제주지역에서 파종기에 따른 청예피의 사료수량 및 조성분 변화 (Effect of Seeding Date on Forage Yield and Chemical Composition of Echinochloa crusgalli var. Frumentacea(Roxb) Wight in Jeju Region)

  • In order to identify the growth characterization, the yield and chemical composition of Jeju barnyard grass (Echinochloa crusgalli var. fiurnentacea(Roxb) Wight) based on seeding date in Jeju region, seeding carried out the 10-day intervals from March 27 to September 30 in 2000, respectively. Plant height was 143.2 cm, showing the highest on seeding date, April 6 among that of any other seeding date. On the other hand, those of early and late seeding gradually decrease. Plant height was 119.2 an in May 16 seeding. The results of stem diameter, number of withering leaves, number of leaves and fresh weight per plant were similar to those of the plant heights. The yield of fresh, dry matter forage, crude protein and TDN found the highest on April 6 seeding, 63.5 MT/ha, 13.9 MTha, 1.1 MT/ha, and 7.6 MT/ha, respectively. In early and late seeding, the yield was gradually decreased. In seeding May 16, the yield found .38.2 MTIha in fresh forage, 6.2 MTha in dry matter forage, 0.7 MT/ha in crude protein and 3.7 MTha in TDN, respectively. According to delaying the seeding date, March 27 to May 16, the contents of crude protein (from 7.9 to 10.8%), ether extract (from 4.6 to 6.0%), nitrogen free extract (from 45.1 to 46.5%), and TDN (from 54.2 to 60.8%) were gradually increased, respectively. On the other hand, those of crude fiber (from 28.9 to 25.6%) and crud ash (from 13.5 to 11.2%) were decreased. These results showed that April 6 was the optimum seeding date with the sole object of feed production of Jeju barnyard grass under the environmental condition like as atmospheric phenomena and soil in Jeju region. Antimicrobial activity of Gynura segetum's leaf extracts and its active fractions

  • $Gynura$ $segetum$ (Lour.) Merr. ($Compositae$) is a well recognized medicinal plant in Indonesia and Malaysia. It is believed to have an anticoagulant effect and is used in treating snake-bites, inflammations and other skin afflictions. This study was carried out to evaluate the antimicrobial effects of $Gynura$ $segetum$ leaves extracts and its fractions. The chemical compositions of the active extracts were also determined. The antimicrobial activities of different solvent extracts of leaves of $Gynura$ $segetum$ were evaluated using the agar well-diffusion method. The Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) of the active subfractions was determined by the tube dilution method. Gas Chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis was carried out to identify the chemical compositions of the active extracts. The ethyl acetate fraction and its subfraction E4 performed potent antimicrobial activities and fifteen known chemical constituents were identified by GCMS analysis as 4-vinylphenol, 1-tetradecene, phenol, 2,4-bis(1,1-dimethylethyl), 1-hexadecene, E-15-heptadecenal, hexadecanoic acid, 1,2-benzenedicarboxylic acid, dibutyl ester, 1-docosene, octadecanoic acid, 1-eicosene, cyclotetracosane, 1,2-benzenedicarboxylic acid, bis(2-ethylhexyl)ester, butanedioic acid, monomethyl ester, niacin and 4-hydroxy-benzoic acid. The results of this study suggested a connection between the antimicrobial activities and the chemical structures. The plant may be used as a potential source for antimicrobial agents.

A Review of Withering in the Processing of Black Tea

  • Purpose: Tea is the most frequently consumed drink worldwide, next to water. About 75% of the total world tea production includes black tea, and withering is one of the major processing steps critical for the quality of black tea. There are two types of tea withering methods: physical and chemical withering. Withering can be achieved by using tat, tunnel, drum, and trough withering systems. Of these, the trough withering system is the most commonly used. This study focuses on the different types of withering, their effect on the various quality attributes of tea, and other aspects of withering methods that affect superior quality tea. Results: During physical withering, tea shoots loose moisture content that drops from approximately 70-80% to 60-70% (wet basis). This leads to increased sap concentration in tea leaf cells, and turgid leaves become flaccid. It also prevents tea shoots from damage during maceration or rolling. During chemical withering, complex chemical compounds break down into simpler ones volatile flavor compounds, amino acids, and simple sugars are formed. Withering increases enzymatic activities as well as the concentration of caffeine. Research indicates that about 15% of chlorophyll degradation occurs during withering. It is also reported that during withering lipids break down into simpler compounds and catechin levels decrease. Improper withering can cause adverse effects on subsequent manufacturing operations, such as maceration, rolling, fermentation, drying, and tea storage. Conclusion: Freshly harvested leaves are conditioned physically and chemically for subsequent processing. There is no specified withering duration, but 14-18 h is generally considered the optimum period. Proper and even withering of tea shoots greatly depends on the standards of plucking, handling, transportation, environmental conditions, time, and temperature. Thus, to ensure consumption of high quality tea, the withering step must be monitored carefully.

Determination of Catechin Compounds in Korean Green Tea Infusions under Various Extraction Conditions by High Performance Liquid Chromatography

  • Liquid chromatographic methods with UV and fluorescence detection have been used to determine the levels of (+)-catechin, (-)-epicatechin, (-)-epicatechin gallate, and (-)-epigallocatechin gallate in Korean green tea infusions. The extracts of Korean green tea leaves or powders in water at various temperatures (100 ${^{\circ}C}$, 80 ${^{\circ}C}$, 60 ${^{\circ}C}$) and time, were washed with chloroform and re-extracted to ethyl acetate. The ethyl acetate phase was dried and re-dissolved in methanol and analyzed. Five catechin compounds were separated by gradient elution. The flavonoids were found decomposed on prolonged extraction, thus exhaustive extraction by a Soxhlet apparatus was found useless for green tea. Some unknown components were found in the extracts at 100 ${^{\circ}C}$. When the green tea was filtered and re-extracted with new fresh water, still some flavonoids were extracted. However, the contents of flavonoids in the third extract were found negligible. The flavonoid extraction rate of green tea powders was higher than that of green tea leaves, but flavonoid decomposition of green tea powders was also faster than that of green tea leaves. The traditional way of drinking green tea was found appropriate in view of flavonoids intake.

인산 시비량이 차풀의 생육과 수량 및 조성분에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Phosphate Application Rate on Growth, Yield and Chemical Composition of Cassia mimosoides var. nomame)

  • 본 연구는 제주도에 있어서 인산 시비량 차이(0, 5, 15, 25, 35 kg/10a)에 따른 차풀의 생육반응, 수량성 및 사료가치를 검토하고, 적정 인산 시비량을 구명하기 위하여 1998년 3월부터1998년 9월까지 시험하였다. 개화기까지의 일수는 인산 시비량이 증가됨에 따라 점차적으로 지연되었다 초장, 본당 분지수 및 엽수, 경직경, 엽록소 측정치 등은 인산 시비량이 증가됨에 따라 점차적으로 증가하였으나, 본당 고엽수는 적어지는 경향이었다. 생초수량은 무인산구에서 3,291kg/10a이었으나 인산 시비량이 많아짐에 따라 점차적으로 증가되어 25kg/10a과 35kg/10a 시비구에서는 각각 10a당 5,200 kg과 5,230kg이었으나, 두처리간에는 유의성이 없었다. 건초, 조단백질 및 TDN수량도 생초수량의 변화와 비슷한 경향이었다. 조단백질, 조지방, 가용성무질소물, TDN 함량은 인산 시비량이 증가됨에 따라 많아지는 경향이었으나, 조회분과 조섬유 함량은 낮아졌다.

한국산 잎담배 중의 몇가지 무기성분에 관한 조사 연구 (A Study on Several Mineral Elements in Korea Tobacco Leaves)

  • 1978년 국내산 잎담배에 대하여 Ha,Mg,Fe,Ui, Cu, Mn, Zn의 함량을 조사연구하였다. 그 결과 Mg은 5370$\mu{g}/g-7640\mu{g}/g$으로 Burley>Flue-cured>Native의 순이었다. Mn과 Fe는 210$\mu{g}/g-1290\mu{g}/g$, 330$\mu{g}/g-590\mu{g}/g$으로 Burley >Flue -cured >Native의 순이었다.Zn는 50$\mu{g}/g-100\mu{g}/g$으로서 Native>Burley>Flue -cured의 순이었으며 Na, Ni, Cu는 세품종이 비슷하였으며, Na는 200~300$\mu{g}/g$,Ni는 $10\mu{g}/g$, Cu는 7~9$\mu{g}/g$이었다. 이들 무기성분의 함량과 등급과는 Na, Mg, Mn, Ni, Cu는 후옅 5, 3,1등의 순으로 감소하는 경향을 보이다가 박엽 1,3,5등의 순으로 점차로 증가하는 상향곡선으로 나타났다. 등급과 무기성분과의 상관관계는 Hicks, SC-72, Va 115세품종이 Mg와 0.l%수준에서 고도의 유의성이 있었다.

박태기나무의 잎으로부터 피부멜라닌 색소생성 억제성분의 분리 (The Isolation of the Inhibitory Constitutents on Melanin Polymer Formation from the Leaves of Cercis chinensis)

  • Tyrosinase plays an important role in the process of melanin polymer biosynthesis. Therefore, the enzyme inhibitors have been of great concern as cosmetics to have skin-whitening effects on the local hyperpigmentation. During the search for new inhibitory compounds on melanin polymer biosynthesis from natural sources, MeOH extracts of 589 higher plants were tested for the inhibitory effect on tyrosinase activity by the muschroom tyrosinase assay in vitro. Among plants tested, the leaves of Cercis chinensis exhibited potent inhibitory effect on mushroom tyrosinase activity. Subsequently seven active compounds were isolated from the ethyl acetate soluble part of acetone extract of the leaves of C. chinensis by the activity guided fractionation monitoring the inhibitory effect on tyrosinase activity. Their chemical structures were identified as $kaempferol-3-0-{\alpha}-L-rhamnoside$, quercitrin, $myricetin-3-0-{\alpha}-L-rhamnoside$, myricetin-3-0-(2'-O-galloyl)- ${\alpha}$ -L-rhamopyranoside (desmanthin), (-)-epicatechin-3-0-gallate, (-)-epigallocatechin-3-0-gallate, and methyl gallate on the basis of the speculation of spectral data and chemical reaction. Among the flavonol rhamnosides, myricetin-3-0-(2'-O-galloyl)- -L-rhamnoside(desmanthin) showed most potent inhibitory effect on tyrosinase activity and the structure of B-ring in flavonol moiety was related to the activity. (-)-Epigallocatechin-3-O-gallate having pyrogallol group in flavan-3-ol moiety exhibited more potent inhibitory effect than (-)-epicatechin-3-0-gallate having catechol group in flavan-3-ol moiety on mushroom tyrosinase activity.

생산 연도 및 지역별 황색종 잎담배의 이화학성 평가 (Evaluation of Physicochemical Properties of Flue-cured Leaf Tobacco during $2000{\sim}2004$ Crop Years at Various Growing Areas)

  • To get the information of flue-cured leaf, the chemical constituents, quality indices, leaf color and the effects of climatic factors on the physicochemical properties of leaf produced from 2000 to 2004 crop years at 6 growing areas were analysed. The average leaf chemical contents for 5 years were as follows ; nicotine 2.22%, total sugar 28.0%, total nitrogen 1.89%, ether extracts 6.37% and chlorine 0.38%. The nicotine and total nitrogen contents were low while the total sugar were high as compared with KT&G recommended contents(nicotine ; $2.5{\sim}3.0%$, total nitrogen; $2.0{\sim}2.5%$, total sugar ; below 25.0%). The variations of physicochemical properties among crop years were high while those of growing areas relatively low. The nicotine content of leaf was negatively correlated to the rainfalls in June and July sugar content was negatively correlated to the average air temperature in June and July according to crop years. The orange colored leaves were produced under the drought and long sunshine weather condition while the lemon colored leaves were produced under the contrary condition according to crop years. Blending the different crop year's leaves in the proper way may be beneficial to produce of uniform and consistent cigarettes. It is considered that the increasing of nitrogen fertilizer or improving of nitrogen uptake may be available to increase the nicotine and nitrogen and decrease the total sugar contents of flue-cured leaf tobacco.

  • Phytochemical investigation on the leaves of Pileostegia viburnoides Hook.f.et Thoms led to the isolation of twenty-five compounds, and their structures were identified as n-dotriacontane (1), taraxeryl acetate (2), friedelin (3), epifriedelinol (4), canophyllal (5), stigmast-4-en-3-one (6), stigmasterol (7), (24R)-5A-stigmastane-3,6-dione (8), ursolic acid (9), pomolic acid (10), umbelliferone (11), 4-epifriedelin (12), n-octatriacontanol (13), ${\beta}$-amyrin (14), ${\alpha}$-amyrin (15), taraxerol (16), nonadecanol (17), friedelane (18), arachic acid (19), protocatechuic acid (20), n-pentatriacontanol (21), hexadecanoic acid (22), vincosamide (23), daucosterol (24), and skimming (25), respectively. To our best knowledge, compounds 1, 2, 12, 13, 17 - 19 and 21-23 were new within Saxifragaceae family. Compounds 15, 16, and 20 were produced from this genus for the first time. Compounds 4, 14 and 25 were first obtained from species P. viburnoides and compounds 3, 5 - 11, and 24 were achieved from the leaves of P. viburnoides for the first time. Furthermore, the anti-neuroinflammatory activity of these isolates was evaluated.

건조조건에 따른 오리엔트종 잎담배의 품질과 화학적 특성 (The Effects of Curing Variables on Quality and Chemical Properties of Oriental Tobacco)

  • 오리엔트종 연초에서 전조조건에 따른 품질과 화학성분의 변화를 구명하기 위하여 수확엽을 황변시킨 후 각각 벌크건조 4$0^{\circ}C$, 5$0^{\circ}C$, 6$0^{\circ}C$구, 양건 및 음건으로 처리하여 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 품질은 음건엽이 유의하게 낮았으며, 양건과 벌크건조엽은 차이가 적었다. 2. 음건엽은 양건엽과 벌크건조엽에 비해 암모니아태 질소, 단백태 질소, 전질소, 회분함량 및 pH가 높고 당함량이 낮았으며, 석유에텔 추출물과 휘발성 유기산함량은 차이가 적었다. 3. 석유에텔 추출물, 휘발성 유기산과 대부분의 정유성분 중성부함량은 벌크건조 온도가 높을수록 감소하거나 변화가 없었다. 4. 오리엔트종 잎담배의 품질평가 지수로 (총 휘발성 유기산(mg/100g)+석유에텔추출물(%)) / (회분(%)+pH) $\times$ 10 이 추천된다.
