  • Platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR) is a prognostic marker in human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) however, its utility in canine HCC has not been explored. The aim of the study was to determine if PLR could predict survival outcomes in 42 dogs with HCC. PLR was not a significant predictive factor (p = 0.15) but lymphopenia alone was significantly correlated with a reduced probability of survival (p = 0.024). Further studies are needed to evaluate if peripheral lymphocyte count mirrors that of the tumor microenvironment in canine HCC.

  • This paper describes a design and a verification of linear state observers for a motorized seat belt system to estimate state information such as angular velocity and load torque. The motorized seat belt system provides functions to protect passengers and improve passenger's convenience. To realize these functions, sensors which can measure an angular velocity and load torque are needed. By use of the linear state observer, state information can be estimated without sensors. The motorized seat belt system is analysed and represented as a state space model which contains load torque as an augmented state. By the developed state space model, a full and reduced order observer are designed and verified by experiments. The full and reduced order observer are also compared from points of view of execution time and noise robustness.

  • Purpose: Mycobacterium abscessus belongs to the group of rapid-growing atypical mycobacterium. The organism is ubiquitous and is found in soil, dust, and water. Although it rarely causes disease in humans, Mycobacterium abscessus has been associated with soft tissue infection. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case report of facial soft tissue Mycobacterium abscessus infection in a healthy child in Korea. Methods: A 12-year-old girl presented with an erythematous skin lesion with serous discharge on her chin, which had been present for 3 weeks. On her history, she had a laceration wound on her chin at public bath and the lesion was repaired at emergency department immediately. Although conventional soft tissue infecton treatment, her lesion remains unhealed state and had serous discharge for 2 months. Moreover, we found a 1 cm sized nodular mass on her chin. Therefore we performed excision operation and referred the specimen to the laboratory for microbial and histopathologic study. Results: Pathology report confirmed the mass was enlarged lymph node with chronic necrotizing granulomatous inflammation with central microabscess. Non-Tuberculous mycobacterium identification test through tissue specimen resulted Mycobacterium abscessus. We prescribed clarithromycin for three weeks by oral administration as well as performed wound debridement and mass excision via previous wound. This way, her lesion appeared to be complete healing with minimal scarring. There were no evidence of inflammation sign or palpable mass. Conclusion: Although the prevalence is rare, Mycobacterium abscessus infections of soft tissue should be considered even in a healthy child with a lesion caused by trauma or which fails to respond to conventional treatment.

  • Most game-theoretic works of Aloha have emphasized investigating Nash equilibria according to the system state represented by the number of network users and their decisions. In contrast, we focus on the possible change of nodes' utility state represented by delay constraint and decreasing utility over time. These foregone changes of nodes' state are more likely to instigate selfish behaviors in networking environments. For such environment, in this paper, we propose a repeated Bayesian slotted Aloha game model to analyze the selfish behavior of impatient users. We prove the existence of Nash equilibrium mathematically and empirically. The proposed model enables any type of transmission probability sequence to achieve Nash equilibrium without degrading its optimal throughput. Those Nash equilibria can be used as a solution concept to thwart the selfish behaviors of nodes and ensure the system stability.

  • Beef jerky is a traditional salted or soysauce-added and dried Korea meat product. Jerky is made from loins which is thin sliced, curing salt(soysauce-added), smoked and dried. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects curing salt soy sam and/or smoking. A lexicon for describing the texture and flavor of beef jerky were developed. The intensity of a vatiety of texture, flavor, and mouth feel properties was characterized for beef jerky. A highly trained descriptive sensory panel identified, defined and referenced 17 attributes for beef jerky. (omitted)

  • The object of this study shows a program for supervisory control of the electric power distribution, approach to the more easy manipulations and hangulization that could be easily familiar to the domestic operators whereas the program, up to now, displayed only in English. This program is consist of a skeleton-diagram designer and a state-displayer of the electric power distribution To make skeleton-diagram data available in state-displayer, the designer must be performed with the proposed format in the program manual. States display executes downloading S/Ws-state-data externally and display the S/W informations at that times, and also power distribution simulation of voluntary S/W manipulations performed by the internal operators is possible.

  • Limit states of a tension member are the yielding of gross section, fracture of net section, and block shear failure. Block shear failure is very complicated than other limit state because of interaction of tension and shear failure. Block shear failure is studied continuously since the 1970s. However, failure model to estimate the strength of block shear failure provided in current design specifications is not reflective of the failure mode observed in the various experimental studies. Comparisons between the experimental results and design rules in various specifications about the block shear failure were conducted in this study. Also, the need for further studies of block shear failure were proposed.

  • The output of the controller is said to exceed the input limits of the plant being controlled when a control system operates in a non-linear region. This process is called the windup phenomenon. The windup phenomenon is not preferable in the control system because it leads to performance degradation, such as overshoot and system instability. Many anti-windup strategies involve switching, where the integral component differently operates between the linear and the non-linear states. The range of state for the non-overshoot performance is better illustrated by the boundary integral error plane than the proportional-integral (PI) plane in windup inspection. This study proposes a PI controller with a separate closed-loop integral controller and reference value set with respect to the input command and external torque. The PI controller is compared with existing conventional proportional integral, conditional integration, tracking back calculation, and integral state prediction schemes by using ScicosLab simulations. The controller is also experimentally verified on a direct current motor under no-load and loading conditions. The proposed controller shows a promising potential with its ability to eliminate overshoot with short settling time using the decoupling mode in both conditions.

  • In this paper we shall give some characterizations of strongly cyclic and totally reachable (TR) automata when A = (M, X, $\delta$) is MinCR-automaton. Also we shall see that if an automaton A is strongly cyclic, then A is cyclic and a TR-automaton. When A is MinmaxCR-automaton, we shall give another characterizations for a strongly cyclic and cyclic TR-automaton.

  • The choice of economic development over environmental protection has been used to explain the decline in the quality of the environment in developing countries. The authors reject this explanation and propose a theory of negligence to explain this decline. They point to the advantages of environmental impact assessments in dealing with the problem of negligence and presents case studies from four countries. Organizational models for Environmental Impact Assessments in Developing Countries are proposed as useful policy measures.
