  • The use of underground transmission cables has increased continuously in densely inhabited urban and suburban for power transmission. Two or more transmission lines are outgoing from one substation in many cases, and one line comprises twin circuits. In order to meet the increasing do and for electric power, underground tables of two or fore circuits are installed in ducts in parallel for several kilometer in the same route. It, however, has not been known generally that the sheath circulating current is generated in a system where a large number of cables are laid on the same route. Therefore, this paper describes an improved analysis method for sheath circulating current on underground transmission cables using EMTP. Author propose several methods to reduce sheath circulating current. The analysing method and reduction methods for two or more underground cables will be really improved for cable system utility.

  • A Circulating Fluidized-Bed (CFB) with an internal nozzle and a partition wall was proposed. The technique of fluidization is related to operations first used commercially in the fields of metallurgical and mechanical engineering such as the heat treatment of metals and power station combustors. In the modified CFB, an internal nozzle and a partition wall were additionally set in the main bed. This cold mode CFB apparatus made of acrylic resin; the main bed is 1,500mm high and 100mm in the inner diameter, the internal nozzle is 130mm high and 10mm in the inner diameter, and the partition wall is 7mm thick and 100mm in the diameter. Glass beads of $89{\mu}m$ in the mean diameter were employed as bed materials.

  • This paper describes an improved analysis method for sheath circulating current on three-underground transmission cables using EMTP(Electromagnetic Transient Program). Author studied diversely the sheath circulating current on three-underground cables depending on the various length rate, the phase arrangement, and the grounding resistance of the sheath in the cross-bonded section. It was clear that very large circulating current is generated in cable systems due to unbalanced length rate and phase arrangement in the cross-bonded section. The analysing method for two or more underground cables will be really Improved for cable system utility.

  • This paper proposes the proper phase arrangement of transmission lines for reducing the zero sequence circulating current. It is a well-known fact that the zero sequence circulating currents are principally caused by the untranposed lines and numerical estimation method already has been established. In this paper, the circuit analysis for calculating the zero sequence circulating currents was performed on the existing 154kV four-circuit systems of KEPCO and the proper phase arrangement was determined.

  • This paper proposes a novel circulating current control method for an MMC-HVDC system based on Vector PI control. The method can suppress second-order harmonics of the circulating currents under balanced and unbalanced grid conditions. The proposed method is robust to grid frequency variation. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified through frequency response and time domain simulation.

  • Background: The aim of this study was to analyze the prognostic implications of pretreatment circulating endothelial cells (CECs) and circulating endothelial progenitor cells (CEPCs) for the survival of patients with lung cancer. Materials and Methods: Relevant literature was identified using Medline and EMBASE. Patient clinical characteristics, overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) together with CEC and CEPC positive rates before treatment were extracted. STATA 12.0 was used for our analysis and assessment of publication bias. Results: A total of 13 articles (8 for CEC and 5 for CEPC, n=595 and n=244) were pooled for the global meta-analysis. The odds ratio (OR) for OS predicted by pretreatment CECs was 1.641 [0.967, 2.786], while the OR for PFS was 1.168 [0.649, 2.100]. The OR for OS predicted by pretreatment CEPCs was 12.673 [5.274, 30.450], while the OR for PFS was 4.930 [0.931, 26.096]. Subgroup analyses were conducted according to clinical staging. Odds ratio (OR) showed the high level of pretreatment CECs only correlated with the OS of patients with advanced lung cancer (stage III-IV). Conclusions: High counts of CECs seem to be associated only with worse 1-year OS in patients with lung cancer, while high level of pretreatment CEPCs correlate with both worse PFS and OS.

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Lower circulating 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] levels are associated with a higher risk of hypertension (HTN); however, it remains unclear whether the relationship is causal. We aimed to evaluate the causal effects of circulating 25(OH)D levels on the prevalence of HTN in the Korean population using the Mendelian randomization (MR) approach. SUBJECTS/METHODS: Epidemiological data, serum 25(OH)D data, and genomic DNA biospecimens were obtained from 2,591 participants, a subset of the study population in the Korea National Health and Nutrition Survey 2011-2012. Five 25(OH)D-related single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs; DHCR7 rs12785878, CYP2R1 rs10741657, CYP2R1 rs12794714, CYP24A1 rs6013897, and GC rs2282679), identified a priori from genome-wide association studies, were used as instrument variables (IVs) for serum 25(OH)D levels. In the MR analysis, we performed IV analyses using the two-stage least squares method. RESULTS: In the observational analysis, circulating 25(OH)D levels were found to be inversely associated with the HTN prevalence in ordinary least squares models (odds ratio: 0.97, 95% confidence interval: 0.96, 0.99) after adjusting for the potential confounders. There were differences in the circulating 25(OH)D levels across genotypes of individual SNPs. In the MR analysis, using individual SNPs as IVs, 25(OH)D levels were not associated with the HTN prevalence. CONCLUSIONS: We found no association between genetically determined circulating 25(OH)D levels and HTN in Korean adults. Our results are listed owing to the relatively small sample size and possible weak instrument bias; therefore, further studies are needed to confirm these results.

  • This paper presents a new hybrid soft switching dc-dc converter with a low circulating current and high circuit efficiency. The proposed hybrid converter includes two sub-converters sharing two power switches. One is a three-level PWM converter and the other is a LLC converter. The LLC converter and the three-level converter share the lagging-leg switches and extend the zero-voltage switching (ZVS) range of the lagging-leg switches from nearly zero to full load since the LLC converter can be operated at fsw (switching frequency) $\approx$ fr (series resonant frequency). A passive snubber is used on the secondary side of the three-level converter to decrease the circulating current on the primary side, especially at high input voltage and full load conditions. Thus, the conduction losses due to the circulating current are reduced. The output sides of the two converters are connected in series. Energy can be transferred from the input voltage to the output load within the whole switching period. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed converter is verified by experiments with a 1.44kW prototype circuit.
