  • In recent years, most companies are making strategic strides to respond to changes in the competitive landscape. This trend is proceeding independently from industry to industry, and the Chinese cosmetics industry, which is at its peak, is no exception. In the meantime, the question of whether the concept of strategy group and related theories are suitable for advanced markets and whether they are applicable to emerging markets such as China is an interesting subject of inquiry. The purpose of this study is to classify strategic groups based on the cognitive approach of CEO's in the Chinese cosmetics industry. Some of the existing studies on strategic groups have raised limitations on the theoretical validity of the classification and criteria of strategic groups. However, since the concept of the strategic group becomes a middle level analysis unit between the enterprise and the industry, applying this concept to the Chinese cosmetic industry will help identify the strategic group existing in the industry and grasp the composition of the entire industry.

  • The role of the garment and textile industry is particularly important in the economies of many countries in the context of international goods trade. There is no denying that the garment and textile industry contributes significantly to the economic growth in the global economy. The study seeks to investigate the relationship between control variables and Vietnamese consumers' intention to buy Chinese garment products. While previous research has found some control variables influencing consumers' intention to buy products, little research has been done about the influence of control variables on consumers' intention to buy Chinese garment products, in developing countries like Vietnam. In particular, the textile industry plays an important role in export, but outsourcing is accounting for a high proportion of trade, hence, it is necessary to increase innovation to increase consumers' intention to buy domestic garment products. The data is collected from a survey of 406 Vietnamese consumers' in Hanoi city and Ho Chi Minh City. The methodology includes a mixed-method, i.e. qualitative method and quantitative method. The quantitative method applies SPSS analysis to measure the control variables' influence on Vietnamese consumers' intention to buy Chinese garment products. The results identify 1 control variable that impacts Vietnamese consumers' intention to buy Chinese garment products, which is domicile.

Study on Entrepreneurial Intention of Chinese University Students (중국 대학생의 창업 의도에 관한 연구)

  • Due to their participation in commercial activities between countries, many small and medium-sized trading companies are more of a born-global venture. The entrepreneurial intention is one of the key drivers impacting the formation of this born-global venture. In recent the importance of venture founding has been emphasized on a global scale. How to revitalize venture founding is becoming a nation-wide challenge in emerging economies as well as advanced countries. In particular, under the banner of 'Many people founding venture, Many people creating innovation', a new-coined word 'Choangker', an innovative founder of a venture, appeared in China. Existing studies have focused on entrepreneurial intention as a key driver that could affect whether a latent entrepreneur would actually found a venture or not. In this paper, we wanted to investigate what factors influence the entrepreneurial intention of the Chinese university students. Results of statistical analysis show that self-efficacy, personal experiences, supporting activities for venture founding, and social networks have positive effects on entrepreneurial intention of the Chinese university students. These results are similar to the claims of previous studies on the factors that influence the entrepreneurial intention of university students. In the future, researches on the entrepreneurial intention of the Chinese university students should be carried out to reflect the institutional characteristics at the national level.

A Study on the Analysis of Container Distribution channel between Korean Western Ports & Chinese North Ports (북중국 주요항만과 서해안 항만간의 교역 컨테이너 유통경로 분석에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze traffic volume between the Korean container ports located at the west coast and northern Chinese ports and then the distribution trend of container between Korea and China. The findings of the study are as follows. First, Container traffic between western Korean ports and northern Chinese ports has been increasing due to an increasing trade volume between both countries and geographical accessibility. Second, Seoul and neighboring area tend to use the trade route between the western ports and northern Chinese because of lower logistics costs and time-saved advantage compared to another ports. Third, the growth of the western ports did depend mainly on the northern China oriented growth. Such a fact could leads to the overlapping investment in port development in Korea and another intense competition among national ports to attract cargoes and liners. Therefore, port development policy considering the characteristics and function of national ports have to be established. and also alternatives and strategies for improving the competitive edge of small and medium sized shipping lines against the opening of shipping market have to be worked out.

  • With agreement from the US, EU, and other countries, China joined in WTO(World Trade Organization) on December 1, 2001. So it is expected that Korea will not expand bilateral trade but also face severe competition with China for world and Chinese market. After Chinese accession to WTO, the aspect of Korean companies may be considered to be reduced the aspect of opportunity and risk by half. Accordingly, Korean domestic companies have to search countermeasures optimized to get global competition by considering the aspect of opportunity and risk. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to review the potential possibility of China as a world market and to provide countermeasures for major Korean domestic industries.

  • It is widely acknowledged that Chinese economy becomes a center of world economy and takes up a considerable portion of the trade in Northeastern Asia. Due to the investment and the logistics modernization strategy of Chinese government, recognizing the importance of logistics, the competitiveness of Chinese major ports is tending upward rapidly. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the competitiveness of Chinese major ports in order to develop the logistics strategy of Korea by cooperating or competing with Chinese ports. In this study, we analyzed the competitiveness of 10 major Chinese ports with Data Envelopment Analysis(DEA). Through the analysis, we could investigate the efficiency of 10 major Chinese ports and figure out the trend of the efficiency within recent 10 years. In order for Korea to achieve the national strategic goal, becoming a logistics hub in East Asia, it is obvious to understand the competitiveness of Chinese major ports which are major competitor and strategic partner at the same time. This study will be useful to understand the competitiveness of Chinese ports and to develop a logistics hub strategy of Korea.

Analysis of the Car Industry Trade Structure between Korea and China

  • Purpose - This study, in seeking to understand the trade structure of both Korea and China, aims to strengthen Korea-China economic cooperation; it examines trade impediments by analyzing the problems affecting trade and addressing these problems, thereby discovering ways to expand trade between these countries. Research Design, Data, and Methodology - The index of trade intensity developed by the trade intensity theory (Kruger, 1997) is used to analyze the trade decision factors of both countries. Although specific factors should have materialized from the analysis of trade decision factors, determining concrete explanations is difficult in reality, as there are many unsolved and diverse factors. Results - First, the index of A value/B value is the index of Korean versus Chinese market share/Korean versus world market share, which is a measure of comparative market intensity. Second, Korea has a comparative advantage in export specialization and, conversely, China has a comparative advantage in import specialization. Third, compared to 2000, the revealed comparative advantage (RCA) indexes are considerably improved. Conclusions - This study used quantitative measurement for analysis, applying trade intensity theory, trade specialization, and RCA indexes to gauge how inter-trade relations have changed between Korea and China during the past 10 years (2000, 2005, and 2012).

The Evolutionary Trends and Influential Factors Analysis of Agricultural Trade between South Korea and RCEP Member Countries

  • With the acceleration of regional economic integration, the agricultural trade network within the RCEP region presents new opportunities and challenges for member countries. This study focuses on agricultural trade among RCEP members from 2011 to 2020, utilizing social network analysis to explore the structural characteristics and evolutionary trends of the trade network. Additionally, an extended gravity model is employed to empirically analyze the key factors influencing South Korea's agricultural trade with other member countries. The findings reveal that: (1) Agricultural trade relationships within the RCEP region are stable and mature, with high interconnectivity in the trade network, indicating a trend towards balanced development. (2) The positions of member countries within the agricultural trade network are characterized by both high density and heterogeneity. (3) South Korea's agricultural trade with RCEP member countries is positively influenced by the economic size, population size, and governance level of its trading partners, while South Korea's own indicators show no significant effect. The trade distance between South Korea and member countries also has a positive impact on agricultural trade. By combining social network analysis with an extended gravity model, this study provides a multi-faceted quantitative analysis of the RCEP agricultural trade network, offering new insights into regional agricultural trade. It also provides empirical evidence for agricultural trade cooperation between South Korea and other RCEP countries.

Analysis on Industrial Competitiveness for the Promotion of Trade Relations between Korea and China (한국과 중국 간의 교역관계 증진을 위한 산업경쟁력 분석)

  • Nowadays, economic growth of China has become an important issue. Due to the demographic position and the market size, China-Korea trade relationship has grown tremendously and significantly. The Chinese relationship with the Korean industry has considerably increased over the years. Various trade competitiveness indices such as TSI, MRCAI, and IITI have been applied to measure the competitive advantage and the complementary of market structure between these two countries. For this purpose, the dataset from the year 2000 to 2008 provided by KITA were used. The MRCAI result show that Korea has specialized in the product of semiconductor, communication equipment, precision machine, automobile, and nonferrous metal. The intra-industry trade level of Korean manufacturing industry is rising in line with the dominance of vertical intra-industry trade(VIIT) trend.
