  • In this paper, a new type of color coordinate conversion is proposed as modified CIEXYZ from RGB to compress the color gamut. The proposed segmentation includes principal component analysis for the optimal projection of a feature vector into a one-dimensional feature. The final step adopted for lip segmentation is Otsu's threshold for a two-class problem. The performance of the proposed method was better than that of conventional methods, especially for the chromatic feature.

  • Recently, Plastic optical products are widely used. Injection molding process has advantages of low cost and high productivity. However, it remains a residual birefringence and residual stress by difference cooling. The present study focused on measuring birefringence in optical plastic parts using interference color pattern. The main idea of an analysis comes from chromatic aberration which is caused by difference light wavelengths. As a result, a complete system measuring the high order 2-D birefringence pattern was built. Further investigation is under way to improve the accuracy of birefringence measurement system by diode laser.

  • Multi-scaled retinex algorithm is generally used to enhance the local contrast and remove the illuminant component. However, if the chromatic distribution of an original image is not uniform and dominated by a certain chromaticity, the chromaticity of resulting image depends on the dominant chromaticity of the original image, thereby inducing the color distortion. In this paper, a modified multi-scaled retinex method to reduce the influence of the dominant chromaticity in the image is proposed using a average chromaticity of original image and global illuminant chromaticity. In addition, to compensate saturation, the chroma value of the resulting image is enhanced based on that of the original image in the CIELAB space.

  • An f-coloring of a graph G = (V, E) is a coloring of edge set E such that each color appears at each vertex v $\in$ V at most f(v) times. The minimum number of colors needed to f-color G is called the f-chromatic index $\chi'_f(G)$ of G. Any graph G has f-chromatic index equal to ${\Delta}_f(G)\;or\;{\Delta}_f(G)+1,\;where\;{\Delta}_f(G)\;=\;max\{{\lceil}\frac{d(v)}{f(v)}{\rceil}\}$. If $\chi'_f(G)$= ${\Delta}$f(G), then G is of $C_f$ 1 ; otherwise G is of $C_f$ 2. In this paper, the classification problem of complete graphs on f-coloring is solved completely.

  • The viewers primarily watch a television under the surround light source of an incandescent or a fluorescent light. When human visual system has been adapted chromtically under the different surround light, the same chromaticities elicit quite different color appearnaces. Therefore, the corresponding color reproduction is the most suitable objective of a color television system. In this paper, an efficient corresponding color reproduction method based on the chromatic adaptation of human visual system is proposed in which colors in the display have the same appearance as the colors in the original would have had if they had been illuminated by standard illuminant ($D_{65}$). The chromaticities that appeared neutral in human visual system were determined by the Hunt's experimental results of the color adaptation in picture viewing situations and the corresponding chromaticity coordinates of stimuli in chromatic adaptation were obtained by the Bartleson's theory. Also, the corresponding color reproduction is realized by changing the phase and the gain of the demodulation axes in television receiver. Experimental results show that the proposed corresponding color displayed on the television is better than that of the conventional colorimetric color reproduction under the surround light sources.

  • Let f be a function which assigns a positive integer f(v) to each vertex v $\in$ V (G), let r, s and t be non-negative integers. An f-coloring of G is an edge-coloring of G such that each vertex v $\in$ V (G) has at most f(v) incident edges colored with the same color. The minimum number of colors needed to f-color G is called the f-chromatic index of G and denoted by ${\chi}'_f$(G). An [r, s, t; f]-coloring of a graph G is a mapping c from V(G) $\bigcup$ E(G) to the color set C = {0, 1, $\ldots$; k - 1} such that |c($v_i$) - c($v_j$ )| $\geq$ r for every two adjacent vertices $v_i$ and $v_j$, |c($e_i$ - c($e_j$)| $\geq$ s and ${\alpha}(v_i)$ $\leq$ f($v_i$) for all $v_i$ $\in$ V (G), ${\alpha}$ $\in$ C where ${\alpha}(v_i)$ denotes the number of ${\alpha}$-edges incident with the vertex $v_i$ and $e_i$, $e_j$ are edges which are incident with $v_i$ but colored with different colors, |c($e_i$)-c($v_j$)| $\geq$ t for all pairs of incident vertices and edges. The minimum k such that G has an [r, s, t; f]-coloring with k colors is defined as the [r, s, t; f]-chromatic number and denoted by ${\chi}_{r,s,t;f}$ (G). In this paper, we present some general bounds for [r, s, t; f]-coloring firstly. After that, we obtain some important properties under the restriction min{r, s, t} = 0 or min{r, s, t} = 1. Finally, we present some problems for further research.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the interior color characteristics of elderly housing facilities in U. S. A. For this purpose, a field survey was conducted between July 23 and July 31, 2003, visiting 10 elderly housing facilities in Contra Costa County, California. A three step analysis of the facilities involved. First, floor, walls, ceilings, base boards and doors in common spaces were examined for the color scheme using the "Pantone for Fashion and Home Color Guide" for each room. Measured Pantone numbers were converted to RGB color using "Chooser 3.0 of Pantone, Inc." Finally, the conversions were recorded as Munsell numbers. The results are as follows: First, the colors chosen for American elderly housing are high value and low chromatic colors. In many facilities, analogue colors such as BG, B, BP and Y, YR R, RP are used. Second, the colors of ceiling and wall are mainly very bright and low chromatic colors. The colors of floor are undertaking an Important role by generating major atmosphere in the America elderly housing. Third, the colors used for elderly housing are found inter-related. For example, the main color in the lobby is also used from corridor to stair and used again from lounge to dinning room as a secondary color. Fourth, it is found that accent colors are used at the beginning and end of stair and corridor outskirts in consideration of physical condition of elderly people. Fifth, there is no difference in color selection between elderly housing with low and high rental value. Preferably, more versatile colors are being chosen for elderly housing with the low rental value.he low rental value.

  • If we are to analyze certain chromatic phenomena, we must first know what “color” is; we must identify its essential characteristics in an effort to achieve a more rational comprehension of visual phenomena in general. What is difficult for most observers to grasp is that seeing colors is no different than seeing shapes. Indeed, all aspects of the objects in the world surrounding us-shape, size, distance, movement, as well as color--are seen via our perceptual system. (omitted)
