to figure out critical clearing time within 100ms-150ms and with an acceptable accuracy.

  • In order to overcome the problems of simulation methods, the power system transient stability assessment method using critical fault clearing time functions has been developed. Using the above method, this paper has developed the new method which can assess accurately and efficiently the effects of control and protection systems on transient stability which is the most important characteristic to assess in power systems. At first, critical fault clearing time functions CCT(W:load) are defined by taking notice of the fact that transient stability is mainly controlled by fault clearing time and load. Next, the method to be enable to assess accurately and efficiently the effects of control and protection systems on transient stability has been newly developed by using the above functions. Finally, it has been applied to the effect assessment in the occurrence of a three-phase fault in a model power system. Results of application have been clarified its effectiveness.

A Study on New Working System of Machanical Land Clearing and Development of Rertile Soil (기계 개간의 새로운 작업 체계와 숙지화 촉진에 관한 연구)

  • Instead of fertilizing the lands they moved to find other fertile lands and lived a feudal life agriculture and various machincs played a main role in the land reclamation. The best method of land clearing, the time and capacity in the operation and the effect of growing crops should systematically analized prior to the time of 3rd Five-year Economic Development(1972-1976) in order to cultivate 210,000ha of wasteland or the modernization of our country. The present study was investigated to find out a new working-system of mechanical land clearing and development of fertile soil. The results are as follows: 1) The first stage of productive power increases when weeds were mixed soil in the land clearing work in order to supply organic materials and to make soil swollen instead of burning or just removing. 2) The equipments such as bulldozers, harrows, power tillers and so on should be prepared in order to do a systematic work in the land clearing. 3) The work of pulling-up roots is dependent upon the forms of roots spreading under the ground. The work of the pulling-up of the straight roots was most difficult. But before the roots are pulling-up we do not know the forms of roots. 4) The cutting of soil from upside to under side land clearing method (II) Spent 6 hr 7 min 43 sec per 1 Danbo in doing land clearing and control method spent 4 hr 52 min 30 sec per 1 Danbo in doing land cearing. No significant difference could be found between II treatment type and I treatment type. 5) The volume of soil carried by bulldozer $270.38m^3$ per 1 Danbo in I type and in II type, $368.58m^3$ per 1 Danbo or about 36% increased in II type then in I type. But that is not a significant difference when considering the whole productive power of soil. 6) The land clearing of terrace by bulldozers cannot escape making the embankment slope of about $45^{\circ}$, and 25.3% should be decreased in the area. It is recommended to make use of the embankment slope by planting grass for cows. 7) The time of retary tilling increased 2.3 times or 1 hr 42 min 22 sec per 1 Danbo compared to the timesrequired in the harrowing. Because it mixed the Organic matter on ground and the harrowing of subsoil. 8) The havest of pasture growing on the land reclamation in natural slope is as follows. (a) The none fertilizers with reclaimed block of productivity decresed 1/10 than that of the farmland. Therefore the none fer tilizing in the cultivated pasture is unprofitable. (b) The havest of the manured IV treatment block was the best not only in the kinds of fertilizers but also in the kinds of pasture grass.

An Empirical Study on Trade Facilitation by the Korean Government's Single Window System

  • Purpose - Korea became a trillion-dollar trading country in 2011. With the exponential increase in Korea's trade volume over the past decades, trade-related administrative burdens per capita for Korea Customs became enormous, for which the government established the Single Window, a trade-facilitating system, in 2004 to enhance the efficiency of customs-clearing procedures for traders. This paper focuses on finding whether the Korean Single Window system affects the country's trade facilitation positively through an empirical methodology. Design/methodology - To find empirical evidence that Single Window affects trade facilitation for the customs-clearing procedure, this study assumes that a time-efficient environment enables the handling of the increase in trade volume, under which four independent variables related to import customs-clearing procedures and two dependent variables to import were adopted for empirical analysis. The import customs procedures are classified into four steps from port entry to declaration acceptance. To understand the relationship between variables, scattered plots and correlation coefficients were calculated. Eight hypotheses were set and underwent simple linear regression. The data for analysis were collected by Korea Customs, and were about the lead time of import, the volume of imports in million USD, and the number of import declarations reported to customs offices on a monthly basis from 2005 to 2013. Findings - Six of the eight hypotheses showed the statistically significant result that lead time in the import customs-clearing procedure positively affects the number of import declaration reports and import volume. Specifically, Hypothesis 1, Hypothesis 2, and Hypothesis 3 strongly support the assumption lead time in import customs declaration has an inverse relationship with the number of import declarations, which means that the shorter the import lead time, the more import declaration increases. Research Limitations/Implications - With limited data accessibility to the government's custom-sclearing procedures, only the import lead time for customs clearance were adopted as independent variables. This paper, however, successfully found that the Single Window system contributed to trade facilitation. Originality/value - This study found that the time-saving Single Window system of Korea Customs enables itself to manage an exponentially-increasing trade volume by creating a trade-facilitating environment for customs personnel and traders, which may be a unique implication found through quantitative methodology.

The present study was investigated to find out a new working-system of mechanical land clearing and development of fertile soil. The results are as follows: 1) The land reclamation in natural slope is much more encourageable in land clearing and farming when the slope is below ten grades than bench terrace. 2) Weeds were mixed with soil in the land clearing work in order to supply organic materials and to make soil swollen instead of burning of just removing. 3) The equipments such as bulldozers, harrows, power tillers and so on should be prepared in order to do a systematic work in the land clearing. 4) The work of pulling-up roots is dependent upon the forms of roots spreading under the ground. The work of the pulling-up the straight roots was most difficult. 5) The land clearing work of the wrinkled style blocks was easy in pulling up roots and in the time of first plowing. The harrowing work could also be simply done. 6) The amount of soil carried was $240m^3/10a$, 15.6% increased amount from the standard block, while the required time of clearing work was 2 hours 15 minutes 45 seconds/10a, the one third of time required for the standard block. 7) The time disc harrowing work increased 50%, or 15 minutes/10a compared to the harrowing work required in the cultivated soil. 8) The time of rotary tilling increased 2.4 times or 1 hour 47 minutes 43 seconds/10a compared to the time required in the cultivated soil. 9) The reclamed land should be fertilized according to the soil quality, especially added fertilizer should be more than 1,200kg/10a, limes 20kg/10a. In order to produce added fertilizer grass fields should be needed. 10) The experiment of pasture growing is now progressing and therefore the effect of land clearing and the degree of developed soil will be investigated before long.

High Speed Response Time of Nematic Liquid Crystal Mixtures for LCD Monitor and TV Applications

  • The most important parameter for TV application of LCD is a fast switching time for the display of moving image. To achieve faster switching time, the novel LC single materials with large dielectric anisotropies ($16{\sim}20$), high clearing temperatures ($195.5{\sim}237.4^{\circ}C$), broad nematic ranges (up to 169.9 $^{\circ}C$) and high birefringence ($0.254{\sim}0.2200$) were developed. KUR-series LC mixtures blended these single materials having significantly higher clearing temperatures and dielectric anisotropy values compared with conventional LC mixture. Especially, their clearing temperatures are $10{\sim}30^{\circ}C$ higher than their host mixture. These LC mixtures showing about lOms of high-speed switching time in Tv/Monitor of TFT LCD, is short enough to be addressed in a single time frame of 60Hz (16.7 ms). The threshold voltage $V_{th}$ was low enough to operate at a driving voltage of 5 V. The VHR values were found to be high enough for TFT-LCD in wide temperature range. Our novel LC mixtures are suitable materials for the inclusion in to LC mixtures for TV application of TN-LCD

A Fast Contingency Screening Algorithm for On-line Transient Security Assessment Based on Stability Index

  • This paper describes a new ultra-fast contingency screening algorithm for on-line TSA without time simulation. All machines are represented in a classical model and the stability index is defined as the ratio between acceleration power during a fault and deceleration power after clearing the fault. Critical clustering of machines is done based on the stability index, and the power-angle curve of the critical machines is drawn assuming that the angles of the critical machines increase uniformly, while those of the non-critical ones remain constant. Finally, the critical clearing time (CCT) is computed using the power-angle curve. The proposed algorithm is tested on the KEPCO system comprised of 900-bus and 230-machines. The CCT values computed with the screening algorithm are in good agreement with those computed using the detailed model and the SIME method. The computation time for screening about 270 contingencies is 17 seconds with 1.2 GHz PC.

  • Generation of electricity using wind power has received considerable attention worldwide in recent years. In order to investigate the impacts of the integration of wind farm into utilities' network, various studies have been investigated. One such impact is related to the Critical Clearing Time (CCT) of wind power generation system. This paper reports investigation into the factors that influence the transient behavior of the wind power generation system following network fault conditions. It is shown that CCT can be affected by various factors contributed by the network. Such factors include capacity of wind power, power factor, the length of the interfacing line, etc. This investigation is conducted on a simulated grid-connected wind farm using Digsilent Power Factory.

  • Generator for wind power can be either synchronous or asynchronous (induction) types. Induction and synchronous generators behave in a different way when subjected to severe faults. Induction generators does not have an angle stability limit and short circuit in the neighborhood of an Induction generator causes the demagnetization of the machine when the fault is cleared, the voltage raises slowly, while the grid contributes with reactive power to the generator and the magnetic flux recovers. On the other hand in the synchronous generators the recovery of the voltage is immediate, since the excitation of the rotor angle comes from an independent circuit. This paper shows the result of the transient state analysis in the network connected to wind generation system Several case studies have been conducted to determine the effect of the clearing time of a fault on the network stability. It has been found that the critical clearing time can be as low as 61ms in the case of induction generator compared to 370ms in the case of synchronous generator.

Comparative study of clearing methods for air-borne asbestos analysis (공기 중 석면표준시료를 이용한 전처리 방법 비교 연구)

  • Objectives: Acetone/triacetine method for clearing cellulose ester membrane (CEM) filter has been a popular method for air-borne asbestos analysis. However, as a weakness of this method, it is time consuming to analyses asbestos samples after sampling. Crystalclear method can be used to analyses asbestos samples promptly after sampling. Although a strength of crystal clear method exists, there was little valid studied for the method. This study was conducted to compare acetone/triacetine method with crystalclear one for analysing asbestos sample. Methods: Test samples made in three different concentration ranges(low, medium and high concentration) were analysed by phase contrast microscopy after acetone/triacetine and crystalclear method treatment respectively. Results: We did not find statistical difference in analysed results between two methods, which were conducted in three different concentrations ranges. Conclusions: We concluded that crystalclear method can be used as clearing method for air-borne asbestos analysis instead of acetone/triacetine method.
