Horsehair worms (Chordodes koreensis) develop as parasites in the bodies of grasshoppers, crickets, cockroaches, and some beetles. Chordodes koreensis is an accidental parasite of humans, livestock, or pets and poses no public health threat. The male of Chordodes koreensis in the later larval stage from canine vomitus was investigated by the scanning and transmission electron microscopy. In cross sections, the body wall is composed of four components namely epicuticle, cuticle, epidermis, and muscle layers. The parenchymal tissue fills the rest of the body and surrounds the visceral organs such as intestine, and ventral nerve cord but testes were not found. The epicuticle is a thin superficial layer whose surface shows rows of polygonal elevations called areoles. The cuticle has 17 layers of collagenous fibers spirally wound about the long axis of the worm. The section through the cuticle reveals the layers of large fibers cut obliquely lengthwise, alternating with layers of fibers sectioned obliquely crosswise. The layers of large fiber formed a double helix about longitudinal axis of the worm. The epidermis is a single layer. The muscles were interrupted by the nervous lamella in the only midventral portion. The medulla of muscle plate is composed of lightly stained cytoplasm, mitochondria, weakly developed endoplasmic reticulum, and glycogen granules. Between the medulla of a cell and the plasmalemma lies a broad cortical zone of myofilaments. The circular muscles are absent. The characteristic feature of the cytoplasm is that there was no content in peripheral mesenchyme, but was an abundance of large clear vacuoles which give the cytosome a foamy appearance. The nucleus of mesenchyme is not easily identified in our specimens.
The mycelial growth of Pleurotus ostreatus in compost is strongly stimulated by solid-state fermentation with thermophilic fungi which were isolated from oyster mushroom compost. The biochemical characteristics of these thermophilic fungi were investigated. Cellulase and ligninase activities were not detected by clear zone effect on CMC and lignin media. All of thermophilic fungi grew well with high mycelial density on xylan media and the growing rate of Sepedonium sp. S-2 observed very high. In results of MUF-test, extracellular enzyme activity of Sepedonium sp. S-2, and S-5 measured very high. On the compost after high temperature fermentation with Sepedonium sp. S-2 and S-5, the mycelial growing rate of Pleurotus ostreatus was increased about 50% and it also showed the inhibiting effect on mycelial growth of Trichoderma sp. SJG-51. Isolated thermophilic fungi, Sepedonium sp. S-2 and S-5 were expected as very useful organism for making oyster mushroom compost.
When alginate lyase gene (aly) from Pseudoalteromonas elyakovii was expressed in E. coli, most of the gene product was produced as aggregated insoluble particles known as inclusion bodies. In order to produce a soluble and active form of alginate lyase, E. coli cells fore cotransformed with the plasmids designed to permit coexpression of aly together with molecular chaperones such as DnaK/DnaJ/GrpE or GroEL/ES chaperones. The results revealed that the coexpression of aly together with DnaK/DnaJ/GrpE chaperone had a marked effect on the production of this protein as a soluble and active form, presumably through facilitating correct folding of alginate lyase protein. The optimal concentration of L-arabinose for the induction of DnaK/DnaJ/GrpE chaperone was found to be 0.05 mg/ml. When DnaK/DnaJ/GrpE chaperone was coexpressed, about 34% in the total alginate lyase was produced in the soluble fraction. By addition of 10% cetylpyridinium chloride, a clear zone around the colony coexpressing aly and DnaK/DnaJ/GrpE chaperone was formed, indicating that the alginate in the medium was hydrolyzed by active alginate lyase enzyme.

This study aims to examine at the garden characteristics of salt merchant in Yangzhou, China during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, I looked at the background of garden formation through the literature. In addition, analyzed the garden design method and components of salt merchants. The results were as follows; First, the Yangzhou area in the past has achieved cultural and economic development with the establishment of the ancient Grand Canal. Salt merchants accumulated wealth through trade, and created many gardens under the background of securing materials for create garden through trade, forming political forces through the cultivation of students, and inflow of foreign cultures. Second, salt merchants in Yangzhou asked garden experts to design and create the garden as a place for exchange and relaxation. Also, through the production of landscape changes using Gasan(假山) and a long corridor(長廊), clear classification of spaces using architectural elements, and the placement of buildings in scenic areas adjacent to the water, the gardens with practical and aesthetic functions were owned. Third, the gardens of Yangzhou Salt Merchants have a building-oriented commercial space on the front, and a garden-centered design characteristic on the back. The garden of the commercial zone was built in a simple form using pots, oddly shaped stone, bamboo and fence patterns in the remained space, focusing on the front of the building. The garden at the back formed a curved waterway connected to the canal is refracted across the garden. The garden also features piled stones(疊石), stone bridges and ship-shaped stone building(石舫). In addition, the design reflected the introduction of trees that take into account the climate and color contrast of Yangzhou province, pavement of various materials and patterns.
In this study, one GRAS strain was screened from doenjang, a traditional Korean fermented food, as a microorganism producing amylase due to the formation of a clear zone on the medium including soluble starch. From the analysis of the gene sequence of 16S ribosomal RNA, the strain was identified as Bacillus subtilis and was therefore named Bacillus subtilis CBD2. When the nutrient broth medium was prepared with 3% NaCl, 5% glucose, and the initial medium pH 7.0, the B. subtilis CBD2 showed maximum growth. Among soluble starch, corn starch, maize amylopectin, and wheat starch, soluble starch was the most effective carbon source in the production of amylase by B. subtilis CBD2. The amylase from B. subtilis CBD2 showed the highest activities at pH 8.0 and $50^{\circ}C$, and corn starch was the most proper substrate for the enzyme activity. When corn starch was used as a substrate, the production of sugars through enzyme activity increased for 24 h, and then the enzyme activity became constant.

With rapid economic development, general demand and interest in surroundings that consist of our lives have grown gradually. In addition, as there has been increased social interest in creating landscape of roads, which considers all important factors from the user's view including accessibility, safety, and psychological stability, efforts to improve quality of roads are required. Therefore it is needed to establish standards on safe and comfort road design based on sensibility satisfaction of road users rather than based on standardized road design guidance from the engineering perspective. To this end, research was carried out to analyze sensibility satisfaction of users about road landscape focused on elements of road cross section in a city. It identified relation between sensibility satisfaction and the elements by using principal and cluster analysis, and the multiple regression models. It also found that user's satisfaction about roads and a road landscape is high with road width (3~5 meters), clear zone (2.2~3.9 meters), road central garden (1.05~1.9 meters), shoulder (0.55~1.43 meters), median (0.65~1.625 meters), the number of travel lanes (2~5), height of trees at the central garden (6.4~15 meters) and height of buildings surrounding roads (18~44 meters or 6~15 floors).
Biological activities of solvent fractions obtained from Cnsicum annuum leaves, being used in material of functional food, were examined by the methods of DPPH scavenging activity, reducing power, nitrite scavenging activity, antimicrobial activity and inhibitory effect on tyrosinase activity. The highest yield was obtained from water fraction, where as the lowest yield was obtained from ethyl acetate traction, 16.9% and 0.6%, respectively. Hydrogen donating activity of Capsicum annuum leaves in increased with increasing amount of extract. Reducing power of the ethyl acetate fraction is increased as the amount of extract is increased. Even in the presence of 900 $\mu\textrm{g}$ of ethyl acetate fraction, reducing power was significantly higher than it was fer the control in which there was no extract. Among the various solvent fractions, ethyl acetate fraction showed the strongest scavenging effect on hydrogen peroxide. Nitrite scavenging effects of all concentrations diminished at higher pH, while in the case of pH 1.2, it showed a nitrite scavenging effect of more than 90% at concentration above of ethyl acetate fraction 500 $\mu\textrm{g}$. Among the various solvent fractions from methanol extract of Capsicum annuum leaves, ethyl acetate and butanol fraction showed the strongest antimicrobial activity. Antimicrobial activity of ethyl acetate fraction was 20 mm against Bacillus cereus, 18 mm against Staphylococcus aureus and 17 mm against Streptococcus mutans. Ethyl acetate fraction showed the strongest of inhibitory activity of tyrosinase.
Objectives : Yongdamgosam-hwan(YGH) has been used as a traditional medicine from old times for antiinflammatory effects. Streptococcus mutans(S. mutans) is known as a prime bacteria responsible for causing caries by forming a biofilm referred to as dental plaque on the tooth surface. But antimicrobial activity of YGH with dental disease is not sufficiently understood. This study was designed to investigate the effects of YGH ethanol extract on antimicrobial effect against Streptococcus mutans. Methods : The antimicrobial effect of YGH ethanol extract was assessed by the paper disk diffusion method and optical density method to determine minimum inhibition concentration(MIC), also observed by fractional inhibitory concentration index(FICI) and time-kill assay to figure out the synergic effect on the combination of YGH ethanol extract with antibiotics. Results : The YGH ethanol extract 500 μg was 7.5-8.5 mm diameter of clear zone of inhibition against Streptococcus mutans in a concentration-dependent manner and MIC was 250 μg/mL. The administration of the ethanol extract in combination with gentamicin and streptomycin induced a reduction of ≥4-8-fold in all tested bacteria. Furthermore, time-kill study was found that a combination of YGH ethanol extract with oxacillin and streptomycin produced a more rapid decrease in the concentration of bacteria CFU/mL than the YGH ethanol extract or antibiotics alone. Conclusions : As a result, the YGH ethanol extract has good antimicrobial effects. And the results suggest that YGH could be employed as a natural antibacterial agent in dental care products.

The main component of dental plaque is the mutan containing the a-1,3 bond. The following results were obtained by using a blue mutan to assess the factors affecting the mutan-digesting activity of Streptomyces exfoliatus isolated from soil. A clear zone was produced by mutanase-producing Streptomyces exfoliatus on the minimal essential agar containing blue mutan. Streptomyces exfoliatus digested more blue mutan in the minimal essential broth at pH 7.0 than at pH 5.5 or 8.5. Streptomyces exfoliatus digested more blue mutan at $37^{\circ}C$ than at $32^{\circ}C$ or $42^{\circ}C$ (P<0.05). When the concentration of $CaCl_2$ was increased in the minimal essential broth, the digestion of blue mutan was increased (P<0.05). The optimal concentration of KCl was 10mM to digest blue mutan, but a similar amount of blue mutan was digested at the range of 0.1mM to 6.4mM of $MgCl_2$. When the culture supernatant of Streptomyces exfoliatus was mixed with 2X brain heart infusion broth containing 0.5% yeast extract and 10% sucrose, less artificial plaque was formed by Streptococcus mutans on the orthodontic wire (P<0.05). These results indicated that the secretion of mutanase was identified in culture supernatant of mutan-digesting Streptomyces exfoliatus, suppressing the formation of artificial plaque by Streptococcus mutans.
To investigate phytotoxic substances in Equisetum arvense, the aqueous extracts(25 and 8$0^{\circ}C$) or the freeze-drying matter from aqueous extracts($25^{\circ}C$) of E. arvense were tested at different concentrations for biological activities on callus induction and growth, seed germination, seedling growth and antibacterial function. Callus induction and growth of Oryza sativa and Brassica campestris ssp. pekinensis were inhibited by the aqueous extracts at 8$0^{\circ}C$ than at $25^{\circ}C$ and the higher concentrations. Callus growth of four receptor species was inhibited in order of Platycodon grandiflorum, Sesamum indicum, Brassica campestris ssp. pekinensis and Oryza sativa. Seed germination of Ο. sativa, S. indicum, and B. campestris ssp. pekinensis was not affected at low concentration, but it was proportionally inhibited by the higher concentrations. The greatest inhibition of seed germination was 28.3% compared to control, when 2,000$\mu\textrm{g}$/ml of freeze-drying matter was applied to B. campestris ssp. pekinensis. Shoot growth was stimulated by 500$\mu\textrm{g}$/ml of freeze-drying matter, but it was inhibited by the higher concentrations. Root growth was significantly inhibited compare to control at all concentrations. Antibacterial activity of freeze-drying matter didn't showed against Xantomonas oryzae and Eschrichia coli, but a small clear zone was formed by 500$\mu\textrm{g}$ of freeze-drying matter against Erwinia carotovora ssp. carotovora.
