The purpose of this study was to analyze urban greenspace area and vegetation structure by land use types for both Chuncheon and Kangleung. Natural and agricultural lands were predominant in the study cites, as 75-80% of total area. Residential lands accounted for about 10%, and commercial and industrial lands(including transportation), 5-10%. Only 10-20% of urban residential and commercial area was covered with greenspace. Woody plant cover was 12-13%, and tree density was 1.5 trees/100$m^2$ for urban lands(all land use types except natural land) in both cities. The tree-age structure was largely characterized by young, growing tree population, and species diversity within a diameter class decreases as the diameter classes get larger. Urban lands of both cities had quite a similar species composition of woody plants (similarity index of 0.65). Street trees in Chuncheon were intensively pruned annually to protect the above ground utility lines. Some strategies were explored to solve problems found in the existing greenspace structures. They included increase of biomass and greenspace area through minimization of unnecessary impervious surfaces, creation of multilayered and multiaged vegetation structures, relocation of above ground utility lines and avoidance of intensive tree pruning, and establishment of greenspace proximity and connectivity.
Objective : In Asians, kneeling and squatting are the postures that are most often induce common peroneal neuropathy. However, we could not identify a compatible compression site of the common peroneal nerve (CPN) during hyper-flexion of knees. To evaluate the course of the CPN at the popliteal area related with compressive neuropathy using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans of healthy Koreans. Methods : 1.5-Tesla knee MRI scans were obtained from enrolled patients and were retrospectively reviewed. The normal populations were divided into two groups according to the anatomical course of the CPN. Type I included subjects with the CPN situated superficial to the lateral gastocnemius muscle (LGCM). Type II included subjects with the CPN between the short head of biceps femoris muscle (SHBFM) and the LGCM. We calculated the thickness of the SHBFM and posterior elongation of this muscle, and the LGCM at the level of femoral condyles. In type II, the length of popliteal tunnel where the CPN passes was measured. Results : The 93 normal subjects were included in this study. The CPN passed through the "popliteal tunnel" formed between the SHBFM and the LGCM in 36 subjects (38.7% type II). The thicknesses of SHBFM and posterior portions of this muscle were statistically significantly increased in type II subjects. The LGCM thickness was comparable in both groups. In 78.8% of the "popliteal tunnel", a length of 21 mm to <40 mm was measured. Conclusion : In Korean population, the course of the CPN through the "popliteal tunnel" was about 40%, which is higher than the Western results. This anatomical characteristic may be helpful for understanding the mechanism of the CPNe by posture.

This Study was carried out at the experimental Plot of Kang-Weon Province, Institute of Agriculture experiment, to find out Irrigation Water requirement and suitable calculating formula of evapotranspiration on Spreading Varieties of rice plant such as Seul Oak, Bokkwang and Teaback in Chuncheon Area. The evapotranspiration, infiltration, and consumptive use of water were measured by Micro Lysimeter for four years from '86yr. Also, yield of rice was investigated during same period. With the Kc Value taken from experimental value, evapotranspiration was calculated by methods of Blaney & criddle, Penman, Hargreaves and Thornthwaite by Computer using meteorological data in Chuncheon Area for twenty one yrs from '66yr to '86yr. All analyses were conducted based on average value of experiment for four years and the results are summarized as follows : 1) The yield by varieties through this experiment showed 1.06 times in Seul Oak, 1.94 times in Bokkwang and 1.89 times in Teaback more than Standard Yield. 2) The consumptive use of water including infiltration were 1.068.4mm in Seul Oak, 1,102. 6mm in Bokkwang and 1,195.6mm in Teaback 3) The evapotranspiration by Actual measurement presented 520.lmm in Seul Oak, 540.lmm in Bokkwang and 598.4mm in Teaback 4)The ratio of evapotranspiration and infiltration over Panevaporation showed 1.2 to 1.4. 5) The irrigation water reguirement by water balance were shown to be irrigated more than 584 mm / yr in average during 21 years from '66yr to '86yr for all Varieties and those for loyr frequency 693 mm in Seul Oak, 712 mm in Bokkwang and 728 mm in Teaback respectively. 6) Crop Coefficient (Ke Value) of the tested rice plant during the period were shown as Table 10. 7) Penman Method was the formula the most close to experiment Value among four different methods of Blaney & Griddle Penman, Hargreaves, and Thornthwaite.

Ixeris dentata is a perennial plant belongs to Compositae family and it has been considered as a potential therapeutic agent in many biological activities like detoxification, elimination of blood stasis, anti-inflammatory, and analgesia. The I. dentata used in this experiment was collected in four areas of Yangpyeong, Dangjin, Chuncheon and Goesan, then transplanted to the farm of Department of Herbal Crop Research in National Institute of Horticultural and Herbal Science. The growth characteristics of I. dentata were investigated after harvesting. The aboveground biomass of plants collected from Chuncheon area was exhibited best, and the biomass of root in YangPyeong was showed best as 3.65 g/plant in dry weight. Based on the HPLC analysis, the leaf of I. dentata collected from Dangjin area was highest in carotenoids contents ($1,213{\mu}g/g$ dry weight), and the leaf of Chuncheon area was exhibited maximal phenolic compounds ($1,918{\mu}g/g$ dry weight). The results of this study could provide fundamental formation for selection of standard varieties of I. dentata and development of functional material by analysis of the growth characteristics and the contents of carotenoids and phenolic compounds.
The site selection process for deep geological disposal of high-level radioactive waste will be conducted in stages, and 103 evaluation parameters related to site selection have been proposed. In the field of rock mechanics and rock engineering, there are 33 evaluation parameters for intact rock, joint and rock mass, and they are applied in the basic and detailed investigation stages. In this report, uniaxial compressive strength, in-situ stress, joint distribution, and rock mass classification were selected as the main evaluation parameters, and among them, uniaxial compressive strength and in situ stress were selected as key evaluation parameters. Statistical techniques or regression analysis were performed for granite in Wonju and Chuncheon to evaluate the distribution range for the selected key evaluation parameters. The average of the uniaxial compressive strength in the Wonju area estimated through the posterior distribution is about 171 MPa, and about 123 MPa in the Chuncheon area. The maximum in situ stress acting in the Wonju area was less than 30 MPa and less than 40 MPa in the Chuncheon area. The direction of the maximum horizontal stress calculated by regression analysis was 101° in Wonju, and in the case of Chuncheon, it was 95°, respectiviely.

Acute poisoning is one of the diseases which need the most fastest emergency measures at the very beginning. However, at present, The Korea doesn't manage the toxication all over the country, and in particular, there is no guide to medical cure paying due regard to the traits of each area. This paper focused on the issue that the necessary data in preparing the facilities for the treatment of the poisoned patients and materials for medical treatment including antidote would have to be collected, after finding the special features of the symptoms by searching the present conditions of the poisoning in small towns next to farm villages in the North area of Youngseo, Kangwon province. This study was based on the questionnaires from 111 patients who were carried into the emergency room by the poisoning in two university hospitals of the North area of Youngseo, Kangwon, for one year, 2002. Upon investigation, the patients(111) visiting emergency room by the acute poisoning during the research period was found to be 0.37 percent of all patients(30,085) visiting emergency room. Among them, the most high percentage was given in their twenties and thirties at the rate of $39.6\%$, and the ratio($40.5\%$) of the poisoned patients after their fifties was much higher than a research($10\%$) of other areas. Many poisoned patients came to their rescue in an emergency room generally in spring and in winter, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Agricultural chemical of the toxic materials had a majority at a ratio of $57.7\%$, and paraquat of the agricultural chemicals was found to have a lot of toxicity by $31.7\%$. As the trace of the toxication, the oral poisoning was common by $89.2\%$, and $55.9\%$ in the case of operating gastric lavage and nasogastric irrigation, but only $14.4\%$ for prescribing antidote. The mortality of the acute poisoned patients was $17.2\%$, and the toxication by paraquat held a majority. As a result, the acute poisoning of the North area in Youngseo, Kangwon had both of the characteristics of the rural and the city, and the patients over their fifties by the population aging had more attack of the disease than other regions. Also, with the high ratio of the toxication by the agricultural chemicals, especially, the lethal agricultural chemical was used frequently. Therefore, these dangerous situations need to find the ways to cope with.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate performance characteristics. in the success of team attack during volleyball competition. For this, real game was analyzed using S-VHS video camera for three dimensional cinematography. The contents of this research were receive to set time, set to spike time, setter moving distance, ball position during set and attacker's relative ball position during jump and spike, and open area at spike. Among the various kinematical factors considered in this study, the ball height relative spiker and open area were found to be related to offensive performance. This finding implies that although their direct impact were not significant the other factors could have indirect impact on offensive performance by increasing open area. Thus, receiver, setter, assistant attacker, and main attacker should practice for successful performance in each stage. Lastly, it is necessary to develop kinematic variables to evaluate performance characteristics of players. Further study may consider the best defense position against the attack of the opponent player.
Drying grain with conventional artificial drying methods requires great quantities of petroleum fuels. Depletion of fossil fuel increases the need of the utilization of solar energy as an alternative to petroluem fuels for drying grain , an energy intensive agricultural operation. Many techniques for the utilization of solar energy in grain drying have been developed, however, there are many problems in adopting solar energy as an energy sources for drying grain. Futhermore, very little research has been done on solar grain drying in Korea. This study was conducted to evaluate the availability of solar energy for drying of rough rice in Chuncheon, Suweon, and Jinju areas based on 50year meteorological data, and to analyze experimentally the performance of a solar air collector for dying grain, and to find the effects of solar heated air compared to unheated air on the rate of drying and energy consumption required for drying of rough rice. The results of this study was may be summarized as follows ; 1. Monthly average daily total radiation on a horizontal surface in October was 260.6 ly/day for Chuncheon, 240.3 ly/day for Suweon , and 253.4 ly/day for Jinju area, respectively. 2. the ratio of monthly average daily diffuse radiation to daily total radiation on a horizontal surface was approximately 0.41 for Chuncheon, 0.45 for Suweon, and 0.44 for Jinju area, respectively. 3. Although the statistical distribution curves of daily total radiation for the three locations were not identical , the differences among them were not large and may be neglected for many practical purposes. 4. I was estimated that the optimum tilting angle of the collector in October was approximately 46 degrees for Chuncheon and Suweon and 45 degrees for Jinju. 5. The ratio of the total radiation on a optimum tilting plane to that on a horizontal plane was estimated to be 1.36 for Chuncheon, 1.31 for Suweon, and 1.27 for Jinju , respectively. 6. The collection efficiency of the solar air collector ranged from 47. 8 to 51. 5 percent at the air flow rates of 251. 1-372.96 $m^3$/hr. High efficiency remained nearly , constant during the best sunshine hours, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and decreased during other hours. More energy was collected as the air flow rate incresed. 7. The average temperature rise in the drying air from the solar collector for the test period varied from $6.5^\circC$ to $21.8^\circC$ above the ambient air temperature. 8. Solar-dried rough rice averaged 13.7 percent moisture (w.b.) after 130 hours of drying with the air flow rate of 1. 64 ccm/$m^3$, and rough rice dried with natural air averaged 15.1 percent moisture (w.b.) after 325 hours of drying with the same air flow rate. 9. Energy saving of 2.4 kwh per $m^3$ percentage point of moisture removed was obtained from solar heated air drYing. The solar bin used 53.3 percent less energy per percentage point of moisture removed than the natural air bin.

Sand dam is a successful water harvesting method in mountainous areas with ephemeral rivers. The success is dependent on several factors including material type, hydrogeology, slope, riverbed thickness, groundwater recharge, and streamflow. In this study, the effect of a sand dam on the groundwater level in the Chuncheon area, South Korea was assessed using the MODFLOW model. Using the model, multiple scenarios were tested to understand the groundwater head before and after the construction of the sand dam. The effect of groundwater abstraction before and after sand dam construction and the sand material type were also assessed. The results show, the groundwater level increases substantially after the application of a sand dam. The comparison of model outputs, simulated groundwater head before and after sand dam application with and without pumping well, shows a clear difference in the head. The material type has also an effect on the groundwater head. As the conductivity of the material increases, the head showed a significant rise.
