Forced vibration of a thin circular ring with a concentrated harmonic force is analyzed when the ring is free and has only the in-plane motion. Using the unit doublet function for external force, the governing equation is obtained and is solved by the use of Laplace transform. The exact solutions of displacement components and bending moment are obtained. In order to verify the solutions of analysis, finite element analysis is performed and the results shows good agreement. Then, frequency response curves for displacement and bending moment are obtained. In deriving the governing equations and the solutions, nondimensional parameter of the exciting frequency and the magnitude of exciting force are extracted. As the displacement components are obtained, the remaining bending strain, slope, curvature, shear force, etc. can also be derived. With the results of this work, the responses of a free ring excited on multiple points with different frequencies can also be obtained easily by superposition.

This paper confirms the similarity of temperature tendency through numerical analysis and comparison with test, and it also confirms that temperature prediction of LED lightings is possible by numerical analysis. We confirmed that the temperature difference is about $10{\sim}20^{\circ}C$ except for some measurement points and shows similar tendency with the interpretation through manufacturing and performance analysis of AL heat sink applied Circular LED street lights and manufacturing and performance analysis of CMP-PLA heat sink applied Circular LED street lights. The simulations use Octree technique in SC/Tetra to set the grid size df the surface.
This paper presents a development of high accuracy aligner and describes a method to find the orientation of a substantially circular disk shaped wafer with at least one flat region on an edge thereof. In the developed system, the wafer is spun one 360 degree turn on a chuck and the edge position is measured by a linear array to obtain a set of data points at various wafer orientation. The rotation axis may differ from wafer center by an unknown eccentricity. The flat angle is found by fitting a cosine curve to the actual data to obtain a deviation. The maximum deviation is then corrected for errors due to a finite number of data points and wafer eccentricity by calculating an adjustment angle from data points on the wafer fiat. After determining the flat angle the wafer is spun to the desired orientation. The wafer eccentricity can be calculated from four of the data points located away from the flat edge region. and the wafer is then centered.
In this paper, an eye-in-hand visual servoing strategy for keeping feature points within the FOV(field-of-view) is proposed. We first specify the FOV constraint which must be satisfied to keep the feature points within the FOV. It is expressed as the inequality relationship between (i) the LOS(jine-of-sight) angles of the center of the feature points from the optical axis of the camera and (ii) the distance between the object and the camera. We then design a nonlinear feedback controller which decouples linearly the translational and rotational control loops. Finally, we show that appropriate choice of the controller gains assures to satisfy the FOV constraint. The main advantage of our approach over the previous ones is that the trajectory of the camera is smooth and circular-like. Furthermore, ours can be applied to the large camera displacement problem.
Axially compressed circular cylinders repeat symmetry-breaking bifurcation in the postbuckling region. There exist stable equilibria with all symmetry broken in the buckled configuration, and the minimum postbuckling strength is attained at the deep bottom of closely spaced equilibrium branches. The load level corresponding to such postbuckling stable solutions is usually much lower than the initial buckling load and may serve as a strength limit in shell stability design. The primary concern in the present paper is to compute these possible postbuckling stable solutions at the deep bottom of the postbuckling region. Two computational approaches are used for this purpose. One is the application of individual procedures in computational bifurcation theory. Path-tracing, pinpointing bifurcation points and (local) branch-switching are all applied to follow carefully the postbuckling branches with the decreasing load in order to attain the target at the bottom of the postbuckling region. The buckled shell configuration loses its symmetry stepwise after each (local) branch-switching procedure. The other is to introduce the idea of path jumping (namely, generalized global branch-switching) with static imperfection. The static response of the cylinder under two-parameter loading is computed to enable a direct access to postbuckling equilibria from the prebuckling state. In the numerical example of an elastic perfect circular cylinder, stable postbuckling solutions are computed in these two approaches. It is demonstrated that a direct path jump from the undeformed state to postbuckling stable equilibria is possible for an appropriate choice of static perturbations.
This paper presents a method to recognize the plane regions for movement of walking robots. When the autonomous agencies using stereo camera or laser scanning sensor is under unknown 3D environment, the mobile agency has to detect the plane regions to decide the moving direction and perform the given tasks. In this paper, we propose a very fast method for plane detection using normal vector of a triangle by 3 vertices defined on a small circular region. To reduce the effect of noises and outliers, the triangle rotates with respect to the center position of the circular region and generates a series of triangles with different normal vectors based on different three points on the boundary of the circular region. The vectors for several triangles are normalized and then median direction of the normal vectors is used to test the planarity of the circular region. The method is very fast and we prove the performance of algorithm for real range data obtained from a stereo camera system.
Numerical solution to linear bending analysis of circular plates is obtained by the method of harmonic differential quadrature (HDQ). In the method of differential quadrature (DQ), partial space derivatives of a function appearing in a differential equation are approximated by means of a polynomial expressed as the weighted linear sum of the function values at a preselected grid of discrete points. The method of HDQ that was used in the paper proposes a very simple algebraic formula to determine the weighting coefficients required by differential quadrature approximation without restricting the choice of mesh grids. Applying this concept to the governing differential equation of circular plate gives a set of linear simultaneous equations. Bending moments, stresses values in radial and tangential directions and vertical deflections are found for two different types of load. In the present study, the axisymmetric bending behavior is considered. Both the clamped and the simply supported edges are considered as boundary conditions. The obtained results are compared with existing solutions available from analytical and other numerical results such as finite elements and finite differences methods. A comparison between the HDQ results and the finite difference solutions for one example plate problem is also made. The method presented gives accurate results and is computationally efficient.

This paper presents a parametric study on the free vibration analysis of a functionally graded material (FGM) circular plate with non-uniform thickness resting on a variable Pasternak elastic foundation. The mechanical properties of the material vary in the transverse direction through the thickness of the plate according to the power-law distribution to represent the constituent components. The equation of motion of the circular plate has been carried out based on the classical plate theory (CPT), and the differential quadrature method (DQM) is employed to solve the governing equations as a semi-analytical method. The grid points are chosen based on Chebyshev-Gauss-Lobatto distribution to achieve acceptable convergence and better accuracy. The influence of geometric parameters, variable elastic foundation, and functionally graded variation for clamped and simply supported boundary conditions on the first three natural frequencies are investigated. Comparisons of results with similar studies in the literature have been presented and two-dimensional mode shapes for particular plates have been plotted to illustrate the effect of variable thickness profile.
