Results: The average times for watching television and using the internet in the children were 11.44 hours and 5.89 hours per week, respectively. Children's time watching television was influenced by parents' time watching television, children's gender (girl), and parents' educational needs. Children's television dependency was influenced by parents' educational needs, parents' time watching television, and parents' age (under 36 years). Time using the internet and internet dependency in the children were influenced by parents' educational needs, family monthly income (under 3 million won), and parents' guidance for children on watching television. Conclusion: The findings indicate that elementary school children's media use is influenced by parental media use, parents' educational needs, and parents' media guidance for children. Therefore parental factors should be considered in developing approaches to provide education programs to prevent media overuse in children.

The subjects consisted of 120 families with respiratory infected children in one university- affiliated hospital in Daegu. Data were collected through self-report questionnaires which were developed to investigate the educational needs of the families of the hospitalized children with respiratory problems and nurses' educational performances perceived by the families. The data were analyzed by an SPSS program. The results were as follows: 1. Among the educational needs of the families, the item of the diagnostic test was ranked as the highest one. Among the degree of nurses' educational performances perceived by the families, the item of the diagnosis was ranked as the highest one. 2. The educational needs of the families were very high, but the degree of nurses' educational performances perceived by families was relatively low. 3. The educational needs of the families were not influenced by the general characteristics of the subjects. These results suggest that the educational needs of the families was different to the degree of nurses' educational performances perceived by the families of the hospitalized children with respiratory problems. • It is generally blown that foster children often have special needs such as disability and psycho-behavioral problems. It is also known that foster parents will provide better care with those children when they are coping well with foster children with special needs. The purpose of the study was to explore the perceptions foster parents have and what factors affect their decisions to care for children with special needs. Literature review reveals that successful foster parent care is related to the foster parents' motivation, role perception, and social support systems. foster parents' motivation is related to 'altruism toward foster child', 'the egocentrism of the foster parent', 'previous experience with adoption' and 'the past experiences of the foster parent'. Role perceptions of the foster parent consist of 'supporting the internal system of the foster child' and 'supporting the external system of the foster child'. The social support system is characterized as the limited notions of a family oriented concept. In addition, a foster parent's decision to look after special-needs children is related to their motivation while the decision to foster disabled children is related to the levels of available social support systems as well as motivation. The results of the study implies that the motivation level and that of social support system are closely related to different aspects of the special-needs foster child; this factor should also be considered when recruiting foster parents or placing special needs children.

  • This study has been performed to review pre-school children's needs for privacy within normal residential space. In this study, there were three circumstances in which children need to stay alone without being interrupted by their parents; First, they strongly want to be stay quiet until relieving their anger or fear, shortly after disciplined and impugned by their parents. Second, infant children need to obtain their own territory in order to demonstrate ownership and dignity in their sley space. Third, there are also special circumstances of privacy needs among families with intrusive parents such as alcoholics and heavy smokers, or for the children of disability. In Korea, it is presumed that more than 60 percent the pre-school children aging three to six are in deficit of privacy for relieving their emotional disturbance, but no research has been documented for the case of disabled or interrupted children. Therefore in this study, it was primarily proposed that empirical studies need to be peformed among Korean preschoolers, in order to evaluate privacy needs in the perspectives of ordinary family lives, individual household behaviors, and special conditions of disability or offensive family members.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the current status of discharge education and nursing needs of children after musculoskeletal surgery. Methods: The literature from research databases was reviewed and analyzed (using PubMed, RISS review, KISS, and Dbpia). Results: Children who have undergone musculoskeletal surgery face physical challenges due to the effects of splints and immobilization, and experience pain for a long time. Therefore, home care after discharge is of paramount importance in these cases. The discharge education needs of each patient vary with regard to the topic and period. Discharge education should be systematic and consistent, with an emphasis on understanding the needs of the patients and parents. Conclusion: While there are studies on the nursing needs of adult musculoskeletal surgery patients at discharge, studies on discharge nursing needs in children who have undergone musculoskeletal surgery are still insufficient. It is necessary to specifically identify the educational needs of parents of children undergoing musculoskeletal surgery. Interventions that improve the voluntary participation of patients and parents in active self-care need to be developed.
