  • Objectives This study was to investigate the correlation of low back pain, stress by event, and fear-avoidance beliefs caused by traffic accident. Methods We investigated 103 cases of out-patient with traffic accident. The patients answered that Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Impact of Event Scale Revised Korean Version (IES-R-K), and Fear-Avoidance Beliefs Questionnaire (FABQ) on the first medical examination. We calculated statistical significance with this data. Results VAS, IES-R-K, and FABQ scores of the female patients with the traffic accident were higher than the male patients. VAS, IES-R-K, and FABQ scores showed low significant positive correlation and showed partial correlation between IES-R-K and FABQ, controlled by VAS, had no statistical significance in this research. Conclusions More considerations on pain, stress by event, and fear avoidance belief should be needed in treatment of the traffic accident patients.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this case series is to investigate and report the effectiveness of oriental medicine treatment and Hominis placenta pharmacopuncture treatment for supraspinatus tendinosis and subdeltoid bursitis. Methods : 4 patients are admitted at Dept. of Oriental Rehabilitation Medicine, Bu-Cheon Jaseng Oriental Medicine Hospital, diagnosed as supraspinatus tendinosis and subdeltoid bursitis and treated with oriental medicine treatment and Hominis placenta pharmacopuncture. Each case is measured and assessed daily by NRS(Numeric Rating Scale) score and shoulder physical exam. Results : After treatment, patients' shoulder pain are decreased and they showed nearly full ROM(range of movement). In patients with supraspinatus tendinosis and subdeltoid bursitis, oriental medicine treatment and Hominis placenta is good method for pain relief and better movement. Conclusions : As seen in these 4 cases of supraspinatus tendinosis and subdeltoid bursitis, oriental medicine treatment and Hominis placenta pharmacopuncture appears to be effective.

  • Objective : In the pain control, BU herbal acupuncture is highly effective but causes many phys ical reactions. This study was done to compare BU with BU mixed Hwangryunhaedoktang(HHT, 黃連解毒湯) herbal acupucture in decreasing physical reactions of BU. Methods : We injected BU Group(N=12) and BU mixed HHT Group(N=12) at four points of Fenmen(B12), Feishu(B13), Fufen(B41) and Pohu(B42). Then we observe the local thermal changes and the physical reactions at beginning, 1hour and 24 hours after administering herbal acupuncture through the D.I.T.I. and survey. Results : The following results were obtained; 1. The significant dermatothermal difference had been checked 1hour and 24hours in BU group, but 1hour in Bu mixed HHT. 2. In BU group, the difference of temperature had been continued highly until 24hours. But in BU mixed group, the difference of temperature had been continued highly until 1 hour but decreased nearly equal to beginning stage until 24hours. 3. The symptoms which appear following the herbal acupuncture administration were less appeared in BU mixed HHT than BU group.

  • Objectives: The present study examines the domestic trend of Chuna manual therapy on cervical spinal disorders in Korea. Methods: We investigated the studies on Chuna manual therapy for cervical spinal disorders via searching 6 Korean web databases. As a result, 51 research papers were found to be analyzed according to their published year, published institution, the titles of journals, the types of study, the techniques of Chuna, the instruments for assessment, the Chuna technique and the number of the treatment trials by the cases of cervical spinal disorders and ethical approvals. Results: The number of the research papers published tended to increase every year. The studies on Chuna manual therapy for cervical spinal disorders were mainly published in The Journal of Korea CHUNA Manual Medicine for Spine & Nerves. The most frequently adopted technique of Chuna in the examined studies was Chuna spine manipulation therapy - cervical spine technique. Visual analogue scale (VAS), neck disability index(NDI) were used as primary means of assessments. The ethical problems of the examined studies needed to be improved. Conclusions: Reviewing the domestic trend of studies on Chuna manual therapy for cervical spinal disorders and examining the strong and weak points of those treatments are essential for the future studies. It is anticipated that this review benefits the future in-depth study on the treatments for Chuna in Korean medicine.
