Two nursing associations were very different in their members and activities. Choseon Ganhoboohoi was organized and lead by Western missionary nurses in Korea and their Korean pupil nurses. The aim of Choseon Ganhoboohoi was to become a member of ICN. Choseon Ganhoboohoi united with the Western Graduate nurses' Association in Korea, tried to raise the standard of nursing education, and became a branch of Japan Imperial Nurses' Association. All was to become a member of ICN. It continued 15 years and was quite active. But after the half of 1930s Japan's ruling policy became more and more suppressive and western missionaries were expelled from Korea so it could not but discontinue it's activities. Choseon Ganhoboohoiphoi(朝鮮觸護續協會) was organized and lead by Korean nurses. The aim of it was to do the role of nurses by social activities. So it tried health education for the public, It continued only about 2 years, But the leaders of Choseon Ganhoboohoiphoi moved to women's liberation movement and Korean liberation movement and tried to solve the problems of colonized women. The organizations and activities of Choseon Ganhoboohoi and Choseon Ganhoboohoi were two trends to develop Korean nursing during Japaneses Colonial period. The former asked for international cognizance by the raise of nursing standard, and the latter asked for national cognizance by social activities. Although two nurses' associations were different in their ways but quite same in the aspect that both tried for the development of nursing in Korea. But the colonial situation prevented them from continuing their activities. This means that the colonial situation of national level influenced deeply on the development of nursing profession.

  • We arrange Korean ancient calendar with Solar calendar during Choseon Dynasty(A.D. 1392-1910). In this period, we have one representable history books and several books, and most of information for date are found from them, ChoseonWangjosillok(조선왕조실록) and Jeungbomunheonbigo(증보문헌비고), etc. In those books many astronomical data and calendar information data are contained, so we can make chronological tables. Most of the data are arranged based on those several books, and for doubtable data are identified from eclipse, historical events and lunar phase calculations etc. We find that arranged chronological tables during Choseon Dynasty are similar to that of China and somewhat different from that of Japan. In addition we summarize all misrecorded date data in ChoseonWangjosillok

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the roles and costume of Sodong as shown in the illustration of Choseon Delegation to Japan. Results of the study can be described as below. First, as shown in the illustration, Sodong played roles as Tongin and dancer. As Tongin, Sodong provided services or made errands for his seniors. In the other role, while, Sodong danced to comfort his seniors and show dances of Choseon to Japanese people. Second, Sodong wore Kwaecha over Sochangeui throughout his march with the delegation as Tongin. This is probably because the two clothes made him feel convenient and easily active. In both 1700s and 1800s, meanwhile, Sodong also wore Jikryeong and Cheolik. Third, Sodong wore Kwaecha over Sochangeui, or Danryeong and Nansam all the time when he navigated together with the delegation. When passing through Tsusima into the Japanese mainland, which meant starting international exchanges between Choseon and Japan, Sodong sticked to formality to the utmost by wearing Danryeong and Nansam. Fourth, Sodong wore Kwaecha over Sochangeui when he performed as dancer. The two clothes were also worn by Mudong during outdoor banquets in Choseon at that time. In addition, it is thought that Sodong wore Jikryeong, Danryeong and Nansam like when he marched or navigated together with Choseon Delegation.

  • This study examines the construction method of lime tomb of royal tombs in the Choseon Dynasty based on reference. This was primarily published as "The Five Manners and Courtesy of the Annals of Sejong" as examples, which were followed by the influence of Koryo's culture in the beginning foundation of Choseon, were organized in the time of Sejong; and later, in the time of Sungjong, "The National Five Manners and Courtes y" was published. Such old reference explains the stone materials and construction method of the royal tomb's pit yet there were not many studies regarding the pit of royal tomb in the Choseon Dynasty. And there exists no historical research or reference study in regard to the pit of royal tomb which is formed as a lime tomb. This is believed to be impossible to excavate the royal tomb since ancestral ritual formalities are still given by the descendants and because of our country's culture of giving ancestral ritual formalities which value formalities and filial duty. However, the current excavation of Guhui Tomb, which was the early burial site, was important since it gives an opportunity to look at the shape and structure of lime tombs in the Choseon Dynasty. Thus, this study, based on the excavation of Guhui Tomb, will look into the construction method of the pit of lime tomb and will examine the structure, shape, construction method, etc. of the lime tomb which was formed after the time of Sejo in a way with reference history. This is an important data to learn the construction method of limb tomb of royal tombs in the Choseon Dynasty and is believed to have a very important value as historical materials as to understanding the structure of the pit of royal tombs in the Choseon Dynasty which yet has not been excavated.

During his period, situations were worsened in both domestic and foreign affairs. In the end, after 3 years from abdication of the throne, the Choseon Dynasty was overthrown in compliance with a coercion by Japanese empire. He died in 68 years old. We can assume that his inveterate disease are weakness of the spleen and the stomach. In addition, he suffered from a boil, a cold, dermatosis, eye disease, an external wound, dentistry disease, arthritis, etc. The official cause of his death was cerebral hemorrhage. But we assume that the possibility of poison murdering is high.

  • The KAMYOUNG is the supreme local government office in CHOSEON dynasty. This study aims to propose the new methodology on research of local government office's prototype in CHOSEON dynasty. Especially this study is the zoning plan of the KAMYOUNG in the late CHOSEON dynasty, It is meant to present the first trial that pursue to total frame of local government in CHOSEON dynasty through the new methodology. The 18th century is the transitional era when the system of norm was deconstructed. The institution and organization of the supreme lacal government office(KAMYOUNG) was united nationwidely and at the same time its deconstruction was carried out in the 18th century. The domain of the governer has fixed in the 18th century, though the scale of 街e KAMYOUNG was enlarged. These domain expressed a strong symbolization according to hierarchy in exterior appearance of the traditional architecture. With the entire execution of a local government coming soon, the concerns about the localization have been increased rapidly. Under this time situation, as the discussion centered on the creation or change of the local self-governing community, so the concerns regarding the traditional aspects of a local government office have been increasing. Hower, without the recognition of this history, as the research of these existing historical materials has been progressed, so the misunderstanding is still left. Especially, because the government office of CHOSEON is a Confucian nation thinking much of a hierarchy based on Yae - Jae, the hierarchy of this architecture has a deep correlation with the organization of an office. The method of this study is like following: Firstly, prescribed characteristic of KAMYOUNG tough syudys of hierarchy in a local government system, human and material composition. secondly, as the changing progress of KAMYOUNG is compared and analyzed with organization of an office in the center. So characteristics of KAMYOUNG are abstracted. And finally, from this, the interpretation methodology of KAMYOUNG is revealed, with a deep correlation between specific characters of organization and architectural structurals. And also, with these methodologies, the interpretation method of the local government office and normative frame in CHOSEON dynasty are suggested.

  • [Go-Choseon], the first volume of Samgukyusa, is composed of two parts, the part of myth and that of history. There are very similar divinities between Hwanwoong in the myth of Dangun and YanDi-ShenNong of China: the solar divinity essential for survival of mankind and agriculture, the agriculture divinity said to have taught fanning, the medicine divinity said to have taught the characteristics of herbs and how to prevent diseases, the cultural hero who delivered civilization, and son on. During the transition from the age of myth to the age of history, the roles of gods had changed from the creation of the world to civilization and rule. The roles of Hwanwoong and YanDi-ShenNong were civilization and it was related with their divinities. Hence, regardless of a little difference, the myth of Hwanwoong and that of YanDi-ShenNong were created at the same stage of spiritual and material civilizations of Korea and China. This paper looks at the essence of [Wiseo] and the age of Hwanwoong through historical records. In my opinion, [Wiseo] is not a chinese history' book. The record, "According to [Wiseo] there had been Dangun-Wanggum 2,000 years ago" indicates the time [Wiseo] was written. 'Wi' means Wlman-choseon. Going back about 2,000 years from Wiman-choseon, the historical dates of the establishment of [Go-Choseon] almost dovetails to the age of King 'lao. So, there is a possibility that [Wiseo] is a history book of Wiman-Choseon dynasty which was written to prove the legitimacy of the dynasty by showing it succeeded to the Dangilll-Choseon dynasty. The sentences, "governed the country for 1,500 years" and "conferred Gija the position of king of Choseon" are very important records showing the age of the establishment of Dangun-Choseon. Gija came to Choseon in B.C 1122 when Yin replaced Zhou in the Choinese Continent. From the fact that Dangun had governed Choseon, we could reason out that Go-Choseon was established in B.C. 2622 that is much eariler than the era of king Yao, and that corresponds 'With the era of HuangDi(B.C 2698-2358). Hence, the era of Hwanwoong, the father-god of Dangun, might be later than B.G 3000 which conforms to the era of YanDi-ShenNong(B.C 3218-2600). Therefore, this paper contends lhat Hwanwoong and YanDi-ShenNong played the role of civilization in the same era [Go-Choseon], the first volume of Samgukusa is philologically very valuable material for research on the origin of Korean nation and its ancient history.

  • This study is designed for examining the names of men's and women's clothing of Choseon period, which can be divided into the upper, the lower, and the outer garments based on yu유, go고, po포 from the early period. Furthermore, amongst these various garments, this study shall define some kinds of clothing, which is shared its name and its use by both men and women, as the unisex clothing. Lastly we analyzed the special characteristics of this unisex clothing. With the names of clothing in Choseon period, we could understand about the difference of clothing's development by the names for the upper, lower, and outer garments as gender. And we also found the names for the unisex clothing in that period. The names of unisex clothing in Choseon period can roughly be divided into three garments; the upper, the lower, and the outer. Each category can also be subdivided into tku: i. e. the upper garments into jeogori저고리, hansam한삼, sama 삼아, jeoksam적삼, donguidae동의대, and godo고도; the lower garments into go고, gonja고자, and baji[paji파지, pachi파저]; and the outer garments into jangui장의, baeja배자, and juui주의. Furthermore, we can recognize that the shapes and uses of clothes in that period had been represented differently between the men's and women's.
