  • Starting from 2005, as the new city paradigm, the term 'u-City' was created in Korea. U-City service, as defined in "u-City law", is a service that connects and intermediates among government, traffic, welfare, environment, disaster mitigation, etc., and their data based on ubiquitous city technology and infrastructure. According to the survey executed by local governments, the improvements in the standard of living of citizens have in turn increased the needs for anti-mitigation services. Such trend is bolstered with the recent disasters such as the conflagration of Korean Soong-rae Gate and the devastating earthquake of Sichuan province. This article describes a concept of the u-City disaster prevention service and looks into the activities and planning of u-City disaster prevention service of local governments. This paper also briefly looks into the law and policies to derive the needs of u-City disaster prevention service as well as the current technologies and u-City disaster prevention services of local governments. Ultimately, this paper offers the strategic direction of developing u-Disaster Prevention City.

  • This study used the contingent valuation method to determine how much consumers would be willing to pay to improve their city-gas safety and what factors influence consumers' willingness-to-pay (WTP). To elicit this information a mail questionnaire was sent to a randomly selected sample of 2,400 residents who use the city-gas. The survey results showed that individuals were willing to pay $4,750{\pm}342.8$ won per month for the city-gas safety improvement. The aggregate annual WTP was estimated at 121.5~318.0 billion won. To better understand how individual's socio/demographic characteristics affect the WTP, Censored Tobit analysis was used. The results show that higher income, more gas use (cooking and heating), willingness to install a safety instrument significantly increase consumer's WTP.

In this background, concerning about the system on apartment house especially relating to environmentally sound restoration and comparing with that of Japan, this study proposes the direction needed in the development of urban space.

For out-patients, the result showed that "hospital hygiene" had a positive and negative impact on the clients' intention to revisit the hospital in priority improvements. In terms of the sustainable improvements, "doctor's skill" had a negative impact on the overall service satisfaction, whereas "state-of-the-art facility" and "nurse's instruction" had a positive impact on the intention to revisit the hospital. In long-term improvements,"complaint remedy" had a positive impact on the intention to recommend the hospital but there were no relevant factors in excessive investment. On the other hand, for in-patients, the result demonstrated that there were no relevant factors in priority improvements and sustainable improvements. The factor of"service procedure speed"had a positive as well as negative impact on the intention to revisit the hospital. • This paper presents and analyzes urban planning process to be adopted to create ubiquitous space in city environment, using City of Seoul's Digital Media Street Project as a case study. The Digital Media Street will become the main pedestrian thoroughfare in the Digital Media City (DMC) in Sangam area, planned to become the world's first ubiquitous environment in full urban scale. Ubiquitous space is reinterpreted from an urban planning perspective, and a new approach to planning such a space is introduced, including strategies to couple technology, space, and human activities. Methodology, role of different actors, planning process, and institutional arrangement are examined in turn, and this yields further agenda for improvements that can be made in planning ubiquitous spaces in the future.
