In this paper, the optimal value of optical phase conjugator (OPC) position and the optimal values of dispersion coefficients of fiber sections for the best compensation of the distorted WDM signals with frequency chirp of -1 are induced to alternate with the symmetrical distributions of power and local dispersion with respect to OPC, which is difficult to form in real optical link due to fiber attenuation in mid-span spectral inversion (MSSI) technique. It is confirmed that the Q-factors of total channels of -18.5 dBm launching light power exceed 16.9 dB, which value corresponds to 10-12 BER, by applying the induced optimal parameter values into 16 channels ${\times}$ 40 Gbps WDM system, on the other hand the Q-factors of only 9 channels exceed that value in WDM system with the conventional MSSI technique. Thus, it is expected to expand the availability of OPC in WDM system through the using of the optimal parameter values that are induced by the proposed method in this paper, without the symmetrical distributions of power and local dispersion.

In this paper, we studied the time-domain measurement and analysis techniques using a network analyzer for characterization UWB antenna link radiating impulse signal. For this purpose, we developed the CZT(Chirp z-Transform) algorithm which has characterized zoom-in function and transformed the acquired data from network analyzer to time domain format. Using the CZT algorithm, we proves that it would be better efficient and more faster than the DFT for analyzing the waveform and also be able to zoom-in the arbitrary region.

The chirp spread spectrum (CSS) technique spreads the data signal over a frequency bandwidth wider than minimum required bandwidth. By using time overlapping, the bit rate in CSS can be increased. However, for reliable transmission of data signal, the intersymbol interference (ISI) due to overlap should be analyzed. In this paper, the relation between the degree of overlap and ISI is analyzed in direct modulation binary phase shift keying CSS systems. In some cases, the overlap does not incur ISI at all and the ISI fluctuates or monotonically increases as the number of overlaps changes. It is also shown that the simulation results closely agree with the analytic results.

This paper introduces a signal processing technique for discrimination of ballistic missile's warhead. An interceptor missile to destroy the enemy's ballistic missile requires an information on the location of missile's warhead. In order to detect and locate the missile's warhead, a seeker radar in the interceptor missile makes use of chirp waveform to generate high resolution range profiles(HRRPs). We applied one of the well known spectral estimation technique called ESPRIT (Estimation of Signal Parameters by Rotational Invariance Technique) to these HRRPs to estimate scattering centers on the target. Using the information on the one-dimensional(1-D) scattering centers, we can find the location of the warhead by estimating the length of the missile, Simulation results show that the proposed signal processing technique is efficient in discriminating the warhead of an ballistic missile.

The performance of underwater acoustic communication is greatly affected by multipath propagation and Doppler spread. This paper proposes a new communication technique, the Triangle Spread Carrier (TSC) technique, by modifying the existing Sweep Spread Carrier (SSC) technique that is strong in a multipath propagation environment. The proposed TSC technique is a form in which the up-chirp and down-chirp signals have repeated carriers, and each correlation function characteristic is used to estimate and correct the Doppler shift frequency of the receiving signal. To demonstrate the performance of the proposed TSC technique, we present the results of simulations using underwater channel simulators and sea trial conducted in the East Sea. When demodulating using only the estimated Doppler shift frequency as a result of the sea trial, the uncoded bit error rate was up to 0.194, but when the proposed method was applied, the uncoded bit error rate was reduced to 0.001.
The separation of spectrally overlapped broadband echo signals from free-swimming Japanese needlefish Hypohamphus sajori using the fractional Fourier transform (FrFT) was investigated. The broadband echo signals were measured over frequency ranges of 40-80 and 110-220 kHz. The overlapped echo signals were separated after eliminating noise signals in the smoothed pseudo-Wigner-Ville distribution domain. The echo signal from a 40 mm WC sphere suspended just below a chirp transducer was used to calibrate the broadband of the chirp echo sounder and estimate the frequency dependence of target strength for the separated echo signals. The experimental results show that the proposed FrFT method can analyze the time-frequency image of broadband echo signals from free-swimming individual fish effectively and can be used as a quantitative tool for extracting the acoustic features used for fish species identification.

This paper presents an effective method to achieve the wideband waveform for high resolution SAR(Synthetic Aperture Radar) using the frequency multiplication technique. And also this paper analyzes the root causes for the spectral regrowth due to 3rd-order intermodulation in chirp bandwidth expansion scheme using quadrature modulator and frequency multipliers. The amplitude and phase imbalance requirement are defined based on the simulation results in terms of quadrature channel imbalance. This minimizes the degradation of range resolution, peak sidelobe ratio and integrated sidelobe ratio. The wideband chirp generator using the frequency multiplier and memory map scheme was manufactured and the compensation technique was presented to reduce the spectral regrowth of SAR waveform by minimizing the amplitude and phase imbalance. After I and Q channel imbalance adjustment, the carrier level reduces -28.7 dBm to -53.4 dBm. Chirp signal with 150 MHz bandwidth at S-band expands to 600 MHz bandwidth at X-band. The sidelobe levels are reduced by about 8 to 9 dB by compensating the amplitude balance between I and Q channels.

Recently, with the rapid advancement in information and communication technology, indoor location-based services(LBSs) that require precise position tracking have been actively studied with outdoor-LBS using GPS. However, in case of a ship which consists of steel structure, it is difficult to measure a precise localization due to significant ranging error by the diffraction and refraction of radio waves. In order to reduce location measurement errors that occur in these indoor environments, this paper presents distance compensation algorithms that are suitable for a narrow passage such as ship corridors without any additional sensors by using UWB(Ultra-wide-band), which is robust to multi-path and has an error in the range of a few centimeters in free space. These improvement methods are that Pythagorean theory and adjacent node technique are used to solve the distance error due to the node deployment and distance variation analysis technique is applied to reduce the ranging errors which are significantly fluctuated in the corner section. The experimental results show that the number of nodes and the distance error are reduced to 66% and 57.41%, respectively, compared with conventional CSS(Chirp spread spectrum) method.

Real-time near and far-field monitoring of concrete structural components gives enough information on the time and condition at which damage occurs, thereby facilitating damage detection while in the same time evaluate the cause of the damage. This paper experimentally investigates an integrated monitoring technique for near and far-field damage detection in concrete structures based on simultaneous use of electromechanical admittance technique in combination with guided wave propagation. The proposed sensing system does not measure the electromechanical admittance itself but detect time variations in output voltages of the response signal obtained across the electrodes of piezoelectric transducers bonded on surfaces of concrete structures. The damage identification is based on the spectral estimation MUSIC algorithm. Experimental results show the efficiency and performance of the proposed measuring technique.

Inverse synthetic aperture radar(ISAR) is coherent imaging system formed by conducting signal processing of received data which consists of radar cross section(RCS) reflected from maneuvering target. A novel algorithm is proposed to compensate inter-pulse motion(IPM) for the purpose of forming an well-focused ISAR image through signals generated by stepped chirp waveform( SCW). The velocity and acceleration of the target related to IPM are estimated based on particle swarm optimization (PSO) which has been widely used in optimization technique. Furthermore, a modified PSO which enables us to improve the performance of PSO is used to compensate IPM in a very short-time. Simulation results using point scatterer model of a Boeing-737 aircraft validate the performance of the proposed algorithm.
