과학 실험을 왜 할까? : 초등과학 영재아들이 생각하는 과학 실험의 목적 (Why do We do Science Experiments? : Scientifically Gifted Children's Views about the Purpose of Science Experiments)

  • The object of this study is to investigate the views of scientifically gifted children about the purpose of scientists' experiments and school science experiments. The children's views were examined using a open-ended questionnaire survey. And then the responses from the children were analyzed with categorization. The results from the study are as follows: First, the children's views about the purpose of scientists' experiments and school science experiments were classified to 2 top-level, 5 mid-level and 21 sub-level categories. Second, it was found that the children considered internal values of doing experiments are more worthy than the social and personal usefulness of the experiments. Third, the gifted children mentioned most frequently that the purposes of the scientist experiment is 'to get the evidences for their theory and argument which is unusual in the regular children's views. Also the discovery of new phenomena and materials, and the generation of new theories and ideas were mentioned as purposes of the scientist experiments. Fourth, the students frequently stated that school science experiments support effective learning of science subject enhancing subject interests and better explanation/understanding. Fifth, relatively many students thought that the purposes of school science experiments are different with those of scientist experiments. Based on the results from the study, some educational suggestions are discussed.

초등학생의 당, 나트륨, 지방 섭취 저감화를 위한 교육용 웹사이트 및 e-learning system 개발 (Development of an Educational Web Site and e-Learning System for Elementary School Students to Reduce Sugar, Natrium and Fat Intakes)

  • This study was carried out to reduce children's sugar, natrium and fat intakes and establish their healthy lifestyle. To achieve these goals, we developed an educational web site and an e-learning system. The targets of this web site are children, parents and educators. This site has various information about sugar, natrium and fat, and has special menus for each target: such as the 'Let's study' for children, 'Guides for child's eating' for parents, and 'Educational softwares, Lesson plans/materials, and Textbooks/Teaching guides' for educators. We developed three nutrient characters and applied them to the web site. We provided information in the form of texts, images, flash and sounds. This site has special boards in 'Nutrition cafe' menu to interchange information or their successful stories between the connecters. We developed an e-learning system with two courses. One is for junior elementary students and the other is for senior students. Children can study each nutrient step by step in a course according to their academic ability and concern. Also, they can evaluate their academic achievement in this system, which was uploaded into 'Let's study' in children menu in the web site. Conclusively this web site and e-learning system could contribute to reducing children's sugar, natrium and fat intakes by helping children study them systematically and effectively by on-line system. We expect this e-learning system would be a new nutrition education system to make nutrition education more active.

유아 언어교육에 대한 교사의 인식 및 요구 - 유아 언어교육의 목적, 내용, 방법, 평가 및 요구를 중심으로 (The early childhood teacher's recognition and demand on children's language education - focused on purpose, contents, method, evaluation and the required facts of children's language education)

  • This study had been done to investigate that early childhood teacher's recognition and demand on children's language education and 20 early childhood teachers were interviewed individually who work at state-owned/ public-owned/ private-owned kindergardens residing G, I, and K cities in Jeollabuk-do. First, the purpose of language education was recognized on the formations of essence, concept, expertise, technique and attitude toward language. Second, the contents of language education must be selected by children's experience that they encounter in ordinary life based on oral language and written language. Besides, early childhood teachers strongly felt the necessity of new contents of language education, although they thought of insufficiency of their knowledge on the issue. Third, the method of language education was mainly accomplished by teaching material and objects. Besides, they were aware of looking for new organized teaching methods and also concerned of the importances of teacher's attitude and group formation method. Fourth, the evaluation of language education must be acquired by desirable evaluation method that was based on the recognition of children's unrealistic language capabilities, even though they had recognized the difficulty to do because of knowledge insufficiency. They also showed the tendency of negligence on the evaluation of language education. Fifth, the required facts for early childhood teachers on language education were development and supply of teaching materials, demand on teacher's education and appropriate evaluation method, and cognitive changes on language education by public toward the written language.

소아병원의 정맥주사팀 활동에 대한 조사연구 (A Study on the Activities of IV Team In the Children's Hospital)

  • Background : In many university hospitals, intravenous(IV) therapies and samplings had been one of the most important works of doctors who are in training. However, recently as patient oriented care is becoming more weighted for qualified health service IV therapies should be the works of specialized personnels. This study was conducted to investigate the medical staff's perception on IV team, to survey patient or parent's expectation on IV team, and to assess the frequency of IV therapy related complications and the characteristics of phlebitis among the hospitalized children. Methods : We collected data prospectively before the start of IV team from February 22 to February 29. 1999 and from September 27 to October 3, 1999, 6 months after beginning of IV team at Seoul National University Children's Hospital. IV team started their activities from March 1, 1999. General pediatric wards were not included for the IV and sampling team and oncology ward and surgical units were all included for the IV and sampling team's work. IV specialist was the well trained nurse who had been working in the field of pediatrics especially for the oncology patients. The subjects of this study were medical staffs who were working in children's hospital as doctors in training and patients who were treated with IV therapies in children's hospital during the same period. Results : Doctors responded that IV team need to be organized for IV care and expected IV team could reduce their work load. Parents of patients also responded IV team was very improtant to perform high quality IV care. They had willingness to pay extra charge for IV team care. In the wards where IV team did not work, they used various kinds and sizes of catheters, but in the wards where IV team worked, they needed just one or two types of catheters. As the exact role of IV team is not still established, job description is needed between the IV team and medical doctors. In the aspects of medical costs. it could save the materials for the IV also. Conclusion : This study showed that IV team could increase patient's satisfaction with decrease of medical doctors work load and concomitantly could save the costs of IV materials. And for the expansion of the IV team, job description is needed and for the total care of the children IV specialist and sampling team should expand their roles.

과학영재교육센터 교육체제의 효율적인 운영방안에 관한 연구 (A Study for Advancing the Educational System of the Science Education Center for Gifted Youth)

  • The purpose of this study was to suggest an advanced system for educating scientifically gifted children in the Center for Science Talented Education at Kyungpook National University. Several suggestions based on analysis of current identifying-process and instructional materials for scientifically gifted children were provided for advancing the educational system of the center. First, this study suggested a three-step procedure to identify procedure emphasized students reasoning skills as one of important characteristics of the gifted child. Second, this study provided an instructional model for developing hypothesis testing skills in scientifically gifted children. The model was originally based on Lawson's scientific reasoning processes and learning cycle mode. Third, this study also suggested an effective administration system of the Center for Science Talented Education. Further, this study suggested effective ways on research works for advancing the center, educating instructors, the cyber center for remote education, and international co-works for developing the gifted children's potential abilities.

박물관 교육 프로그램이 유아의 자아존중감 및 미술능력 향상에 미치는 효과 (The Effectiveness of a Museum Education Program : Enhancing Self-Esteem and Art Ability in Young Children)

  • Twenty-five 6- and 7-year-old children participated in the museum education program held at two museums attached to Sookmyung Women's University in Seoul, Korea. Each museum was named in honor of a great artist; i.e. Moon, Shin and Jung, Youngyang and his/her artistic works. The main museum education activities included guided observation, discussion, and expressive activities using various materials. It consisted of eight sessions of about two hours each. Results showed that the self-esteem and artistic ability of children that participated in the museum education program increased more than the control group. These results affirmed the value of museum education for young children.

4, 5세 유아의 놀이감 종류에 따른 가상이야기 꾸미기 (Narrative Structure of 4-and 5-year-olds by Type of Play Materials)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between age, internal state information, and narrative structure. Another purpose was to examine how the kinds of replica play and story props affect the theme of children's narratives. The subjects were 36 4-and 5-year-olds. Children's narratives were audiotaped and analyzed accordmg to narrative structure, themes and internal state factors. The results indicated that 5-year-olds showed well organized narrative structure such as a descriptive narrative and a primary plotted narrative whereas 4-year-old presented no response and a descriptive narrative. Also, 5-year-olds used more internal state information in the narratives than 4-year-olds. The replica figures serve to remind the chiidren of story themes: the children with police props presented negative themes while children with playground props showed positive themes.

초등학교 안전교육 실태와 발전방향에 대한 연구 (A Study on Safety Training Program at Elementary School : with an Emphasis on Curriculum Changes)

  • Recently, children's deaths are found to be mostly caused by various accidents in Korea. But it is in reality that the safety training are very roughly conducted, and even contemporarily appropriate training materials are not sufficiently furnished contrary to the increasing significance of the safety training to reduce the children's accidental risks. This study is to compare and analyze the safety training courses of domestic and overseas elementary schools and various safety training materials. This study is purposed ultimately to reduce the accidental risks of elementary school students by suggesting the future development direction. It is concluded in this study that more appropriate safety training courses and materials should be provided to train the students to habituate their safe behaviors with a view to protect the elementary school students against the accidents. In addition, the safety training should be conducted consistently by reflecting the students' characters, and the pertinent training materials should be developed for the students' spontaneous learning and for more practical preventive training.

국내 시판 유아동 보건용 마스크 구조 및 제품 치수 비교 연구 (A Study of the Structures and Product Dimensions of Hygienic Face Mask for Infants and Children in the Domestic Market)

  • The COVID-19 pandemic has led to the normalization of mask-wearing worldwide, and young children are particularly vulnerable to respiratory diseases. Children's masks come in various sizes and shapes, causing confusion among consumers who struggle to find products that can accommodate their child's unique physical conditions. This research aims to analyze the shape and dimensions of health masks designed for young children. A total of 67 mask varieties were collected, and 58 were subjected to analysis. The masks were found to have two primary shapes: foldable and beak-like, with sizes categorized as small and extra-small. The majority of masks were manufactured in Korea, and the size labeling systems varied among manufacturers. The mask materials were non-woven fabric or polypropylene, and there was diversity in terms of the adjustable earbands and the use of additional accessories. The dimensions of the masks varied depending on their shape, with significant differences in the weight and the length of the wire holes. Subsequent research should focus on conducting wearability evaluations to verify the dimensional suitability of commercially available children's health masks based on shape and size. Additionally, this study aims to provide foundational data that can assist in the development of children's masks with size ranges that differentiate them from adult masks and cater to specific age groups.

영유소아기 가정사고의 원인과 예방에 관한 연구 (A Study on Home Accidents of Preschool Children (from 1 to 6) in Korea and Prevention Measures)

  • Necessity and purpose of this study: In a large number of countries it has been founded that children′s domestic accidents are at great risk year by year In the United States, they publish detailed accident statistics at regular intervals. In Korea. there have been just a few studies on Accidents-At-Home of preschool children. But it can not be said that there have been any systematic statistics about this area. and any study accounting for the relations of home accidents and preschool: children in detail, Therefore, the purpose of this thesis was focused on the inquire of these relations so as to make a little contribution to Korean preschool children′s health and security measures. So, the detail-purposes are to study following questions and to testify following hypothesis. Prob. 1. What the types of accidents of Preschool children, where the place accidents occurred\ulcorner Prob. 2. What the cause of accidents and, the main factors of the cause\ulcorner Prob. 3. How about the number of their children. the disparity of age among their children and mother′s age in each case of accidents\ulcorner hypothesis 1. There will be differences in the density of protection of parents according to the number of their children. hypothesis 2, There will be differences in accident-types and first-aid methods according to parents socio-economic background. Method; This study employed the interviewing survey method, in which 130 preschool children ware random.sampled, who visit hospital to have medical care. These children (from 1 to 6 years olds) were selected at the emergency room of five hospitals in Seoul (Hosp: Severance, Woosok, Medical Center, Hanyang Medical College Hospital and Seoul Medical Col1age Hospital during study-period (from Aug. to Oct, 1973). Four head nurses in above Hospitals were employed as accident members for this study. Concerning research analysis, the method of hypothesis verifying is used. Conclusion: As two American experts on this subject. Dr, Raymond Neuter and Mr. Ross Mc Garland have drawn attention to "minor epidemics of accidents" that could be avoided by fairly simple measures. preschool children′s accidents could be avoided by parents fair attentions. In other words, one of the most common causes of preschool children′s accidents derived from their parent′s inattention. Therefore, one important task on this subject is to instruct the parents fairly about the children′s accidents. Many accidents could be avoided by the exorcist of a little self-discipline. Also, as much the prevention of accidents is important, as the first-aid Is Important and necessary at the case of the accidents. So, the methods of proper first-aid treatment must be emphasized, and must be taught in school, especially in girls school. And there could be other means available for prevention of accidents. Firstly, the public authorities can take legal measures. More stringent safety standards can be made enforceable by law. Building materials and equipment for domestic us: ought to meat minimum safety criteria at all times. Next the public itself has to understand the seriousness of the problem, and here the dissemination of information is of great importance. All mass media should be brought into play to promote greater public awareness of the question. At last, it will be needed to obtain more detailed epidemiological data through additional surveys and statistics after this study.
