  • Internal waves, including all kinds of wave phenomena inside a stratified fluid system, have been a subject of interest for a long time in geophysics, coastal and ocean engineering, applied mathematics and hydrodynamics. The vast oceans on the earth are a complex stratified fluid system widely distributed with pycnoclines, which are horizontally layered regions with a large density variation, commonly located about 50-150 meters below the ocean surface. • In this study, the settlement prediction method based on field monitoring data under preloading improvement with ramp loading is developed. Settlement behavior can be predicted with field monitored settlement throughout the entire preloading process including ramp loading followed by constant loading. The developed method is verified by comparing its predicted results with results from physical model tests and field monitoring data.

  • In recent years, membranes have become fully or partially integrated into all facilities that produce drinking water since membrane processes can resolve technically complex and, at times, conflicting requirements related to compliance with multi-contaminant regulations. However, NF or RO technologies are hydraulically limited by the feed water quality that causes the fouling in a membrane system. In particular, NF or RO systems involved in surface water treatment generally require extensive pretreatment for controlling membrane fouling.(omitted)

  • The paper introduces the grid technology currently applied intensively to civil engineering around the world. Basic concepts of grid technology and its application areas are summarized. Some of available grid systems in foreign countries and also in Korea are introduced and their main goals and functions aye compared. Through reviewing the KOCED program currently under development in Korea, the future of the grid technology in civil engineering is groped.

  • This study is intended to examine the present condition and management of Korean civil litigation between 1895 and 1905, during which the traditional korean legal system had undergone a significant reform until it was finally incorporated into the Japanese colonial counterpart. Civil litigation is important in historical archiving, in that we can understand archiving over time, the governing structure and our national identity. However at times we are not able to use them practically. The ultimate goal of preserving and maintaining the archives is to use them practically. The effective use of archives should be supported by their systematic management and access to a high standard. Therefore, the second main theme of this study is to propose to unveil civil litigation to the public for professional studies. Firstly, we should make a list of civil judgments from a management perspective. Secondly, we should inform people of the civil justice rulings through publicity activities such as contents creation, exhibition, documentary creation, education and so on. Thirdly, the historical archives of the civil litigations should be preserved apart form records. Fourthly, I should propose that we offer curriculum about interpreting and understanding history archives for strengthening of our expertise. Civil judgment of Guhanmal-Japanese is invaluable as it explains the history of our culture. Results of Conservation and utilization will be a valuable resource and invaluable to study.
