Selection Attributes on Behaviour Intention of Island Tourism : focused on Chuja region (도서 관광지의 선택속성, 서비스 가치, 만족도 및 행동의도 관계 연구: 추자도를 대상으로)

  • The objective of this paper was to analyze the relationships between the factors of selection attributes and the behavior intention focusing on Domestic tourists in Chuja island. This paper utilized the path analysis to investigate the factors of selection attributes affecting the visitors' satisfaction and re-visit intention through service value as mediating factor. This study showed the most important thing among the factors influencing service value in research model was 'uniqueness of island'. Finally, this paper presented that the selection attributes had affected overall satisfaction and re-visit intention through the mediation of service value. In addition, this study calculated total effect including indirect and direct effect of the choice attributes on behavior intention. This result can give the stakeholders related to Chujado island a implication for a better policy of tourism development.

Re-description of Sea Spider Cilunculus armatus (Pycnogonida: Ammotheidae) from Korea

  • The sea spider genus Cilunculus Loman, 1908 comprises 33 species having short chelifores, separate lateral processes, and a hood structure on the cephalic segment. A pycnogonid species, Cilunculus armatus(Böhm, 1879), was collected from Baekdo Island and Chujado Island, Korea. This species is characterized by having a hood structure on the cephalic segment, separate lateral processes, a low ocular tubercle without eyes, and 3-segmented chelifores. In the examined material, chela shape, arrangement of compound spines on strigilis, and number of heel spines at propodus were different from the previous literatures. Here, we examined C. armatus collected in Korean waters and provided illustrations and pictures in detail.

  • An aegid species, Rocinela niponia Richardson, 1909, is a Far Eastern species known from Korean and Japanese waters. In this study, mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) sequences of R. niponia were determined based on four specimens collected from the subtidal zone of Chujado Island, South Korea. We compared DNA barcoding data of this species with its congeners. As a result, there was no intra-specific genetic distance between the four COI sequences of R. niponia. Inter-specific distances between R. niponia and other five aegid species ranged from 23.8% to 35.6%. Morphological diagnosis and images of R. niponia are also provided as a valuable contribution toward the identification of Rocinela species in further taxonomic and ecological studies.

Three species of Choreutidae (Lepidoptera) new to Korea with the first record of Brenthiinae for the country

  • Three species of Choreutidae, Choreutis atrosignata (Christoph, 1888), Choreutis japonica (Zeller, 1877), and Litobrenthia japonica (Issiki, 1930), are reported for the first time from Korea. The records of C. atrosignata and C. japonica are based on two females from Yeongwol, Gangwon Province and from the Island Chujado, Jeju Province, respectively. The latter species was obtained from two larvae collected on the leaves of Ficus erecta (Moraceae). Photographs and data of rearing the larvae are provided. The record of L. japonica was based on two specimens collected from the Islands, Bogildo and Wando, Jeollanam Province. The present data of L. japonica represent the first record of the subfamily Brenthiinae and the genus Litobrenthia from Korea. Distributions of two species C. japonica and L. japonica, previously known only from Japan, now extends to Korea. Habitus and genitalia of the species treated here are briefly described and illustrated, if possible. To sum up, the Korean Choreutidae comprises four genera and 10 species, nine in Choreutinae and one in Brenthiinae.

Report of fern spore-feeding Calicotis latebrifica Terada, 2016 (Lepidoptera, Stathmopodidae) new to Korea

  • A fern spore-feeding stathmopodid species, Calicotis latebrifica Terada, 2016 is reported for the first time from Korea on the basis of one male and three females from Island Chujado, Jeju Province. This record represents the third example of the Korean Lepidoptera associated with fern spores for larval food items. The species is similar to Cuprina fuscella Sinev, 1988 in feeding on fern spores but differs from the latter in the body color and the presence of cilia on the ventral side of antennal flagellum. The genus Calicotis is introduced for the first time to the Korean fauna. Calicotis latebrifica has been known exclusively from Japan before this study. Larval habits for feeding and shelter construction were demonstrated from field observation and rearing in captivity. A new host plant of C. latebrifica, Dryopteris nipponensis Koidz. is recorded. The habitus and genitalia of both sexes are briefly described for C. latebrifica with photographs.

Two New Euryspongian Sponges (Dictyoceratida: Dysideidae) from Korea

  • Two new sponges, Euryspongia coreana n, sp, and E. regularis n, sp., collected from Hataedo, Ulleungdo and Chujado, Korea by SCUBA diving during the period from 2001 to 2005. Euryspongia coreana n. sp, is very close to E. lactea Row, 1911 and E. arenaria Bergquist, 1961 in skeletal structure, but primary and secondary fibres of the new species are thicker than those of E. lactea, E. arenaria is cored with mostly spicule fragments but E. coreana n. sp. is cored with mainly sand. E. regularis n. sp. is readily distinguished from other eurypsongian sponges. by its thickly encrusting growth form, yellowish ivory colour, and thickness of fibres. The bright yellow color and regular ladder-like skeletal structure are major features distinguishing this E. regularis n. sp. from other euryspongian sponges. Most species are brown, violet, red or orange in color except for E. lactea (milky white), E. arenaria (biscuit) and E. coreana n. sp. (yellowish ivory). Other euryspongian sponges have regularly or irregularly well developed secondary fibres, but E. regularis n. sp. has simple and regular secondary fibres.

Identification of Orchid Mycorrhizal Fungi Isolated from Epipactis thunbergii in Korea (닭의난초(Epipactis thunbergii)에 공생하는 난 균근균의 분리 및 동정)

  • In this study, roots of Epipactis thunbergii were collected from Chujado on the north of Jeju-do. Six fungal isolates were isolated from surface-sterilized roots of the orchid and classified with groups based on morphological characteristics. Fungal DNA was extracted from each isolate and amplified ITS region using ITS1-OF/ITS4-OF primer pair. Three species of orchid mycorrhizal fungi were identified as Tulasnella calospora, Tulasnella sp. and Sebacina sp. based on molecular and morphological characteristics.

Species Composition and Biomass of Intertidal Seaweeds in Chuja Island (추자도 조간대 해조류의 종조성과 생물량)

  • The marine benthic algal flora and biomass of Chuja Island, southern coast of Korea, was investigated. The collections of intertidal marine algae were made at two sites, Yecho of Hachujado and Hupo of Sangchujado, from October 2006 to July 2007. A total of 162 species, including 15 green, 47 brown and 100 red algae, were identified in this study. The occurrence of species according to season was abundant during spring to summer and less in autumn. The vertical distribution of intertidal zone in Chujado was characterized by Gloiopeltis spp., Myelophycus simplex, Ishige okamurae, Chondrus ocellatus, Grateloupia elliptica, Hizikia fusiformis and Sargassum spp. The average biomass of macroalgae was measured as 400 g wet wt m$^{-2}$. The dominant species based on the biomass were Sargassum yezoense, S. coreanum and Hizikia fusiformis. ESG II (ecological state group) as an opportunistic species, including sheet form, filamentous form, and coarsely branched form, occurred 85.8% in the intertidal seaweeds. These results provide a baseline for future monitoring studies in the Chuja Island.

A survey of Enterobius vermicularis infection among children on western and southern coastal islands of the Republic of Korea

  • To determine the status of Enterobius vermicularis infection among children living on western and southern coastal islands of the Republic of Korea, children (3-10 years) in 39 kindergartens and primary schools were examined using the cello-tape anal swab method, during July and August 2000. Of 1,661 children examined, $307(18.5\%) $were found to be positive for E. vermicularis eggs. The highest infection rate $(59.3\%)$ was found in a kindergarten and a branch school of Shinyang primary school on Chujado, Jeju-do (Province), Remarkable differences in egg positive rates were observed in different localities. The egg positive rate for boys $(21.3\%)$ was significantly higher than that of girls $(15.4\%)$ (P=0.02). However, positive rates were not significantly dependent on age. The results of the present study show that E. vermicularis infection is highly prevalent among pre-school and primary school children living on the western and southern coastal islands of the Republic of Korea, and indicate the need for efforts to control this infection.

Studies on the Forming Mechanism of The Fishing Ground of Yellow tail, seriola quinqueradiata, in The Adjacent Sea of Jeju Island (제주도 주변해역의 방어어장형성기구에 관한 연구)

  • We studied the fishing ground of a yellowtail and oceanographic conditions around Chujado and Marado around Jeju Island from autumn to winter. Also we investigate the forming mechanism of fishing ground around Marado, which shows the best catch of yellowtail near Jeju island. The obtained results are summarized as follow ; 1. When the high temperature water about 15.0∼19.0 in depth of 50m distributed around Chujado and Marado, the fishing ground of Yellowtail is shows a good catch. On the contrary, when the low temperature water about 11.0∼14.0 is shows a poor catch. 2. Fishing grounds of yellowtail by handline fishing are formed with a school of Yellowtail migrating southward from the coastal sea of Korea and slaying around Marado to winter and spawn due to following factors. Firstly, a front of temperature and salinity is formed between inshore water and oceanic water around Marado. Secondly, small-size eddies and excellent horizontal and vortical mix which is created by strong tide and geographical features including irregular underwater ground and an isolated island. An abundant school of yellow tails stays in front of the tide where a good fishing ground was made.
