  • In the era of big data, consumers capture more and more economic surplus yet the seed of distrust also grows with the fast-spreading of social commerce, this paper began with the idea that product types may determine the degree of consumers' distrust even when identical discounts are offered for those products on Chinese social commerce websites. We also attempted to determine if distrust negatively affected consumers' purchase attitudes. 20 representative products that are commonly sold on social commerce websites in China were chosen to examine the relationships among product types, discount rates, distrust levels, and purchase attitudes. Inductive interview was used to collect the data as well as consumers' perceptions of the relationships. Data analysis results suggested that consumers like deep discounts, but their distrust levels increase along with the discount rates, however, the levels of increasing distrust vary according to product types. High, medium, and low discount rate categorizations were made and three propositions were suggested. This paper will contribute to the body of knowledge on online social commerce market and provide valuable implications for e-retailers and general consumers in online social commerce websites in China.

  • While global production supply chains are expected to shift toward friendly or allied countries, pandemic-shoring such as nearshoring and friendshoring, due to increased protectionism and the reorganization of regional value chains in the wake of the global pandemic, the study found that economic rather than political factors are still at play in consumer supply chains. In the case of Chinese e-commerce market (C-commerce), the study attributes the rapid growth of the market to (1) related regulatory relaxations introduced to stimulate consumption after the end of COVID-19, (2) an increasing pattern of wanting to consume more for a limited income and (3) unconventional business activities to increase their share of the global consumption market. Through these phenomena, the production-consumption network is likely to develop into a more fragmented form, and the consumption network in particular is expected to become more fragmented, influenced by the digital technology war, a phenomenon of re-globalization.

  • This study evaluates the potential by Chines region for entry of Korean logistics companies and retailers. The variables affecting e-commerce business and retail sales concerning the Chinese omni-channel market were extracted from a thorough literature review. Empirical analyses for variables based on 31 regions in China were performed. Results show that e-commerce is affected by disposable income and internet traffic and that retail sales are affected by urban and rural population, GRDP and urbanization. In addition, we performed variance decomposition analysis in order to estimate responses of logistics GDP(transport, storage and communication) and the number of Chinese mobile users. Exogenous shocks to logistics GDP and the number of mobile phone users play a strong role in explaining the forecast error of express service variance over time. Based on our results, we suggest 7 potential regions(Guangdong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Beijing, Shanghai, Liaoning and Shandong) as well as managerial implications for entry into China for logistics companies and retailers.
