The structures of airplane consist of sheet metal part, heavy machined part, and so on, which generate enormous amounts of cutting chip when these parts are machined. The cutting chip detoriorates the part quality and production efficiency. Therefore, cutting chip collecting apparatus is necessary for better quality and efficiency. In this study, blowing type cutting chip collecting apparatus was newly proposed and the concept design of the apparatus was examined through numerical analysis. Computations using the mass-averaged implicit 2D Navier-Stokes equations are applied to predict the nozzle flow field. The standard k-e turbulent model are employed to close the governing equations. Consequently, this study shows that the suggested blowing type cutting chip collecting apparatus can be alternative to existing expensive chip collecting apparatus.
This paper presents a simple and reliable one-touch type multi-immunosensing lab-on-a-chip (LOC) detecting antibodies as multi-disease markers using electrochemical method suitable for a portable point-of-care system (POCS). The multi-stacked LOC consists of a PDMS space layer for liquids loading, a PDMS valve layer with 50 im in height for the membrane, a PDMS channel layer for the fluid paths, and a glass layer for multi electrodes. For the disposable immunoassay which needs sequential flow control of sample and buffer liquids according to the designed strategies, reliable and easy-controlled on-chip operation mechanisms without any electric power are necessary. The driving forces of sequential liquids transfer are the capillary attraction force and the pneumatic pressure generated by air bladder push. These passive fluid transport mechanisms are suitable for single-use LOC module. Prior to the application of detection of the antibody as a disease marker, the model experiments were performed with anti-DNP antibody and anti-biotin antibody as target analytes. The flow test results demonstrate that we can control the fluid flow easily by using the capillary stop valve and the PDMS check valves. By the model tests, we confirmed that the proposed LOC is easily applicable to the bioanalytic immunosensors using bioelectrocatalysis.
A syringe pump or a device using high electric voltage has been used for controlling flows inside a LOC (lab-on-a-chip). Compared to LOC, however, these microfluidic devices are large and heavy that they are burdensome for a portable ${\mu}-TAS$ (micro total analysis system). In this study, a new flow control technique employing pressure regulators and pressure chambers was developed. This technique utilizes compressed air to control the micro-scale flow inside a LOC, instead of a mechanical actuator or an electric power supply. The pressure regulator controls the output air pressure by adjusting the variable resistor attached. We checked the feasibility of this system by measuring the flow rate inside a capillary tube of $100{\mu}m$ diameter in the Re numbers ranged from 0.5 to 50. In addition, the performance of this flow control system was compared with that of a conventional syringe pump. The developed flow control system was found to show superior performance, compared with the syringe pump. It maintains automatically the: air pressure inside a pressure chamber whether the flow inside the capillary tube is on or off. Since the flow rate is nearly proportional to the resistance, we can control flow in multiple microchannels precisely. However, the syringe pump shows large variation of flow rate when the fluid flow is blocked in the microchannel.
Trends in microelectronics packages such as low cost, miniaturization, high performance, and high reliability made area array interconnecting technologies including flip chip, CSP (Chip Scale Package) and BGA (Ball Grid Array) mainstream technologies. Underfill technology is used for the reliability of the area array technologies, thus electronics packaging industry regards it as very important technology In this paper, the underfill technology is reviewed and the recent advances in the underfill technology including new processes and materials are introduced. These includes reworkable underfills, no-flow underfills, molded underfills and wafer - level - applied underfills.
The successful synthesis of hyaluronic acid micro-threads is very promising approach for the broad application in tissue engineering such as dermal fillers. Because hyaluronic acid has the excellent biocompatibility and ability to maintain the moisture of up to several hundred times its own weight. In order to generate the hyaluronic acid micro-threads in microfluidic system, we employed two-phase flow microfluidic chip to make a rapid synthesis of the hyaluronic acid hydrogel. Hyaluronic acid was mixed with 0.02N NaOH solution and 1, 4-Butanediol diglycidyl ether (BDDE) solution and then injected into core channel. The ethanol was used for the 3-dimensional micro-thread formation in sheath channel. We manipulated the diameter of HA micro-threads using controlling of flow rates in microfluidic chip, and showed the feasibility of immobilization in HA micro-threads with florescent substances. Also, the generated HA micro-threads were evaluated and showed the suitable properties with tensile strength, bending property, and swelling profiles for dermal fillers. As a result, we suggested an innovative method for microfluidic chip-based HA micro-threads which could safely be applied as dermal filler in tissue engineering.
We present a high-throughput continuous cell separation chip using hydrodynamic dielectrophoresis (DEP) process. The continuous cell separation chip uses three planar electrodes in a separation channel, where the positive DEP cells are moved away from the central streamline while the negative DEP cells remain in the central streamline. In the experimental study, we use the mixture of viable (live) and nonviable (dead) yeast cells in order to obtain the continuous cell separation conditions. For the conditions of the electric fields frequency of 5MHz and the medium conductivity of $5{\mu}S/cm$, the fabricated chip performs a continuous separation of the yeast cell mixture at the varying flow-rate in the range of $0.1{\sim}{\mu{\ell}/min$.; thereby, resulting in the purity ranges of $95.9{\sim}97.3\%\;and\;64.5{\sim}74.3\%$ respectively for the viable and nonviable yeast cells. present chip demonstrates the constant cell separation performance for varying mixture flow-rates.
In this study, geometrical similarity conditions for drills of various diameters are discussed. The effect of geometrical similarity on the chip shape and forces of different sized conventional drills has been experimentally confirmed. Drilling tests are carried out for SM45C by using the conventional HSS drills. The torque and thrust forces are measured and compared with those chip forms. Chip shape in drilling are affected by three factors being flow angle, side and up curl of the chip. It is found that the feedrate and drill diameter are more affected than cutting speed on the chip form and cutting forces. The similarity conditions gives easily to estimate the chip shape, the thrust and the torque for drills of different diameters.
In this study, a monitoring method to detect chip disposal state in drilling system based on neural network was proposed and its performance was evaluated. If chip flow is bad during drilling, not only the static component but also the fluctuation of dynamic component of drilling. Drilling torque is indirectly measured by sensing spindle motor power through a AC spindle motor drive system. Spindle motor power being measured drilling, four quantities such as variance/mean, mean absolute deviation, gradient, event count were calculated as feature vectors and then presented to the neural network to make a decision on chip disposal state. The selected features are sensitive to the change of chip disposal state but comparatively insensitive to the change of drilling condition. The 3 layerd neural network with error back propagation algorithm has been used. Experimental results show that the proposed monitoring system can successfully recognize the chip disposal state over a wide range of drilling condition even though it is trained under a certain drilling condition.
