EFL College Students' Learning Experiences during Film-based Reading Class: Focused on the Analysis of Students' Reflective Journals

  • In the age of information, newly produced knowledge is mostly written in English. Therefore, there has been a strong demand for English language learning in the EFL context. However, most EFL learners possess a lack of interest and motivation in the text-based reading class. In this educational context, film is one of the most widely used materials in English reading classes considering that modern learners are predominantly familiar with various audiovisual materials. The purpose of this study is to investigate how Korean EFL learners experienced in the film-based reading class. Specifically, this study aims to analyze the EFL students' perceptions about the class and learning strategies that they used during the class. In order to comprehensively interpret the EFL learners' experiences in the classroom, a coding system consisting of five categories was developed: report, emotion, reflection, evaluation, future plans. The results of data analysis showed that the use of movies in English reading classes had positive effects on reading comprehension and inference of word meaning. The most frequently used learning strategies were affective strategies which helped them control their emotion, attitude, motivations and values, whereas memorization strategies were rarely used. In this respect, this study suggests that the use of movies in the EFL reading classroom encourage students' attention and help them obtain and activate schema which is useful in gaining a better understanding of text-based reading materials.

  • 본 연구는 교과지식에 기반하여 공학도의 창의적 문제해결 능력을 증진시킬 수 있는 수업 방법으로 질문생성 전략을 활용한 플립러닝을 제시하고 있다. 설계한 플립러닝 수업을 한 학기 동안 정규학부 공학교육과정과 재직자 계약학과 공학교육과정에 적용하여 그 의미와 효과성을 탐색해 보고자 하였다. 실제 적용사례 연구를 통해 학습자의 플립러닝 수업에 대한 학습자 만족도 및 평가 의견을 조사하고 학습자 문제해결력 변화에 미치는 효과를 분석하여, 이후 수업 설계에서 보다 고려되어야 할 요소들을 도출하였다.

중학교 과학 교과서와 수업에 반영된 STS 내용 분석 (An analysis of STS Contents Reflected in the Middle School Science Textbooks and Instructions)

  • 이 연구에서는 제7차 교육과정에 따라 개발된 중학교 과학 교과서의 구성과 접근 방식에서 STS를 어떻게 고려하고 있으며 교과서에서 다루고 있는 STS 내용에는 어떤것들이 있는지를 분석하고, 과학 교사와 학생을 대상으로 면담을 실시하여 수업에서 실제로 STS 교육이 어떻게 이루어지고 있는지를 살펴보았다. 교과서 구성이나 내용 면에서 종전에 비하여 STS가 강조되고 있으나, 주로 읽을거리 형태의 '과학의 응용', '사회적 문제와 논쟁' 내용에 편중되어 있어 보다 다양한 STS 접근과 STS 주제를 포함할 필요가 있다. 그리고 STS 내용에 대한 평가의 어려움, STS 교육에 대한 교사의 인식과 경험 부족, 그리고 학부모와 학생의 인식 부족 등으로 인하여 중학교 과학 수업에서 STS 교육을 실현하기 어려운 것으로 생각된다. 이상과 같은 연구 결과를 토대로 중학교 과학 수업에서 STS 교육이 실효를 거두기 위한 몇 가지 제언을 하였다.

미술영재교육과정 평가에 대한 교사 인식과 요구 : 영재교육기관 유형별 사례연구 (Teachers' Responses to Curriculum Evaluation of Gifted Education in Visual Art : Case Study of Three Types of Institution for Gifted Education)

  • 본 연구는 미술영재교육과정 평가준거에 대한 교사들의 인식과 요구를 탐색하는 것을 목적으로, 영재교육기관 유형에 따라 미술영재교육과정 평가준거에 대한 교사들의 인식과 요구에 차이가 있는지를 분석하였다. 이를 위해 영재교육기관을 시도교육청 운영 영재교육원, 지역공동 영재학급, 단위학교 영재학급의 세 유형으로 구분하고 각 기관의 교사들을 면담하였다. 주요 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 상황평가준거들 중 3개의 평가준거에 대해서 문제점이 제기되었고, 특히 '운영인력의 전문성'과 '자문위원회 활용'의 경우 영재교육기관 유형에 따라 교사들의 의견이 다르게 나타났다. 둘째, 투입평가준거들 중 13개의 평가준거에 대해서 문제점이 제기되었고, 특히 '교육 지원 인력 확보', '교구 및 자료 제공'의 경우 영재교육기관 유형에 따라 교사들의 의견이 다르게 나타났다. 셋째, 과정평가준거들 중 2개의 평가준거에 대해서 문제점이 제기되었고, 특히 '교강사 전문성 신장 노력'의 경우는 영재교육기관에 따라 교사들의 의견이 다르게 나타났다. 넷째, 성과평가준거들 중 4개의 평가준거에 대해 문제점이 제기되었고, 특히 '차년도 예산 확보 계획'의 경우는 영재교육기관 유형에 따라 교사들의 의견이 다르게 나타났다. 연구결과에 근거하여 국가적 수준에서 영재교육과정 평가준거를 개발하고 이를 현장에 적용하기 위한 시사점을 제공하였다.

안드로이드 기반 사고 공유 마인드맵 애플리케이션 구현 (Implementation of Android-based Mindmap Application for Shared Thinking)

  • Mindmap is effective method to analyze informations. And, through mindmap, students can be able to grow their ability of logical reconstruction. In Modern society, people have been developing IT technology and variety of portable devices. So, Educational environments have been being changed accordingly, too. In this study, we have implemented mindmap application that based on android to share the group member's thinking. To effective sharing, we have used mindmap technique and photo attachment feature. In this study, expert evaluation has been carried out by elementary current teachers. In result of this expert evaluation, we have obtained positive feedback at sharing function, input technique and information display. Also, teachers have gave feedbacks that they are willing to use this application in class, if classroom environment is possible.

에어컨 소음의 Sound Quality 평가 (Evaluation of Sound Quality of Air-conditioning Noise)

  • Noise from air-conditioner system installed in the ceiling of a classroom was evaluated to investigate the sound quality of air-conditioning noise. Harmonics of air-conditioning noise were removed and the sound pressure levels of the frequency bands from $250{\sim}630Hz$ were changed to control sound quality. Evaluation for refreshing sensation was conducted using a paired comparison method and the results showed that noise without harmonics were preferred to noise with harmonics. The noises which have larger level increases to the unchanged noise at $250{\sim}630Hz$ were evaluated better in both of the noises with and without harmonics. Results of multiple regression analysis on psychoacoustic parameters and subjective preferences showed sharpness as a major affecting factor in describing the refreshing aspect of air-conditioning sound.

Usability Principles for Augmented Reality Applications in Education

  • It is challenging to select appropriate technology in education to interact with students in today's digital world. Especially when the technologies used at home on smart devices like tablets and mobile phones are very advanced, on the other side, it may be more challenging to find sharing technology in the classroom. One of the ways is to use new technologies like Augmented Reality (AR). The current study aims to develop usability principles for the development and evaluation of education using AR technology applications. We develop usability principles for AR applications by analyzing existing research about heuristic evaluation methods, design principles for AR systems.

Case Study of Publishing and Using Open Courseware: Perspectives of Instructors, Students, and an Evaluation Group

  • Knowledge can be more meaningful when it is shaped and personalized through interaction with others. Implementation of open learning environments such as open courseware or shared knowledge communities has gradually become more common. A case study which investigated instructors' experiences and perceptions of publishing and using open courseware in the classroom was conducted at a university in Korea. Responses from participating students and an evaluation group regarding how they perceived open learning environments were also examined. Based on the inductive analysis of the data, this study discusses advantages and challenges of publishing open courseware and collaborative learning environments. Also, practical guidelines for developing reusable learning materials are suggested.

생활 주변 자료 활용 수업이 학업성취도에 미치는 효과 (The Effects of the Instructional Use of Materials Around Everyday Life on Science Academic Achievement: Focused on the Third and Sixth - Grade Level)

  • The purpose of this study is to guide and apply gettable and accessible materials around everyday life into classroom instruction, and to find out their effects on student academic achievement. In order to achieve it, this study was tried to develop and guide available materials around life in teaming activities, to provide a preliminary assignment that could apply the available materials, and to compare its academic achievement to one from field trip loaming. For the hypothesis testing, first, the experimental and comparing classes were selected based on the results of basic learning diagnostic evaluation, which conducted by the researcher being served as a full-time science teacher of the third and sixth grade of K elementary school in Kwangju for 2 years. Secondly, the instructional use of the available materials around life was applied to the experimental class. Also, the instructional use of the existing materials was applied to the comparing class. Finally, for the testing of the effects on academic achievement, the posterio test was implemented after conducting the experimental instruction in knowledge·understanding, inquiry process, and attitude domains classified by the unit characteristics. Using SPSS/WIN program the t-test was performed in order to compare the differences between the two groups. Major findings were as follows: 1) In the achievement test of knowledge·understanding domain, there were no significant differences at the 5% level between the experimental and comparing classes. It could be difficult to say, therefore, that the instructional use of the available materials around life was more effective than the instructional use of the existing materials. However, it had some effects on differences between the third grade final achievement test and sixth grade experimental class. 2) In the achievement test of inquiry process domain, there were some significant differences in that the sixth grade experimental class was higher than the third grade out-of classroom experience unit. It was indicated that the instructional use of the available materials around life had some effects on improving the students' inquiry ability 3) In achievement test of attitude domain, there were some significant differences. It was shown that the self-evaluation test of the sixth grade experimental class unit was higher than that of the third grade out-of classroom experience unit; Especially, the learning activities in the experimental class were more active, and the experimental practice ability was improved. It was presented that the instructional use of the available materials around life had some effects on the students' academic achievement in attitude domain. It was concluded from this study that the instructional use of the available materials around life was less effective on Knowledge understanding domain, but was effective on improving their scientific inquiry ability and interest on science education.

수업컨설팅 활성화를 위한 매뉴얼 개발 - 수학 교과를 중심으로 - (Research on the manual development for activating teaching consulting in mathematics)

  • 본 연구는 수업컨설팅과 관련된 이론과 실천을 연계한 컨설팅 활성화 방안을 제안하는 것을 목적으로 두고, 학교교육의 문제 해결, 교사의 전문성 신장, 수업의 질 향상에 보탬이 되고자 하였다. 이러한 취지에서 한국교육과정평가원에서는 수학, 과학 및 영어의 3개 교과를 중심으로 교과별 내용교수지식(Pedagogical Content Knowledge, PCK)에 초점을 둔 수업컨설팅 실시 방안 및 그 구체적인 내용을 '수업컨설팅 매뉴얼'의 형태로 담아내고자 하였다. 본고에서는 수업컨설팅의 의미를 점검하고, 설문 조사를 통하여 현행 수업컨설팅 운영 실태 및 문제점을 진단하고자 하였다. 또, 매뉴얼 개발을 위한 수업컨설팅 사례를 분석하여 이를 토대로 수업컨설팅 활성화를 매뉴얼을 개발하고 개발된 수업컨설팅 매뉴얼 활용 방안을 정책 제언으로 제안하였다. 다만, 본고에서는 지면관계상 수업컨설팅 활성화 매뉴얼 부문에서 '처방 및 투입 단계'에 초점을 두어 제시하였다.
