Chronic kidney disease (CKD) causes numerous changes that destabilize homeostasis, of which anemia is one of its important complications. Anemia significantly reduces the quality of life in children with CKD and plays a crucial role in the progression of cardiovascular disease such as left ventricular hypertrophy, a major cause of mortality in those with advanced CKD. The treatment of anemia is a pivotal factor in reducing morbidity and mortality rates in children with CKD, representing one of the methods for enhancing patients' quality of life.

The aim of this study was to present a flexible and satisfactory clothing design for girls aged 4 to 6 years of age, which can be worn comfortably for 3 years, during that age range. This study focuses attention on the need for well-fitting clothes in the young girls' market, and provides a basis for development of designs that can be worn for a long time, are comfortable for children to wear, and reflect preferences of both children and parents. Documentary research was executed to examine the history and changes of children's wear. Internet and market research were carried out to understand the current situation of girls' clothing in Korea. In-depth interview subjects were girls aged 4 to 6 and their guardians. Subjects were asked questions related to children's wear size and design, and measurements were taken of child subjects. Children's wear on the Internet was found to be trendy and inexpensive but of a low quality, as was children's wear at Dongdaemun market. Children's wear at department stores was of high quality and pretty, but did not consider size much and was expensive. One problem of the Korean children's wear market was lack of a unified size system. In-depth interviewees pointed out that there are not many clothes that fit their children perfectly. Problems included t-shirt, sleeve and pants length. Parents said they preferred simple and clean designs, and children interviewees all liked pink dresses and skirts. Children's physical measurements presented by Size Korea were compared and verified with measurements taken of child interviewees, and used as a basis for patterns. The study presented two designs for girls of ages 4 to 6 to wear all through that age range. A sample was made for one of the designs, and an evaluation showed very successful results.

In Korea, playgrounds have been developed quantitatively and qualitatively. However, there is a lack of interest in the play needs of children with disabilities. With this in mind, this study is concerned about the planning and design process of the inclusive playground constructed in 2016 at Seoul Children's Grand Park. The case study covered the Kkumtle Kkumtle playground in Seoul Children's Grand Park and was completed in December 2015. This playground is the first case of an inclusive playground ever built in Korea. The concept of the inclusive playground established in this study is: (1) a playground where not only children with disabilities but both children with disabilities and children without disabilities can play together; (2) a playground for both children with disabilities accompanied by their families and children without disabilities accompanied by family members with disabilities; (3) a playground that ensures universal accessibility to the entire space including play facilities; and (4) a playground where the most essential functions of a playground-fun, curiosity, and adventure-are centered on various activities. In conclusion, we presented limitations and opinions for improvements to design and policy proposals for social expansion of inclusive playgrounds. There are three ways to overcome limitations in design. First, there is a need for an in-depth study of play characteristics by type of disabilities of children. Second, it is necessary to develop facilities suitable for the actual situation of Korea through various social experiments. Third, if the inclusive playground centered on facilities is presented in this study, then several types of integrated playgrounds should be implemented in the future.
Objective: The purposes of this study are to test a direct effect of mother-child interaction and to examine the mediating effect of children's smart media use on a child's sleeping hours. Methods: We analyzed the longitudinal data of 1,494 children from the $6^{th}$ panel study of Korean children collected by the Korea Institute of Child Care and Education in 2013, which examined 5-year-old children. The main analysis method was Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). Results: The study results showed that mother-child interaction had a direct effect on the child's sleeping hours. Children's smart media use also directly influenced the child's sleeping hours. In regard to mediation, the results revealed that children's smart media use mediated the relationship between mother-child interaction and child's sleeping hours. Conclusion/Implications: Bidirectional mother-child interaction and the degree of smart media use played an important role in children's sleeping hours. This study suggests policy and practical implications in order to retain children's healthy sleeping hours.
The present research investigated scholastic self-concepts and attribution tendencies of institutionalized children in comparison with home-reared children. The subjects were 286 institutionalized and 327 home-reared fifth. sixth, seventh, and eighth grade children. Instruments were the Scholastic Self-Concept Test(Park. Lee. & Cho. 1980). the Attribution Tendency Test(Lee, 1983) and a questionnaire constructed by the researcher. Data were analyzed by ANOVA. Duncan's Test of Multiple Comparsion, and product- moment correlation coefficient(r). Findings showed that (1) the scholastic self-concept of institutionalized children was lower than that of home-reared children; (2) higher scholastic self-concept of institutionalized children was correlated with (i) higher degree of contentment with the institution. (ii) shorter length of residence in the institution. and (iii) older age at admission to the institution; (3) institutionalized children attributed achievement more to uncontrollable. external factors. while home-reared children attributed achievement more to controllable. internal factors; (4) institutionalized children with a lower degree of contentment with the institution attributed achievement to luck while those with a higher degree of contentment attributed achievement to ability; and (5) the higher the scholastic self-concept. the higher the tendency to attribute achievement to internal. controllable factors, and the lower the scholastic self-concept, the higher the tendency to attribute achievement to external, uncontrollable factors.
The purposes of this study were to investigate the relationship between children's private speech during the individual session and maternal scaffolding during mother-child session. Subjects were twenty 3-year-old children and twenty 5-year-old children and their mothers recruited from day-care centers in Seoul. Mother-child interaction was videotaped for 15 minutes and maternal utterances were transcribed for analysis maternal scaffolding. Individual session of child after 3-5days was videotaped for 15 minutes and children's utterance was transcribed. Subcategories of maternal scaffolding were significantly related with children's private speech during individual session. There did appear to be an age difference in this relationship. In verbal strategy for scaffolding that 3-year-old's mother used, other-regulation and control, praise strategy was significantly related with children's private speech. In verbal strategy for scaffolding that 5-year-old's mother used, other-regulation and control, teaching strategy was significantly related with children's private speech. In maternal physical control strategy, withdrawal of mother physical control the maze task over time was significantly related with children's private speech. Withdrawal of mother physical control 5-year-old's physical performance was significantly related with children's private speech.
This study examined whether children's self-esteem has a mediating effect upon the need for peer approval in terms of both depression and social competence. The participants of this study were 393 5th graders in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. The children filled out questionnaires on the need for peer approval, self-esteem and depression. Teachers were asked to rate the levels of the children's social competence. Data were analyzed by means of structural equation modeling. Our results indicated that self-esteem mediated effects of the need for peer approvals on children's depression. Children who sought positive approval from peers had higher self-esteem, which in turn lowered the level of children's depression. Children who avoided negative approval from peers had lower self-esteem, which in turn contributed to children's depression. However, self-esteem did not have a mediating effect upon the need for peer approval in terms of children's social competence.

This study aims at exploring Korean mothers' beliefs on the development of emotion of their children. In specific, sensitivity and maternal reactions to their children's both negative and positive emotion expressions were explored. Further, associations among maternal sensitivity, maternal reactions and child emotion regulation were examined. A total of 100 Korean mothers whose children were between 6 and 7 years old participated in the study. In order to assess mothers' beliefs about sensitivity, vignettes in a forced-choice format were presented through individual interviews. Mothers' self reported reactions to their children's negative emotions and positive emotions and mothers' perceptions of children's emotion regulation were assessed using questionnaires. Results revealed that Korean mothers endorsed both proactive and reactive sensitivity. However, their sensitivity differed depending on the situation. Mothers tended to endorse either Emotion Focused or Problem Focused reactions to their children's negative emotions. Mothers reported that they were most likely to restrict their child positive emotional expression with explanation in supportive way followed by invalidating through reprimanding it. Mothers' reported Distress Reactions and Punitive Reactions to children's expression of negative emotion were associated with children's liability whereas Emotion-Focused Reaction and Problem-Focused Reaction were associated with children's functional emotion regulation. The results are discussed within a theoretical framework of socialization of emotions.
This study investigated social determinants and their interaction effects on the health of school-aged children in diverse environmental factors pertaining to the individual, family, and peers from an ecological systematic perspective. Data were drawn from the first wave of the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey (KCYPS) developed by the National Youth Policy Institute and conducted in 2010. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, Cronbach ${\alpha}$, correlation, and hierarchical regression analysis using SPSS ver. 18. The results from this study showed that sex and age were related to the health of school-aged children, as social determinants. Self-rated levels of the health of boys and younger children were more positive than girls and older children; in addition, levels of self-resilience, satisfaction of peer relation, and parenting rearing attitude were found to have a positive impact on self-rated levels of the health of school-aged children as protective factors. Especially, according to the result of interaction analysis between factors, self-resilience, and parenting rearing attitude were moderators of the effects on between sex and household income and self-rated level of the health of school-aged children respectively. The findings from this study suggested the need to expand the social intervention range to improve school-aged children's health.
Objectives : The purpose of this study is to research the internet addiction and the Weak children. Methods : Total 400 of 5th and 6th grade JeonJu Elementary student children consisted with 203 men, 197 women were chosen for this study. They answered questionnaires of the internet addiction and the Weak children on June 12th, 2008. Results : 75% were general internet user, latent danger user group was 14.7%, high danger user group was 10.3%. The mean of the general weak children was the highest and then the group of children who had Heart, the Lung, the Liver, the Spleen, the Kidney problems were followed. These showed the relationships with living styles, especially eating patterns and parents' concerns about children's internet use. The more serious internet addiction was, the more the weaker children symptoms were answered significantly. The heart weak children symptoms were found in latent-high danger internet user group. Conclusions : In conclusion, the physical and psychological symptoms of the internet addiction children were resulted by the disturbance of Qi and the pathological change of internal organs.
