Purpose: The purpose of this study examined the distribution of constitution(Con) types by examining the Chinese constitution table questionnaire with 594 Seoul citizens. It investigated the preferences of five colors by the Con. It then was to explore the validity of the test and the five colors according to the Con. Methods: We used the CC table questionnaire and surveyed by using a cardinal color. Results: The Con type distributions include yangweak(31.4%), yin-weak, gall-humidity, harmony, qi-weak, qi-gloom, specific, and extravasate in order. The lack of statistical significance also indicates that the CC test is not appropriate for Seoul citizens. The order of five preferences is 31% in blue, 25.3% in yellow, 18% in white, 17.7% in red, and 8% in black. Blue was the most preferred and black the least. There were differences in the distribution of five colors, but they were not statistically significant. In five viscera diseases of the yang-weak con, the stomach was more than half(50.3%). The highest preferred color was blue (30.9%). This difference was significant(p <.01). It evaluated that this influences the preference of five colors by five diseases. Conclusions: The constitution of Seoulian in the CC survey distributed into nine categories. There was a difference in preference of five colors by the con. However, it was not significant. This indicates that the Chinese con table is not suitable for Seoulian. However, the results are to be primary data for research in this field.
In order to investigate if nutrition-related TV programs give the public correct and useful imformation, 26 producers(PD) having worked for any one of the nutirtion-related TV programs were surveyed by using questionnaire on the attitudes toward seeking an expert's advice about the issues and the panelist's constitution of one typical nutrition-related TV show program broadcasted during the last 5 years was analyzed. The most important reason for selecting the nutrition-related issues was to satisfy the interests and demands of audiences. Both being motivated by food-related accidents and to educate people for the health promotion were the second ones. In the process of nutrition-related program production, 53.9% of PDs always requested expert's advice, while 46.1% occasionally did. Professors in food and nutrition were regarded as the most proper advisor. Dietitians, physicians and physicians of Chinese medicine wer the next in order. The similar pattern were shown in the rankd of specialists actually invited as panelists to the program. Both the speciality and being well-known were less positive and favorable for participating in the program compared to experts in other areas. The number of programs about food and nutrition broadcasted on the TV show during 1993-1997(July) was 361(about 30%). The total of 1,043 specialists appeared, 2.9 persons per program on the average. Of these, only 12.9% were professors in food and nutrition as well as dietitians. The largest(20.2%) was physicians or medical professors, and 13.6% cooks and 12.6% physicians of Chinese medicine. Of 361 programs 45 were thought to be undesirable on the panelist constitution. Particualrly in 19 programs, where nutritionists were not invited, physicians or physicians of Chinese medicine explained diet therapy, food, nutrient or dietary habit.
There is linguistic phenomenon that Korean syllable, morpheme and word are substituted with Chinese Character. These phenomenon is called Chinese Character Borrowing, the Chinese character used here is called Borrowed Chinese Character. Whereas borrowing Chinese character in Chinese is used for borrowing only sound for different word, borrowing Chinese character in Korean is used for assigning new meaning. Hence, by borrowing Chinese character in Korean, a syllable which had no meaning originally get new meaning, morpheme and word meaning has changed. At advertisement and campaign, Chinese Character Borrowing has lots of linguistical advantage such as visual immediacy, effectiveness of meaning expression. However, there are number of cases found that violate grammar rule and word constitution practice by Chinese Character Borrowing. For this reason, Chinese Character Borrowing has the problem polluting Korean along with another foreign words. Thus, this paper focus on study Chinese Character Borrowing phenomenon in Korean, and analysis its effectiveness and impact in Korean. In addition, analysis the problem of Borrowed chinese Character, and suggestion several alternative for right use of Korean is followed.
Objectives This study aimed to assessing the performance of Sasang constitutional analysis Tool (SCAT) for Chinese as one of method to diagnose Sasang Constitution and evaluating the possibility of applying SCAT to foreign people. Methods This cross-sectional study was approved by IRB (Independent Review Board) at J Hospital in Yanbian. Informed consent to take part in the study was obtained from each of the participants. The performance of SCAT was assessed through Kappa coefficient and the concordance rate between SCAT and expert diagnosis. Results The concordance rate between SCAT and expert was 61.1% in total and the Kappa was 0.408. When the constitutional probability increased, the concordance rate and Kappa showed a increasing tendency. The concordance rate of Chosun race was 62.1% and others 60.7%. Conclusions SCAT, as Sasang constitutional diagnostic supporting system, may help the expert to diagnose Sasang constitution in Yanbian region.

Objectives: Eight Constitution Medicine (ECM) categorizes individuals into eight constitutions based on physiological differences in organ relations and recommends different diets for different constitutions. This study presents a preliminary analysis of the effect of following constitutional food regimens on quality of life and health outcomes for different constitutions. Methods: This cross-sectional, comparative study used subjects recruited from Essen University Hospital Traditional Chinese Medicine Center in Germany. From a convenience sample of 243 Germans, those in the groups Hepatonia/Cholecystonia (n = 95) and Pulmotonia/Colonotonia (n = 26) were analyzed for health outcomes in relation to their dietary habits of either including or avoiding meat. Health outcomes were measured with SF-36, self-reported survey. Results: The two groups had no significant differences in the health outcomes of SF-36. However, subjects in Hepatonia/Cholecystonia who had followed their dietary habit for more than 20 years had significantly better scores on general health, social functioning, mental health, emotional role functioning, and mental component scores than those in Pulmotonia/Colonotonia, regardless of their meat intake. Conclusions: This study established initial groundwork for considering patients' constitutions when evaluating health outcomes and their relation to diet. Further studies are warranted on the effects of regulating food intake according to individual constitution.

A radial artery pulse wave is well known as a good mans to diagnose human body condition in th field of Chinese medical science. Information about constitution as well as organs can be obtained by detecting the artery pulse wave. Recently, the information about the human body constitution may be utilized in accelerating the recovery process of the patient on the basis of comprehensive diagnosis. A radial artery pulse wave is considered as one of promising means in examining the human body constitution. Since the examination has been conducted by the feeling of finger, the diagnosis may occasionally have uncertainty or fatal error. In this paper, a new measuring system is suggested and developed to examine the pattern of a pulse wave correctly. The system is composed of four pressure vessels, pressure sensors and air supplying pumps. One of them is utilized for appropriately pressing the radial artery, three of them for detecting pressure change in several mmHg level. The detected data is shown and discussed.
Purposes This study is for the constitutional health in daily life by adding the Sasang Constitutional points to the kimchi's nutritional ones. It lays the foundation of the development of both new medical kimchis and production of various kinds of kimchis according to different constitution. Methods We have examined the Keemy(氣味) and effect(效能) of kimchi represented in the Korean medicine [Dongyibogam(東醫寶鑑), Hyangyaggibseongbang(鄕藥集成方), Choongyakdaesajeon(中葯大辭典)] and Leejema's literature [DongyiSoosebowon(東醫壽世保元), Dongmooyugo(東武遺稿), Chobon kwon(草本卷)]. Results 1) There are 18 kinds of materials in kimchi, 9 main materials and 9 additional ones. 2) There are mustard, red pepper, garlic, leek, ginger, salt, green onion, and dropwort as good materials of kimchi for Soeumin, which are mostly Shinon(辛溫) or Yeoll(熱). 3) There are eggplant, oyster, chinese cabbage, shrimp, cucumber, and sesame as good materials of kimchi for Soyangin, which are mostly Gam(甘) or Ham(寒) or Ryang(凉), Han(寒). 4) There are bracken, perilla, radish, and taro as good materials of kimchi for Taeumin. which are mostly ShinGam(辛甘) or OnPyeong(溫平), Ryang(凉) Han(寒).
