  • The purpose of this study is to analyse the semantic relations of terms in STNet, a structured terminology dictionary based on author keywords of humanities, social sciences, and art and sport in the Korea Citation Index (KCI) and to describe the procedure for optimizing the relation types and specifying the name of relationships. The results indicate that four logical criteria, such as creating new names for relationships or limitation of typing the relationship by the appearance frequency of same type, consideration of direction of relationship, reflection to accept the existing name of relationships, are required for the optimization of the typing and naming the relationships. We applied these criteria to the relationships in the class "real person" of STNet and the result shows that 1,135 out of 1,743 uncertain relationships such as RT, RT_X or RT_Y are specified and clarified. This rate of optimization with ca. 65% represents the usefulness of the criteria applicable to the cases of database construction and retrieval.

  • Since there is nothing in the literature regarding how Koreans value their children, this is an exploratory study attempting to (1) generate ideas as to why women of child- bearing age want children and (2) discover aspects of the interaction between the value of children and the fertility behavior according to socio-economic class and level of education. Fifty women from the Yonhee A Citizen′s Apartment and 50 women from the slum area surrounding the Yonhee Apartment were interviewed by the investigator during the period of October 10 to October 25, 1972. All of the women interviewed were under 35 years of age and had more than one child. The questionnaire consisted of questions regarding the general characteristics of the respondents, the status of current family planning practice, the number of induced abortions and the reasons for wanting children. An open ended question followed by a forced choice question was the method used to determine the reasons for wanting children. The results of the study were as follows: 1. Half of all the respondents were between 30 and 34 years of age. 2. Four percent of the respondents had no schooling, 51 percent had graduated from primary school, and 45 percent were educated beyond middle school. 3. The most important reasons tot wanting children given by the respondents were categorized as follows: (1) carrying on the family name, (2) old age security, (3) value of life, (4) fun of rearing children, (5) avoidance of loneliness, (6) responsibility of women. 4. The number of consistent answers between the open ended and forced choice questions regarding reasons for wanting children was significantly different. Only 30 women among the total respondents gave consistent answers. Carrying on the family name was the category in which there was the highest rate of consistency. 5. The reasons for wanting children were not significantly different for age, educational level, and number of living children for all of the respondents. 6. In response to the question "If you want to have only one child, which sex , would you prefer\ulcorner" 96 percent of the respondents said they would select a son. 7. Major suggestions for further study were to differentiate. (1) between reasons women want children and reasons women have children and (2) between reasons men want children and reasons women want children.

  • For countless time, many have been made in our oriental medicine. To understand such prescription and to use, we must study the monarch(jun), minister(chen), adjuvant(zou) and guide(shi) theory that is most of the prescription structure principle's the basis. The monarch is the center of the prescription. Two kind is greatly in the method to select the monarch, in the prescription. One method is that a medicinal herb of the high class of medical herb of the Sinnong's Classic becomes the monarch, and the other method is a medicinal herbs which there is most many qunantity in the prescription becomes the monarch. Additionally, a medicinal herbs name of a prescription name can become the monarch. The minister assist the monarch and this is a criteria of the prescription grouping with the monarch. The minister has close relation with the monarch. The adjuvant helps the monarch and the minister nature of drug or restains. So this makes the prescription effectiveness act accurately. The guide does the activity to help the harmony of the prescription and the activity to help the prescription to act in correct place. If we understand the monarch, minister, adjuvant and guide theory well, we have some advantage. The interpreting of the prescription comes to De easy. and, an application range of the prescription is enhanced. the increase and decrease of the medicinal herbs comes to be easy in the prescription. Finally that theory will be used for the principle to make new prescription.

  • To provide a guideline for the development of a web-based sport biomechanics class in undergraduate program, thirty web sites, searched via search engines in May 2002, were analyzed intensively. In terms of requirement of log-in, only one site of 30 sites required user name and password. Seventeen(57%) sites provided the lecture note, which had various file formats such as 59% if PDF, 29% of HTML, and 12% of PPT. Fourteen(47%) sites provided the assignment and grade information on web. Eleven(37%) sites provided various resource and links which were related in sports biomechanics. Only four(13%) sites provided discussion or online digitizing or kinematic analysis program. Based on above results, a guideline for the development of a virtual classroom for college level sport biomechanics. A web-based sport biomechanics class should be developed with consideration of several functions as follows; homepage design, lecture note, measurement of class attendance, collaborative research system, and web-based data collection and analysis software for biomechanics laboratory.

  • In most classrooms, teachers talk more than students. Teachers have been thought to be knowledge-donors and students have been thought to be knowledge-acceptors, so teacher-talks were thought to be more important than student-talks. But student-talks are very important to the students: not only to the students who speak out their opinions or answer to the questions given to them, but also to the others who say nothing in the class. Many students in Korea are not so fond of speaking out something to all the class, so some teachers are using a strategy: to say something as if he for she) is a student in the classroom. What teachers talk are not the words of the teacher-talks. They are only talked by the teachers, but they function like student-talks. To study this type of talks are needed to help both teachers and students but there are not much research about this. So in this paper we a) name it Pseudo Student Talk (PST), b) define it as 'a kind of talks that are not talked by students of the class but its functions are very similar to the student-talks', c) classify PST in 'EBS 2005 science class for 7th grade' according to types of student talks (categorized by Lemke, 1990), and d) show the usage of each kind of PST.

  • Peking has peculiar features as capital city, and has gone through various transformations, with its name changed from Peking to Peiping to Peking. Even when it did not serve as a capital city, it still played an unrivaled role in cultural aspects. Laoshe, a great writer of 'Peking flavour' literature, is famous for works full of cultural charms of Peking. In his works, which show the manners, norms, art, culture and optimistic life style of Peking, Peking culture is described as an extension of cultural traditions of Qiren. In addition, his critical view of reality is also expressed in the works. Linhaiyin's literary works show ordinary hutongs she experienced in the 1920s in Chengnan, the southern part of Peking, and the quiet and simple life of warm-hearted people living there. Her vague memories of Peking, along with her nostalgia for the city, let her describe the city with recreated happy memories of it instead of the harsh critical view. Her works express the city in her recreated memory full of hope, with her dark memories of the city being glossed over. As seen above, Laoshe realistically described the tragic and difficult life of low class people in hutongs of Peking as well as lower middle class people of the city. Meanwhile, in ChengnanJiushi, Linhaiyin expresses the daily routine and ordinary life of people in Peking from the perspective of middle class people. In addition, she showed the sympathetic view of middle class citizens towards their low-class neighbors. In Peking Menghualu, Wangdewei mentioned that the 'castle of memory' which old Peking people in Taiwan tried to establish fills an important gap for the continuity of Peking cultural history and cultural imagination. This indicates that the 'Peking castle of memories,' which Linhaiyin, a Taiwanese writer well known for 'Peking flavour,' has established plays a big role in filling part of such gap. ChengnanJiushi, Wuyigong's film based on Linhaiyin's novel of the same title, also describes the daily sceneries and culture of the southern Peking in the 1920s, which both Taiwanese and Chinese people miss, through sophisticated images with 'profound yearning tinted with calm sadness', accomplishing an artistic achievement different from that of the novel.

  • Web-based Assessment System is needed for Process-Oriented Evaluation to integrate instructions into evaluation frequently in Informatics Education, and considered usability for supporting teachers to test more conveniently. First of all, we analyzed usability of traditional Web-based Assessment System, and proposed PBA(Paper-Based Assessment) model by extracting usability features of paper-pencil assessment in off-line. The evaluation system based on the PBA model controls the whole processes of tests; before-test, under-test, after-test. Especially, the system readily can change the target class, and control access to the test page during each step. Thus we can get high credibility about the test results. Moreover, students can login to the paper easily by using their grade, class, number and name. Finally, we designed and implemented the Web-based Assessment System for Informatics education on the basis of PBA model; PAS(PBA-based Assessment System).

  • The lipid components of the gonad of sea urchin Hemicentrotus pulcherrimus, ark shell Scapharca bro-ughtonii and "Gaebul" (Korea name, a worm) Urechis unicinctus were investigated. The total lipid (TL) contents of the sea urchin, the ark shell and the "Gaebul" were 6.10, 0.67 and 0.79%, respectively. The percentages of phospholipid (PL) in TL were higher in the "Gaebul"(72.4%) and ark shell(64.9%) compared to the sea urchin (41.7%). The major lipid classes of PL were phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylethanolamine, and the former was rich in the sea urchin (56.2%) and the latter in the "Gaebul"(34.4%). In the class of non-polar lipid (NL), the major lipid classes were different from species ; the sea urchin was rich in triglyceride(TG, 89.0%), the ark shell rich in TG (69.2%) and cholesterol (ST 26.8%) and the "Gaebul"rich in ST (70.7%). The prominent fatty acids of the sea urchin were 16 : 0, 14 : 0, 20 : 5n-3, 20 : 4n-6 and 20 : 4n-6 and 20 : 2NMID(non-methylene interupted dien). The percentage of 20 : 4n-6 was the highest of the investigated invertebrates, accounting for 19.8% in PL, but 22 : 6n-3 was not detected in the sea urchin. In case of the ark shell, the prominent fatty acids were 16 : 0, 18 : 0, 20 : 5n-3, 22 : 6n-3 and 22 : 2NMID, especially 22 : 6n-3(9.58%) was richer compared to that of the "Gaebul". The prominent fatty acids of the "Gaebul"were 20 : 5n-3, 16 : 0, 18 : 0 20 : 1n-9, 16 : 1n-7 and 14 : 0. The percentage of 20 : 5n-3 (22.0%) was highest in the PL of the "Gaebul"among the three invertebrates. These differences in the lipid components of all the sample is considered to be due to the different food habits and environmental condition of the invertebrates.

  • Recently, a lot of research that applies data acquired from devices such as cameras and RFIDs to context aware services is being performed in the field on Life-Log and the sensor network. A variety of analytical techniques has been proposed to recognize various information from the raw data because video and audio data include a larger volume of information than other sensor data. However, manually watching a huge amount of media data again has been necessary to create supervised data for the update of a class or the addition of a new class because these techniques generally use supervised learning. Therefore, the problem was that applications were able to use only recognition function based on fixed supervised data in most cases. Then, we proposed a method of acquiring supervised data from a video sharing site where users give comments on any video scene because those sites are remarkably popular and, therefore, many comments are generated. In the first step of this method, words with a high utility value are extracted by filtering the comment about the video. Second, the set of feature data in the time series is calculated by applying functions, which extract various feature data, to media data. Finally, our learning system calculates the correlation coefficient by using the above-mentioned two kinds of data, and the correlation coefficient is stored in the DB of the system. Various other applications contain a recognition function that is used to generate collective intelligence based on Web comments, by applying this correlation coefficient to new media data. In addition, flexible recognition that adjusts to a new object becomes possible by regularly acquiring and learning both media data and comments from a video sharing site while reducing work by manual operation. As a result, recognition of not only the name of the seen object but also indirect information, e.g. the impression or the action toward the object, was enabled.
