The oral health awareness and behavior of sanitation workers in Jeonju (전주시 환경미화원의 구강보건의식 및 행동)

  • Objectives : The purpose of the study is to obtain the basic data for an industrial oral health project enhancing the quality of life and oral health. Methods : Questionnaire consisted of 17 questions including 7 questions of general characteristics, 5 questions of oral health awareness, and 5 questions of the behavior of oral health. A self-reported questionnaire was carried out from September 1 to September 28, 2012, The subjects were 400 male and female sanitation workers in private corporations in Jeonju. A total of 354 questionnaires were analyzed using SPSS windows ver. 12.0 (SPSS Inc. Korea). Results : The majority of the subjects were male in 50's. Temporary contract workers are older aged and 2 to 5 years of career workers were the majority of the cleaners. Average monthly income was less than 2 million Korean Won. Those who had a higher academic background and permanent position tended to have oral health knowledge (p<0.05). Female workers had healthier subjective oral health status than male workers. Those who were in older age, single, temporary position, and 2 to 5 years of career tended to have healthier subjective oral health status (p<0.05). Those who were in older age, married, and long period of employment were worrying about their health (p<0.05). The subjective oral health knowledge was high in 49.7% of the workers because they were not able to brush teeth during work hours. They were able to brush their teeth only after dinner. It was low in female and older aged workers (p<0.05). The brushing method included a combination of top to bottom and from the side to side. Conclusions : This study showed the influencing factor of oral health in street workers. Work environment, education, age, monthly income, and types of employment were the important factors to oral health care. It is necessary to provide the right oral health care program for the workers in the near future.

Maturation and Spawning of the Filefish Thamnaconus modestus in Coastal Waters of Korea (말쥐치(Thamnaconus modestus)의 성숙과 산란)

  • Filefish Thamnaconus modestus has seen a sharp decline in their catch, we must strive for continuous resource management. We investigated the maturation and spawning of T. modestus by trawl net and set net from January 2018 to November 2019, off Jeju Is. and in coastal waters of North Gyeongsang Province's Korea. We analyzed monthly change total length (cm), gonadosomatic index (GSI) and maturity stages, egg diameter (mm), the relations fecundity and total length. GSI for Jeju Is. was the highest in April (3.17, 2.43), and decreased from July to 1.73 in August and GyeongBuk's GSI was the highest in Apri l (1.86, 2.58), followed by the high in May and the sharp decline in September, which is 0.23. Using a histological method, the annual reproductive cycle of T. modestus can be divided into 5stage in females; the early growing stage (Jan.-Mar.), late growing stage (Apr.-May), Mature stage, spent stage (Oct.), Recover and resting stage (Nov.-Jan.).We estimate the TL at 50% maturity as 24.1cm for female, fecundity ranged from 560,044 eggs at 23.4cm total length to 1,580,387 eggs at 36.6.cm TL.

Effects of Atractylodes lancea on Plasma Glucose and Lipid Profile in Streptozotocin Induced Diabetic Rats (창출(Atractylodes lancea) 추출물의 투여가 당뇨 유발 흰쥐의 혈당과 지질수준에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of Atractylodes lancea (A.l.) in a dose-dependent manner on lipid levels and plasma glucose in diabetic rats induced with streptozotocin (STZ). The Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly classified into five groups: normal, STZ-control and three experimental groups [A.l.-1, diabetic treated with ethanolic extract of A.l. (1 g/kg b.w.), A.l.-2, diabetic administered with ethanolic extract of A.l. (2 g/kg b.w.), and A.l.-3, diabetic administered with ethanolic extract of A.l. (3 g/kg b.w.)]. The normal and STZ-control group were fed an AIN-93 diet and the three experimental groups were administered with A.l. extract at doses of 1, 2, and 3 g/kg b.w./day, respectively, for 14 days. The plasma glucose levels in all the experimental groups were significantly lower than the STZ-control group after 14 days of treatment. The total cholesterol of the A.l.-3 and triglyceride levels, atherogenic index (AI) of all three experimental groups were significantly lower than the STZ-control group. The ALT and AST activities at A.l.-2, A.l.-3 were significantly lower than the STZ-control group. This result that demonstrate the administration of Atractylodes lancea can reduce hyperglycemia and hyperlipidemia risk in diabetic rats.

Discordant Rate of Simultaneous Duplicate Throat Swab Culture for Discovering Beta-hemolytic Streptococcal Carrier from Normal School Children (초등학생의 베타용혈성 연쇄구균 보균자 검출에 있어서 인두부 중복배양(duplicate throat culture)의 유용성)

  • Purpose : The most patients with acute streptococcal pharyngitis lack of classic clinical manifestations, therefore diagnostic laboratory test such as the throat culture or a rapid antigen detection test are frequently employed in primary practices of developed countries. We'd like to know the accuracy of the throat swab culture as gold standard for diagnosis of streptococcal infection with studying the discordant and concordant rate of duplicate culture. Methods : The study included 89 normal school children (boys:50, girls:39) who were attending Uljin primary school in Uljin, Kyong Sang Buk Do on March 1996. We obtained simultaneous 2 times of throat swab from each subject, and plating and streaking on 5-7% of sheep blood agar separately. We counted the characteristic beta-hemolytic colonies after overnight incubation. Results : 1) The carrier rate of beta-hemolytic streptococci at first culture is 25.1% and second one is 29.2%. 2) Ten out of 89(11.2%) is discordant in duplicate culture. 3) Culture containing less than 50 colonies of beta-hemolytic streptococci (+2) in first culture is 70.4%, second one is 85.7%. 4) Number of colonies is less than 50 in all ten discordant children. Conclusions : The discordant rate of duplicate throat swab cullture for beta-hemolytic streptococci is 11.2%, even if the subjects are normal school children. About 5% of individuals harboring beta-hemolytic streptococci in the pharynx may be missed by a single throat culture. If we are trying to examine the patients with pharyngitis, the discordant rate will be much lower than this results.

Solubilization of Tofu-Residue Using Multienzyme Derived from Aspergillus niger CF-34 (Aspergillus niger CF-34 효소를 이용한 두부 또는 두유비지의 가용화)

  • Solubilization of plant ceil wall(tofu-residue) using enzyme complex obtained by Aspergillus niger CF-34 was attempted. The hydrolysis reaction was done at pH 4.0, $50^{\circ}C$, which were optimum pH and temperature of the enzyme, respectively. At the enzyme dosage of 2.5% (in terms of solid content of tofu-residue) and reaction time of 3 hr, the solubilizing percent of protein and carbohydrate were 62% and 50% respectively. Homogenization prior to enzyme reaction did not have much effect on tofu-residue solubilization. To improve solubility of tofu-residue, additional treatment such as alkali with 0.1% NaOH solution was found to be useful. The results showed that tofu-residue, which mainly consists of cell wall component of cellulose and hemicellulose, was not accessible to enzyme reaction and some prior treatment is required to enhance enzyme hydrolysis.

  • Purpose : The aim of this study was to analyze the duties of physical therapists by developing a curriculum( DACUM) method, and to present the frequency, importance and difficulty of the main duties and tasks currently conducted in Korea. Methods : The definition of physical therapists and job description was developed based on DACUM. In order to achieve this analysis, a DACUM workshop, and a survey was conducted on 524 Korean physical therapists working in the whole country 84 areas in order to analyze the order of priority for all tasks. Results : This study defined the task of physical therapists and five kinds of duties were identified : diagnosis and evaluation, intervention, education and counseling, management and community service. Twenty-six tasks and Sixty-three task elements were classified. Conclusions : The results of this study will be of help for the development in clinical education and university curriculum.

  • The agricultural policy/Environmental eXtender (APEX) model was developed by the Blackland Research and Extension Center in Temple, Texas. APEX is a flexible and dynamic tool that is capable of simulating a wide array of management practices, cropping systems, and other land uses across a broad range of agricultural landscapes, including whole farms and small watersheds. The model can be configured for novel land management strategies, such as filter strip impacts on pollutant losses from upslope crop fields, vegetated grassed waterways in combination with filter strip impacts, and land application of manure removed from livestock feedlots or waste storage ponds. The APEX model has continually evolved since its inception, and the process of adaptation and modification will likely continue as use of the model expands for an ever-increasing range of environmental problems and conditions. Several improvements to specific model subroutines have already been initiated, while other potential improvements have been identified that will require future research and code modification efforts.

Property Evaluation of Ti Powder and Its Sintered Compacts Prepared by Ti Scrap (티타늄 스크랩을 이용한 분말제조 및 소결 성형체의 특성평가)

  • In this study, Ti powders were fabricated from Ti scrap by the Hydrogenation-Dehydrogenation (HDH) method. The Ti powders were prepared from the spark plasma sintering (SPS) and their microstructure was investigated. Hydrogenation reactions of Ti scrap occurred at near $450^{\circ}C$ with a sudden increase in the reaction temperature and the decreasing pressure of hydrogen gas during the hydrogenation process in the furnace. The dehydrogenation process was also carried out at $750^{\circ}C$ for 2 hrs in a vacuum of $10^{-4}$ torr. After the HDH process, deoxidation treatment was carried out with the Ca (purity: 99.5%) at $700^{\circ}C$ for 2 hrs in the vacuum system. It was found that the oxidation content of Ti powder that was deoxidized with Ca showed noticeably lower values, compared to the content obtained by the HDH process. In order to fabricate the Ti compacts, Ti powder was sintered under an applied uniaxial punch pressure of 40 MPa in the range of $900-1200^{\circ}C$ for 5 min under a vacuum of $10^{-4}$ torr. The relative density of the compact was 99.5% at $1100^{\circ}C$ and the tensile strength decreased with increasing sintering temperature. After sintering, all of the Ti compacts showed brittle fracture behavior, which occurred in an elastic range with short plastic yielding up to a peak stress. Ti improved the corrosion resistance of the Ti compacts, and the Pd powders were mixed with the HDH Ti powders.

Short-Term Water Demand Forecasting Algorithm Using AR Model and MLP (AR모델과 MLP를 이용한 단기 물 수요 예측 알고리즘 개발)

  • In this paper, we develope a water demand forecasting algorithm using AR(Auto-regressive) and MLP(Multi-layer perceptron). To show effectiveness of the proposed method, we analyzed characteristics of time-series data collected in "A" purification plant at Jeon-Buk province during 2007-2008, and then performed the proposed method with various input factors selected through various analyses. As noted in experimental results, the performance of three types model such as multi-regressive, AR(Auto-regressive), and AR+MLP(Auto-regressive + Multi-layer perceptron) show 5.1%, 3.8%, and 3.6% with respect to MAPE(Mean Absolute Percentage Error), respectively. Thus, it is noted that the proposed method can be used to predict short-term water demand for the efficient operation of a water purification plant.

  • This study aims to provide the basic data helpful for the improvement of rights and interests of radiological technologists, by understanding the current working environment and if they get the proper reward through the analysis on the perception of appropriateness of current wage and job satisfaction of radiological technologists. Survey was conducted to evaluate the perception of satisfaction with job and wage system, work intensity, necessity of the radiological technologist limit system, and turnover in accordance. The appropriate starting salary was low in case of women and non-capital area, and when the age, academic background, career, and hospital size were lower. The appropriate wage was low in case of women and non-capital area, and when the academic background and hospital size were lower. The negative perception of the necessity to change the wage system was shown in university hospitals. Regarding the work intensity, in case of women and low career, and when the age, academic background, and hospital size were higher, the work intensity was perceived as high. When the academic degree and hospital size were lower, the positive perception of the radiological technologist limit was shown. The turnover intention was high in case of women, and when the age, academic background, career, and hospital size were lower. In order to increase the job satisfaction of radiological technologists, it would be necessary to the appropriate reward and the environment where they could concentrate on work.
