  • A method for determination 11 endocrine disrupting chemicals of phenols in various samples was deloped. The alkylphenols, chlorophenols and bisphenol A were determined by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry-selected ion monitoring (GC/MS-SIM) followed by two work-up methods for comparison; isobutoxycarbonyl (isoBOC) derivatization method and tert-butyldimethylsilyl (TBDMS) derivatization method. Eleven endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) of phenols in biological samples were extracted with acetonitrile and then acetonitrile layer was refrigerated at -60$^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours (freezing filtration). • This study was performed to investigate the behavior of chlorobenzenes (CIBZS) and chlorophenols (CIPhs) in a thermally treated MSWI fly ash. The experiment was carried out in a fixed bed reactor at the temperature range of 300~$600^{\circ}C$. Reaction time range was between 30 and 120 minutes, and NB and 02 gases were used as carrier gas. The decomposition rate of CIBZS was more affected by reaction time than by the reaction temperature. The decomposition rate of CIPhs was affected by both parameters. Decomposition rate of CIBZS and CIPhs reached 80.4% and 96.6% at $600^{\circ}C$, 120 min, respectively. Considering the effect of O2 content, decomposition rate of CIBZS and CIPhs was the highest at 10% of O2 content. Declorination and decomposition reactions Pere investigated by analyzing homologue distribution. Higher chlorinated CIBZS and CIPhs homologue decreased but lower chlorinated compounds increased with the increase of temperature. Effect of O2 on the homologue distribution of these compounds was not clear in the range of our experiment conditions.

  • Knowledge of organic micropollutant transfers in barrier seal materials from waste storage facilities is limited to volatile organic compounds and phenolic compounds at ambient temperature. This study focused on the sorption of chlorophenols (CPs) from various geotextiles from clay geosynthetics under the influence of temperature. Also to study the impact of the polarity or the amount of CPs adsorbed on geotextiles with the partition coefficient. The effect of various parameters such as contact time, effect of temperature, initial CPs concentration and adsorbent dosage has been carried out in this study. The result obtained is non-linear and the data was calculated for affinity with Freundlich isotherm model. An important observation is that the amount of CPs sorbed on geotextiles increases with a growing number of chlorine atoms, ie increases with the partition coefficient (log Kow). During this study, a decrease in adsorbent properties was observed with the rise in temperature from 23℃ to 55℃. The partitioning coefficients for CPs examined range are from 2.4 (R2 = 0.86) to 8.4 mL/g (R2 = 0.90). Among the CPs studied, the highest adsorbed quantity was observed for pentachlorophenol with 0.052 g/g at 23℃, this quantity will decrease with the increase in temperature.

  • Eleven phenols including two chlorophenols, eight alkylphenols and bisphenol A were derivatized with isobutylchloroformate to form their isobutoxycarbonyl derivatives. Standard phenol mixture was concentrated for the isobutoxycarbonyl (isoBOC) derivatization and analysed by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). The recoveries of the derivatization method of alkylphenols, chlorophenols, and bisphenol A were calculated by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry-selected ion monitoring mode using two work-up methods for comparison; shaking and heating method. The linear detector responses were obtained in the concentration range of 5∼400 ng, with correlation coefficients varying from 0.9755∼0.9981. Recoveries of the alkylphenols, chlorophenols, and bisphenol A were determined by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry-selected ion monitoring mode using two work-up methods for comparison ; the US-EPA method and the isoBOC derivatization method, Eleven phenols in water samples were extracted with dichloromethane and then concentrated. Also, solid-phase extraction (SPE) with XAD-4 and subsequent conversion to isobutoxycarbonyl derivatives for sensitive analysis with the selected ion-monitoring (SIM) mode. The recoveries were 85.1∼109.9% and 90.3∼126.6% for the US-EPA method and the isoBOC.

  • Chlorobenzenes (CBs) and chlorophenols (CPs) in fly ashy discharged from several municipal solid waste incinerators (MSWI) were investigated in terms of total content and isomer distribution. The content of CBs and CPs was highest in the fly ash from S incinerator, which were 1040.7ng CB/g-fly ash and 1156.4 ng CP/g-fly ash. According to the experimental results, while all samples contained a large amount of the higher chlorinated CBs, was almost constant regardless of season. The quantities of CBs and CPs depended closely on the chemical composition of MSW. while the isomer distribution of CBs and CPs was constant throughout all the year round.

  • A method for the determination of alkylphenols, chlorophenols and bisphenol A in paper materials using GC/MS-SIM has been developed. Eleven endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) of phenols in paper samples were extracted with acetonitrile. Also, solid-phase extraction (SPE) with XAD-4 and subsequent conversion to isobutoxycarbonyl derivatives or tert.-butyldimethylsilyl derivatives for sensitive analysis with the selected ion-monitoring (SIM) mode. The recoveries were 82.4∼108.8 % by area ratio of pheranthrene-d$\sub$10/ vs bisphenol A d$\sub$l6/. (isoBOC derivatization and TBDMS derivatization) The SIM responses were linear with the correlation coefficient varying 0.9717∼0.9995 (isoBOC derivatization), and 0.9842∼0.9980 (TBDMS derivatization). The range of concentrations was respectively, 0.95∼l.44 ng/g in 2,4-dichlorophenol, 1.01∼1.17 ng/g in t-butylphenol, 2.17∼5.84 ng/g in pentachlorophenol, 12.68∼14.88 ng/g in nonylphenol and 30.84∼153.72 ng/g in bisphenol A.

  • This study employs the variety of mixtures of XAD resin and active carbons as concentration base for solid phase extraction (SPE) which has been widely used to preconcentrate and purify phenol and chlorophenols in determination of environmental water samples. In this study, we employed variety of mixtures of copolymer based XAD-4 resin with active carbons. This cartridges shows advantages of both materials, such as better affinity to phenol by active carbon and better mechanical stabilities from XAD resin. The better enrichment factor, pretreatment time, recoveries and limit of detection (LOD) were achieved by the attempts to pack precolumns with both meterials for preconcentration.

  • An analytical method for determining potential endocrine disruptors (bisphenol A, 2-chlorophenol, 2,4-dichlorophenol, 2,4,6-trichlorophenol, pentachlorophenol, p-t-butylphenol, p-pentylphenol, p-hexylphenol, p-t-octylphenol, p-heptylphenol, nonylphenol) by solid-phase extraction (SPE) and High Perfomance Liquid Chromatography(HPLC) equipped with fluorescence and variable wavelength detector has been developed. The SPE process for sample concentration was performed on a commercially available Oasis HLB cartridge packed with polymeric sorbents. The effect of elution solvent and elution volume on the recoveries of the analytes were investigated with HPLC. Average recovery of >85% was achieved with 60mg sorbents using 5mL of methanol as elution solvent. Phenolic compounds in canned drinks, beverages and water samples were surveyed by this proposed method.
