The reproduction toxicity of several pesticides on two Korean water flea was investigated to develop a new standard species used for ecological risk assessment of pesticide. Moina macrocopa and Daphnia sp. were exposed to 4 different types of pesticides over 10 and 21 days, respectively. No-ohserved effect concentration (NOEC) for synthetic pyrethroid, fenpropathrin on Moina macrocopa and Daphnia sp. were 0.17 and $0.06\;{\mu}g\;L^{-1}$, respectively. Diazinon, carbofuran and myclobutanil were in the order of their reproduction toxicity to cladocerans tested. There were large differences between Moina macrocopa and Daphnia sp. in their susceptibility to fenpropathrin, diazinon and carbofuran except myclobutanil. Daphnia sp. is more sensitive than M. macrocopa to pesticides tested. Therefore Daphnia sp. may be a good surrogate species to assess the reproduction effect of pesticides on aquatic invertebrates. M. macrocopa also be a good surrogate species because it is one of the most abundant cladocera in agricultural environment, especially rice paddy in Korea. In addition to it's ecological importance of wide spread distribution, it has also economical importance to make possible to shorten period for reproduction test using M. macrocopa due to it's short life cycle.
The acute toxicity of several pesticides on 4 Korean water flea was investigated to develop a new standard species used for ecological risk assessment of pesticide. Four Korean freshwater cladocerans, Daphnia obtusa, Daphnia sp., Moina macrocopa and Simocepholus vetulus were exposed to five different pesticides during 48 hours to compare their sensitivity with a standard test species, Daphnia magna, endorsed formally by the major international organizations. The synthetic pyrethroid, fenpropathrin was the most toxic pesticide to cladocerans. Diazinon, carbofuran, iprodione and myclobutanil were in the order of their toxicity to cladocerans tested. There was no consistent difference in sensitivity to five pesticides for four Korean cladocerans tested. In conclusion, the ecological risk assessment using single species toxicity referred to base set data should not be enough to protect to every species in the field environment.

The purpose of this study is to identify the status of the science museum reflected in the exhibition, and develop and apply Nature of Science(NOS) education programs based on the science museum exhibition. The analyse tool was developed to understand the NOS in the science museum. The researchers recognized the nature of science reflected in four exhibition halls in Korea. Based on the analysis, we developed the NOS education program. NOS education programs were developed and applied to supplement the NOS that appears to be limited to scientific exhibitions based on the prior analysis of science exhibition. The results of the study were as follows. First, we analyzed the nature of science reflected in the exhibition of two main science museums, and it was mostly implicit and most were to understand the relationship among STS(Science-Technology-Society). And also we analyzed the NOS reflected in the exhibition of two national history museum, and it was also mostly implicit and most were about the way of how to find out the knowledge, inference. Second, in order to supplement the NOS of the science museum, we developed the NOS education program based on the exhibits. After applying it to the science museum, we conducted a qualitative study. As a result, there was a positive change only in the aspects of NOS (science is tentative, science is from creativity and imaginative, science is the produce of social and culture, science is from the scientific method) that reflected explicitly. The conclusions derived from this study are as follows : For the cultivation of science in the scientific museum, various factors are needed depending on the theme of the science museum. Also, it is helpful to actively implement the NOS educational programs that utilize the exhibit. Therefore, the exhibit planners' and developers' competencies are critical to develop explicit NOS education programs in its expertise.

The purpose of this study was to develop computational thinking (CT) analysis tool that can be used to analyze CT practices; first, by defining what CT practices are, and then, by identifying which components of CT are reflected in STEAM classes. Exploring various kinds of CT practices, which can be identified while applying the proposed CT analysis tool for exemplary STEAM classes, is another goal of this study. Firstly, to answer the question of "What is CT in science education" and thereby to develop the proposed CT practice analysis tool, three types of published documents about CT definition as the main data in this study have been considered. In the first "analysis tool development" part of this study, the following five elements have been identified as the main components of CT analysis tool as follows; (1) connecting open problems with computing, (2) using tools or computers to develop computing artifact, (3) abstraction process, (4) analyzing and evaluating computing process and artifact, and (5) communicating and cooperating. Based on the understandings that there is a consistent flow among the five components due to their interactions, a flow chart of CT practice has also been developed. In the second part of this study, which is an implementation study, the proposed CT practice analysis tool has been applied in one exemplary STEAM program. To select the candidate STEAM program, four selection criteria have been identified. Then, the proposed CT practice analysis tool has been applied for the selected STEAM program to determine the degree of CT practice reflected in the program and furthermore, to suggest a way of improving the proposed CT analysis tool if it shows some weak points. Through the findings of this study, we suggest that the actual definition of computational thinking will be helpful to converge Technology and Engineering to STEAM education and a strong complement to reinforce STEAM education.

In order for the science museum to play a role as a foundation for strengthening the national creative capability, which is the core of the advanced national development paradigm, it is important to gather the capacities of the nation's science museums and establish a platform to cooperate in a shared value system. Science museum is an independent operating system, and there is a lack of strong connections among national, public and private science museums. The existing integrated collaboration system of science museums-centered can be studied first and promoted to develop programs for the free school year according to a specific topic. The same system of science museum-inclusion which link local cultural institutions or cultural places as science culture program were also studied to do the same purpose. On the basis of problems drawn from studies of integrated collaboration systems of each participating science museum, we proposed a convergence integrated collaboration systems of science museum-centered and science museum-inclusion. To this end, data were collected from practitioners of 7 representing science museums including 5 national ones. In order to suggest improvements, we also contacted five international science museums to collect the exemplary cases. Considering the regional characteristics, science museum-inclusion integrated collaboration systems considering the cultural characteristics and the science museum-centered integrated collaboration systems for free school semesters, were developed and tried by practitioners who participated in this research. It was found that integrated collaboration system can be more activated for the community. This suggests that support from the national level or at the level of regional autonomy is essential and the connection with the curriculum is necessary for the integrated collaboration system program. Finally, professional experts such as program development or commentator can be a decisive role.

The purpose of this study is to provide basic information for a future countermeasure municipal and to establish several wastes policy after investigating solid wastes from Sunchon City. In addition, this research can be supported to manage of recycling plant and to reuse plant of each wastes. Results are as bellows after checking up and analysis type of waste in Sunchon city Unit solid waste generation rate from single family is $0.50kg/person{\cdot}day$, and total solid wastes are 41.9ton/day. Unit solid waste generation rate from apartments is $0.45kg/person{\cdot}day$, and solid wastes generation is 55.5ton/day. Unit solid waste generation rate from agricultural is $0.22kg/person{\cdot}day$ and total solid wastes are 13.5ton/day. That show total amount of municipal solid wastes from residential are 110.9ton/day. Unit solid waste generation rate from traditional markets is $1.85kg/person{\cdot}day$, and solid waste total volume is 5,400kg/day. Unit solid waste generation rate from small store is $2.03kg/person{\cdot}day$, and solid waste total are 25,101kg/day. Therefore, this show that total wastes are 30.50kg from downtown and commercial area. Solid waste quantity from Industrial area (Factory region) is 8.5ton and in case of school and hospitals are 7.2kg/day and 3.0kg/day. Solid waste amount from Institutional is 6.6kg/day. Food wastes were eliminated from municipal solid wastes as standard 63.4ton/day, and combustible wastes were 126.9ton/day. If it schedule about 5 years (by 2006) as durable year for food wastes treatment plant, it is expected 42.5ton/day for treatment capacity. We can judge that it is effective to be set 2 lines equipment ${\times}25ton/day$ as treatment ability under considering unexpected working condition such as any repair, trouble and an electrical load. If it schedule about 10 years (by 2011) as durable year for food wastes treatment plant, it is expected 150 ton/day for treatment capacity. We can conclude that it is effective to be set 2 lines equipment ${\times}80ton/day$ as treatment ability under considering working condition such as low loaded operating and the repair for incineration.

To know the differences in ionic compositions in rain and snow as well as snow influence on the chemical characteristics of winter precipitation, precipitation samples were collected by the wet-only automatic precipitation sample, in winter(November-February) in the Iksan located in the northwest of Chonbuk from 1995 to 2000. The samples were analyzed for concentrations of water-soluble ion species, in addition to pH and electrical conductivity. The mean pH of winter precipitation was 4.72. According to the type of winter precipitation, the mean pH of rain was 4.67 and lower than 5.05 in snow. The frequencies of pH below 5.0 in rain were about 73%, while those in snow were about 30%. Snow contained 3 times higher concentrations of sea salt ion components originated from seawater than did rain in winter, mainly $Cl^-,\;Na^+$, and $Mg^{2+}$. Neglecting sea salt ion components, $nss-SO_4^{2-}$ and $NO_3^-$ were important anions and $NH_4^+$ and $nss-Ca^{2+}$ were important cations in both of rain and snow. Concentrations of $nss-SO_4^{2-}$ was 1.3 times higher in rain than in snow, while those of $nss-Ca^{2+}$ and $NO_3^-$ were 1.5 and 1.3 times higher in snow, respectively. The mean equivalent concentration ratio of $nss-SO_4^{2-}/NO_3^-$ in winter precipitation were 2.4, which implied that the relative contribution of sulfuric and nitric acids to the precipitation acidity was 71% and 29%, respectively. The ratio in rain was 2.7 and higher than 1.5 in snow. These results suggest that the difference of $NO_3^-$ in rain and snow could be due to the more effective scavenging of $HNO_3$ vapor than particulate sulfate or nitrate by snow. The lower ratio in snow than rain is consistent with the measurement results of foreign other investigators and with scavenging theory of atmospheric aerosols. Although substantial $nss-SO_4^{2-}$ and $NO_3^-$ were observed in both of rain and snow, the corresponding presence of $NH_4^+,\;nss-Ca^{2+},\;nss-K^+$ suggested the significant neutralization of rain and snow. Differences in chemical composition of non-sea salt ions and neutralizing rapacity of $NH_4^+,\;nss-Ca^{2+}$, and $nss-K^+$ between rain and snow could explain the acidity difference of rain and snow. Snow affected that winter precipitation could be less acidic due to its higher neutralizing rapacity.

This paper gives some basic requirements and preferences of various geological environmental conditions for the final deep geological repository of spent nuclear fuel (SNF). This study also indicates how the requirements and preferences are to be considered prior to the selection of sites for a site investigation as well as the final disposal in Korea. The results of the study are based on the knowledge and experience from the IAEA and NEA/OECD as well as the advanced countries in SNF disposal project. This study discusses and suggests preliminary guideline of the disposal requirements including geological, mechanical, thermal, hydrogeological, chemical and transport properties of host rock with long term geological stabilities which influence the functions of a multi-barrier disposal system. To apply and determine whether requirements and preferences for a given parameter are satisfied at different stages during a site selection and suitability assessment of a final disposal site, the quantitative criteria in each area should be formulated with credibility through relevant research and development efforts for the deep geological environment during the site screening and selection processes as well as specific studies such as productions of safety cases and validation studies using a generic underground research laboratory (URL) in Korea.

The aim of this study was to assess the association of metabolic syndrome, metabolic syndrome score (MSS) and pulse pressure (PP) in Korean adults. The study subjects were Korean adults 20 years or older (n=5,889) who participated in the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2012. After adjusting for factors, such as year and gender and BMI, the mean PP increased with increasing MSS (MSS 0, $41.30{\pm}0.34mmHg$ and MSS 1, $42.16{\pm}0.31mmHg$ and MSS 2, $44.73{\pm}0.34mmHg$ and MSS, 3, $46.46{\pm}0.42mmHg$ and MSS 4, $48.62{\pm}0.58mmHg$ and MSS 5, $53.50{\pm}1.05mmHg$), and the mean PP for metabolic syndrome($47.25{\pm}0.34mmHg$) increased in comparison to Non-Metabolic syndrome ($42.77{\pm}0.19mmHg$). When logistic regression analysis was performed, the odds ratio (OR) of Hyper-PP (61> PP) for MSS 0 was 4.49 in MSS 1 (95% confidence interval[CI], 2.68-7.57) and 8.01 in MSS 2 (95% CI, 4.77-13.47) and 11.37 in MSS 3 (95% CI, 6.67-19.35) and 19.69 in MSS 4 (95% CI, 11.20-34.60) and 34.07 in MSS 5 (95% CI, 17.44-66.52), metabolic syndrome was associated with an increased Hyper-PP(OR 4.6, 95% CI, 2.0-10.4). Conclusion. These results suggest that an increase in MSS or metabolic syndrome might increase the pulse pressure.
In Korea, nation and nationalism are undeniable justice, absolute virtue and moreover system of desire. From the late Chosun Dynasty when the Korean Peninsula had to survive from the critical situation of being the arena of competition, and through the colonial period under Japanese imperialism, nationalism became stronger as a logic of survival. The policy of seclusion under closed and exclusive nationalism that didn't recognize the world situation well enough, eventually gave more pain to the nation. Nationalism in colonial Korea which was as reformed nationalism and on the other hand, as intransigent, resisting nationalism. Since the purpose of this writing is not for clarifying the argument raised on Korean nationalism, there is no use mentioning how it went with the change of time. But we have to focus on the fact that the word 'nation' which appeared under the influence of popular revolution and capitalism meaning 'a group of people', was translated and understood as a racial concept for strengthening the unity of 'single-race nation with five thousand years' history. First of all, there is nationalism used to fortify the system. 'The Charter of National Education' and 'The Pledge of Allegiance' were ornaments to intensify the ruling ideology and dictatorship to militarize entire South Korea for 'settling Korean democracy' professed nationalism. Also, another ruling ideology armed with 'self-reliance' put North Korea into the state of hypnosis called nationalism. Nationalism, claiming 'nation' outwardly, but in reality, being an illuminating, instructing ideology isolating each other was indeed a body with two faces. This made 'nation' in Korea mysterious and objective through work such as. The statue commemorating patriotic forefathers' and picture of national records' in South Korea art. Nationalism used to strengthening the system encountered the magical 'single-race' and made 'ghost' being an extreme exclusion to other nations. We can find pedigreed pureness not allowing any mixed breeds from the attitude accepting western art -via Japan or directly- and making it vague by using the word Korean and Asia. There's nationalism as a resistant ideology to solidify the system on the other side. It came out as a way of survival among the Great Power and grew with the task of national liberation to became as a powerful force facing against the dictatorship dominating South Korea after the liberation. This discussion of nationalism as a resistance ideology was active in 1980s. In 1980, democracy movement against the dictatorship of 5th Republic originated from military power which came out suppressing the democratic movement in Gwangju, spread out from the intellects and the students to the labors, farmers and the civilians. It is well known that the 'Nation-People(Minjoong)'s Art Movement could come out under this social condition. Our attitude toward nationalism is still dual in this opening part of 21st century. On one hand, they are opposing to the ultra-nationalism but are not able to separate it from nationalism, and on the other, they have much confusion using it. In fact, in a single-race nation like Korea, the situation of being nationalism and jus sanguinis together can cause dual nationalism. Though nationalism is included in the globalization order, it is evidence that it's effective in Korea where there are still modern fetters like division and separation. In particular, in the world where Japan makes East Asia Coalition but exposed in front of nationalism, and China not being free from Sinocentrism, and American nationalism taking the world order, and Russia fortifying nationalism suppressing the minority race after the dissolution of socialism, Korean nationalism is at the point to find an alternative plan superior to the ruling and resisting ideology.
