CEPHALOMETRIC MEASUREMENT ACCORDING TO SKELETAL MATURITY STAGE OF THE HAND AND WRIST (수완부골성숙단계에 따른 두부방사선계칙학적 연구)

  • To investigate the relationship between craniofacial growth and bone maturity of the hand wrist in normal occlusion, the author took cephalogram and handwrist radiogram of 391 students (male 192, female 199) and assessed the measurements of cephalogram according to skeletal maturity stages of the hand and wrist. In this study, four skeketal stages and 36 linear, angular measurements of the cephalometrics were selected. In hand-wrist X-ray the bones used to determine skeletal maturity were the middle phalanges of the third finger, and distal epiphysis of the radius. In cephalogram, the landmark used to measure the angle and length were N, S, Po., Ar., Go., Me., Gn., Pog., Point B, Point A, ANS, PNS, Or., U1, L1, U6, L6 etc.. The results were as follows, 1. The table of mean, standard deviation, p-value from measurements were made in each group and both sex. 2. The increased measurements according to skeletal maturity were anterior cranial bese length, posterior cranial base length, ramus height, anterior facial height, posterior facial height, L1 to mandibular plane (mm), facial plane angle. In contrast to, decreased measurements were genial angle, facial cnvexity and facial plane angle. 3. Denture pattern measurements (IMPA, FMIA, occlusal plane to Go-Gn, interincisal angle, U1 to SN plane, U1 to SN plane, U1 to facial plane, L1 to facial plane etc.) .had nothing to do with skeletal maturity. 4. Skeletal maturity had close relationship with craniofacial growth, but had little to do with tooth development.

  • A point of doing this research is to give basic data for junior college having matriculation resources in department of electricity majority to the graduate students from Technical high school in department of electricity. We have examined the effect of the 6th and the 7th educational curriculum and courses in department of electricity on technical high school, and analyzed basic subjects of technical high school and detailed major basis subject of junior college in department of electricity by Educational courses and mathematics education contents. Also we have examined tried to secure advantage of major studying on the basis of result of analysis.

  • The object of this series of experiments was aimed for the systematic and long-term radioactivity monitoring through indirect search of C-14 concentration level changes in the natural conditions around the operating nuclear facilities. The result of environmental radioactivity level through tree-ring analysis is increased after operating nuclear facilities and such a level can be proved to relate power generation closely. The measured result of ${\delta}^{13}C$ through the treatment of cellulose can be showed the level -30‰. This figure is very different from one which is measured the -17‰ of air sample by passive air sampling and -8‰ of air sample by active air sampling. And these differences can be assumed as isotope fractionation by photosynthesis, but the problem is more study as needed.

A Survey of the Sedation or Outpatient General Anesthesia in Department of Pediatric Dentistry, Chonnam National University Dental Hospital and Gwangju Dental Clinic for the Disabled (전남대학교 치과병원 소아치과와 광주장애인구강진료센터에서 시행된 진정법과 외래전신마취에 대한 실태조사)

  • Background: Sedation or outpatient general anesthesia is a necessary method for a successful dental treatment for children and the disabled who have a difficulty of cooperation. The aim of this study was to assess the patients who had dental treatment under sedation or outpatient general anesthesia at department of pediatric dentistry, Chonnam national university dental hospital and Gwangju dental clinic for the disabled. Methods: 875 patients who had sedation from January 2009 to September 2013 and 88 patients who had outpatient general anesthesia after May 2011 were assessed for this study. Patient's distribution and treatment patterns were examined. Results: The number of patients has been increasing in both sedation and outpatient general anesthesia. In case of sedation, the proportion of male patients was higher and 4-6 years age group was the highest. Most patients have resided in Gwangju buk-gu and the percentage of restorative treatment was the highest. In case of outpatient general anesthesia, the proportion of male patients was higher than that of sedation. Two groups, 10-19 and 20-29 years age, consisted most of patient. Most patients have resided in Gwangju buk-gu and Jeollanam-do, and the percentage of periodontic and preventive treatment was the highest. Conclusions: Sedation or outpatient general anesthesia for dental treatment has been increasing for children and the disabled who have a difficulty of cooperation. Therefore, it is important to improve treatment environment under sedation and general anesthesia through continuous research and studies.

Characteristics of Chronic Sensory Abnormalities in Korean Burn Patients (한국인에서 화상 후 만성 감각이상의 특징에 대한 연구)

  • Background: After burn patients are discharged from the hospital, they may continue to feel pain and paresthetic sensations at the site of a healed burn and these problems may persist for years. This study was designed to describe the characteristics of these symptoms in terms of intensity, frequency, and influencing factors. Methods: Patients that developed paresthetic sensations at sites of a healed burn were recruited from the pain management center from January 2003 to April 2006. Data was collected using a structured interview protocol. Results: Fifty one adults, with a total body surface area burned (TBSA) of $21.1{\pm}16.3%$ aged $42.0{\pm}12.9$ years were studied. A paresthetic sensation was reported to be present every day in 52.9% (27/51) of the subjects. A variation in the intensity was most commonly related to changes in the weather. A tight sensation and itching types of sensations were significantly more frequent in patients with more extensive injuries. Conclusions: Recognition and understanding of the chronic paresthetic sensation that many burn patients continue to experience at sites of a healed burn deserve further attention. Not only do clinicians need to be aware of these problems but also strategies for prevention and alleviation shou\d be explored.

Quality Characteristics of 4 Year-old Ginseng by Enzymatic Hydrolysis Conditions (4년근 인삼의 효소적 가수분해 조건에 따른 품질특성)

  • This study investigated quality characteristics of 4 year-old ginseng by enzymatic hydrolysis conditions to increase utilization. Ginseng was ground after steaming and was each treated with hydrolase A, B, C and D. When quality characteristics by the enzymes were examined, no significant difference was observed with pH of 5.5~5.6 and the sugar content of 4.0~4.33. The crude saponin content was the highest in ginseng treated with D, followed by B, C and A. The crude saponin, the reducing sugar and the total sugar contents increased until 0.3% (w/w) concentration in enzyme D with no significant difference by its concentration. Although active ingredients increased with time passage of hydrolysis, no significant change was found after three hours and the crude saponin content was the highest when ginseng was treated at $60^{\circ}C$. From these results, optimum conditions for 4 year-old ginseng were $60^{\circ}C$ for 3 hours with 0.3% (w/w) enzyme D, and under these conditions the reducing sugar, the total sugar and the crude saponin contents recorded 18.11, 36.21 and 4.23 mg/g, respectively. Therefore, enzymatic hydrolysis was found to be effective in increasing active ingredients of 4 year-old ginseng with various usages expected.

The Effect of Internet Usage, Fandom Activities and Sense of Community on Adolescents' Mental Health in the Digital Era (디지털 시대 청소년의 인터넷 이용, 팬덤활동, 공동체 의식이 정신건강에 미치는 영향)

  • The purposes of the study are to examine the relationship amongst adolescents' internet usage, fandom activities, sense of community and their mental health in the digital era and to probe into the effect of internet usage, fandom activities, sense of community on adolescents' mental health. The results are as follows: First, there were statistically significant correlations among those four factors. Secondly, it shows that the effect of internet usage, fandom activities and sense of community on the adolescents' mental health have a difference by gender. In the case of female adolescents, there is no effect of internet usage on their mental health. But, the study reveals that adolescents' internet usage and fandom activities which now are accepted as a part of their culture, could be combined with the sense of community and could have an effect on the adolescents' mental health. Furthermore, the study casts a light on the possibility to build a strong point on adolescents' activities, education, counseling and policy making for the purpose to enhance adolescents' mental health in the future.

Preparation and Shelf-life of Soybean Curd Coagulated by Fruit Juice of Schizandra chinensis RUPRECHT(Omija) and Prunus mume(maesil) (오미자즙과 매실즙을 이용한 두부제조 및 저장)

  • Traditional food soybean curd was prepared using the fresh fruit juice of Schizandra chinensis RUPRECHT(Omija) and Prunus mume(maesil), and investigated the optimal preparative conditions(water addition ratio, heating time of mashed soybean and fresh fruit juice concentration), physical properties, sensory evaluation and shelf-life. Soybean curd coagulated with 0.9% Omija juice showed the highest yield at $85^{\circ}C$, 12.5 times water addition and 5 min heating. For soybean curd coagulated with 1.5% Maesil juice showed the highest yield at $85^{\circ}C$, 10 times water addition and 5 min heating. The physical properties (hardness, adhesiveness, chewiness and gumminess) of soybean curd coagulated with juices of Omija and Maesil showed lower values for hardness, adhesiveness, chewiness and gumminess. However sensory scores of both were evaluated higher than those of coagulated with $CaSO_4$. The shelf-life of soybean curd prepared from Omija and Masil juices and then soaked in 0.1% acetic acid was better than that of coagulated with $CaSO_4$ or soaked in distilled water.

Identification of Korean Mountain Cultivated Ginseng by RAPD (RAPD(Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA)를 이용한 장뇌삼의 지역별 품종 구분)

  • This study was conducted to examine the genetic variations and intraspecific relationships between 9 individuals of Panax ginseng C.A Meyer by using RAPD (Randomly Amplified Polymorphic DNA) analysis. The 34 primers out of 40 random primers were amplified for all tested plants. The 48 (40%) among 244 bands derived from 34 primers shown polymorphism, and the 72 (64%) rest of bands showed similar forms. By regional groups Sangju and Andong samples located in Kyungsang buk-do showed a high similarity. However, Punggi located in Kyungsang buk-do showed higher similarity with Jinan's of Junla buk-do. In this way, it did not show that Panax ginseng from the same area has similarities. In future study we need to more specific molecular phylogenetic analysis such as AFLP technology and gene sequencing with nuclear chloroplast DNA in all samples.
