  • Visual evaluation of chest radiograph images is the most practical and effective method. This study compared the Body Mass Index, waist circumference, and mAs with chest radiographs of 351 women. The Bureau of Radiological Health method was used to evaluate the image quality of chest X-ray images by anatomical and physical methods. The average age of the subjects was $30.17{\pm}4.73$ and the average waist circumference was $66.91{\pm}4.67cm$. The mean Body Mass Index value was $20.21{\pm}2.23$, the mean value of mAs was $3.04{\pm}0.78$, and the mean value of Bureau of Radiological Health was $79.83{\pm}8.45$. When the Body Mass Index value increased, waist circumference and mAs mean value increased. The mean value of Body Mass Index was statistically significant(p<0.05) in Group 4 compared to Groups 1 and 2, with increasing Body Mass Index. Exposure control of the automatic exposure control system is considered to be well performed according to body thickness or Body Mass Index at the time of chest radiography. As the Body Mass Index increases, the thickness of the body increases and the breast thickness of the woman also increases. Therefore, it is considered that the exposure amount is changed by the automatic exposure control device to affect the image quality.

  • ROC(Receiver Operating Characteristic)curve is the method that estimate detected insignificant signal from the human's sense of sight, it has been raised excellent results. In this study, we evaluate image quality and equipment character by obtaining a chest image from CR(Computed Radiography) and DDR(Direct Digital radiography) using the human chest phantom, The parameter of exposure for obtaining chest image was 120 kVp/3.2 mAs and the SID(Source to Image Distance) was 180cm. The images were obtained by CR(AGFA MD 4.0 General plate, JAPAN) and DDR(HOLOGIC nDirect Ray, USA). Using some pieces of Aluminum and stone for expressing regions, then attached them on the heart, lung and thoracic vertebrae of the phantom. 29 persons hold radiology degrees were participated in ROC analysis. As a result of the ROC analysis, TPF(true positive fraction) and FPF(false positive fraction) of DDR and CR are 0.552 and 0.474 and 0.629 and 0.405, respectively. By using the results, the ROC curve of CR has higher image quality than DDR. According to the theory, DDR has the higher image quality than CR in chest X-ray image. But, CR has the higher image quality than DDR. quality of DDR inserted the enhance board. The results confirmed that image post-processing is important element decipherment of clinical.

  • The patients who had been operated total mastectomy are different from general women in their breasts thickness due to breast surgery. As a result, digital chest image from total mastectomy patients will be different attenuation. The main objective for this study is to show that a proper Ion chamber standard combination measuring MTF which is objective basis for Digital image, when be x-ray for total mastectomy patient. We have designed the unique number that shown Left is 1, Right is 2, Center is 3 and have put the edge phantom on detector ion chamber. Lastly, we have obtained experiment images. The evaluations of all image quality have measured by 50% MTF of spatial resolution and absorption dose using Matlab(R2007a). The result showed that average exposure condition, MTF value, absorption dose for 1+3 and 2+3 combinations were 2.745 mAs, 1.925 lp/mm, 0.688 mGy. Consequently, that showed high MTF, DQE and low dose than other combinations. Therefore, a proper changes of ion chambers are able to improve image quality and to reduce radiation exposure when be X-ray for total mastectomy patients. Also, it will be possible to standard for application chamber combination and utilization on clinical detection.

  • The use of tin filters as a way to reduce the medical radiation in computed tomography (CT). However, due to the changed X-ray spectrum with the use of tin filters, disease diagnosis could be affected because it appears as images of different impressions from previous images. Therefore, this study evaluates the changes in images when using tin filter and high pitch in chest low-dose CT. In this study, images were acquired in groups of three for comparison. Group 1 did not apply to tin filter, and used the existing pitch 0.8. Group 2 used a tin filter, pitch 0.8, Group 3 used a tin filter, and pitch 2.5. To compare the image quality, the natural image quality evaluator (NIQE) and the blind/referenceless image quality evaluator (BRISQUE) were used among the blind quality evaluation factors depended on a no-reference basis. As a result, the NIQE values were low in the order of Group 1, Group 3, and Group 2. BRISQUE values were low in the order of Group 3, Group 2 and Group 1. This study confirms the superiority of images of tin filter and high pitch techniques in chest low-dose CT, which is considered to be a fundamental study for acquiring accurate images of patients with difficult breathing control.

  • This study was purpose to method that applies for improving the image quality in CT and X-ray scan, especially in the lung region. Also, we researched the parameters of the image before and after applying for Histogram Equalization (HE) such as mean, median values in the histogram. These techniques are mainly used for all type of medical images such as for Chest X-ray, Low-Dose Computed Tomography (CT). These are also used to intensify tiny anatomies like vessels, lung nodules, airways and pulmonary fissures. The proposed techniques consist of two main steps using the MATLAB software (R2021a). First, the technique should apply for the process of normalization for improving the basic image more correctly. In the next, the technique actively rearranges the intensity of the image contrast. Second, the Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization (CLAHE) method was used for enhancing small details, textures and local contrast of the image. As a result, this paper shows the modern and improved techniques of HE and some advantages of the technique on the traditional HE. Therefore, this paper concludes that various techniques related to the HE can be helpful for many processes, especially image pre-processing for Machine Learning (ML), Deep Learning (DL).

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of virtual grid software (VGS). The purpose of this study is to evaluate the changes in energy and object thickness by dividing the use of VGS into two cases (Without-VGS) without using a movable grid. We attempted to determine the effectiveness of VGS by acquiring images using a chest phantom and a thigh phantom and analyzing SNR and CNR. In the chest phantom and femoral phantom, the tube flow was fixed at 2.5 mAs, and the tube voltage was changed by 10 kVp from 60 to 100 kVp to measure SNR and CNR, and SNR was about 1.09 to 8.86% higher in the chest phantom than in Without-VGS, and CNR was 4.18 to 14.56% higher in the VGS than in Without-VGS. And in the femoral phantom, SNR was about 9.78 to 18.05% higher in VGS than in Without-VGS, and CNR was 21.07 to 44.44% higher in VGS than in Without-VGS. The tube voltage was fixed at 70 kVp in the chest phantom and the femoral phantom, and the amount of tube current was changed at 2.5 to 16 mAs, respectively, and after X-ray irradiation, SNR and CNR were measured in the chest phantom, which was about 1.49 to 11.11% higher in VGS than in Without-VGS, and CNR was 4.76 to 13.40% higher in VGS than in Without-VGS. And in the femoral phantom, SNR was about 2.22 to 17.38% higher in VGS than in Without-VGS, and CNR was 13.85 to 40.46% higher in VGS than in Without-VGS. Therefore, if an inspection is required with a mobile X-ray imaging device, it is believed that good image quality can be obtained by using VGS in an environment where it is difficult to use a mobile grid, and it is believed that the use of mobile X-ray devices can be increased.

  • This study was conducted to improve the problems of exposure dose and image reading applied to patients due to the incorrect use of AEC during chest radiography. Images were acquired by dividing the case where AEC was used as the test condition and the case where AEC was not used. As a result of the study, the dose was reduced by 1.17% in 110 kVp without AEC than with AEC, 17.2% decrease at 100 kVp, 30.19% decrease at 90 kVp, and 46.45% decrease at 80 kVp. There was a significant difference in the statistical values according to the tube voltage change in the lung, trachea, and heart SNR average values with AEC and without AEC 110 kVp, but the difference in image quality was insignificant in actual images. When AEC was not applied at the same tube voltage, the dose could be reduced by 17.2% while maintaining the image quality similar to that of with AEC at 100 kVp without AEC. Therefore, rather than relying on AE conditions during chest radiographic examination, it is considered that the conditions should be considered for the examination while lowering the dose by selecting an appropriate tube voltage.

  • This study analyzes the 'performance efficiency' of AI-based reading assistance systems in the field of radiology by measuring their 'time behavior' properties. Due to the increase in medical images and the limited number of radiologists, the adoption of AI-based solutions is escalating, stimulating a multitude of studies in this area. Contrary to the majority of past research which centered on AI's diagnostic precision, this study underlines the significance of time behavior. Using 50 chest X-ray PA images, the system processed images in an average of 15.24 seconds, demonstrating high consistency and reliability, which is on par with leading global AI platforms, suggesting the potential for significant improvements in radiology workflow efficiency. We expect AI technology to play a large role in the field of radiology and help improve overall healthcare quality and efficiency.

  • Thin-film transistor (TFT) arrays for an x-ray detector require quite different design concept from that of the conventional active-matrix liquid crystal devices (AM-LCDs). In this paper anew design of TFT array which uses only SiNx for passivation layer is described to meet the detector performance and the product availability simultaneously. For the purpose of optimizing the design parameters of the TFT array, a Spice simulation was performed. As a result, some parameters, such as the TFT width, the data line capacitance, and the storage capacitance, were able to be fixed. The other parameters were decided within a permissible range of the TFT process especially the photolithography process and the wet etch process. Then we adapted the TFT array which had been produced by the proposed design to our prototype model (FDXD-1417 and evaluated it clinically by comparing with a commercial model (EPEX, Hologic, Beford, USA). The results say that our prototype model is slightly better than EPEX system in chest PA images. So we can prove the technical usefulness and the commercial values of the proposed TFT design.

  • In fine-tuning-based transfer learning, the size of the dataset may affect learning accuracy. When a dataset scale is small, fine-tuning-based transfer-learning methods use high computing costs, similar to a large-scale dataset. We propose a mid-level feature extractor that retrains only the mid-level convolutional layers, resulting in increased efficiency and reduced computing costs. This mid-level feature extractor is likely to provide an effective alternative in training a small-scale medical image dataset. The performance of the mid-level feature extractor is compared with the performance of low- and high-level feature extractors, as well as the fine-tuning method. First, the mid-level feature extractor takes a shorter time to converge than other methods do. Second, it shows good accuracy in validation loss evaluation. Third, it obtains an area under the ROC curve (AUC) of 0.87 in an untrained test dataset that is very different from the training dataset. Fourth, it extracts more clear feature maps about shape and part of the chest in the X-ray than fine-tuning method.
