  • The surface structure of the electrospun polymer fibers depends on the polymer concentration, the type of solvent used, applied voltage and so on. To make a desired surface, it is important to understand the effects of the physicochemical properties to form a stable Taylor cone and jet dispensation. We observed the formation of Taylor cone and a consequent structure of fiber by controlling the parameters of applied voltage, solution concentration, solvent and collector effectively. Once the surfaces were fabricated, the structures were analyzed using optical imaging technologies. As the solution concentration was increased, the smooth fibers were formed. In addition, different solvent ratios determined the viscosity and the surface tension of solutions. As a result, with decreased viscosity and increased surface tension, thin fibers were obtained by electrospinning. Furthermore the aligned nanofiber was successfully created by using drum collector.

  • In this paper, the image sensor using the a-Si:H TFT is proposed. The optimum amorphous silicon thin film is deposited using plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD). TFT and photodiode both with the thin film are fabricated and form image sensor. The photodiode shows that $I_{dark}\;is\;{\sim}10^{-13}\;A,\;I_{photo}\;is\;{\sim}10^{-9}\;A\;and\;I_{photo}/I_{dark}\;is\;{\sim}10^4$, respectively. In the case of a-Si:H TFT, it indicates that $I_{on}/I_{off}\;is\;10^6$, the drain current is a few ${\mu}A\;and\;V_{th}\;is\;2{\sim}4$ volts. For the analysis on the fabricated image sensor, the reverse bias of -5 volts in ITO of photodiode and $70 {\mu}sec$ pulse in the gate of TFT are applied. The image sensor with good property was conformed through the measured photo/dark current.

  • Scintillation crystals for industrial field are used in fundamental physics i.e. nuclear and high energy physics experiments besides the medical imaging, process control and gauging, container inspection, mineral process etc. For the reason of limited marketability, there are not so many studies with emphasis paced on the crystal growth. The scintillation crystal is an important theme in the studies in the fundamental physics and researchers for crystal growth are expected participate it. The present work is partly supported by a Grant-in-Aid from the Japanese Ministry of Education, Science and Culture.

  • This work presents a boundary estimation approach in electrical impedance imaging for binary-mixture fields based on a parallel structured multi-layer neural network. The interfacial boundaries are expressed with the truncated Fourier series and the unknown Fourier coefficients are estimated with the parallel structure of multi-layer neural network. Results from numerical experiments shows that the proposed approach is insensitive to the measurement noise and has a strong possibility in the visualization of binary mixtures for a real time monitoring.

  • In this study, the thermal degradation properties of polyethylene terephthalate film has been examined by the capacitance, Tan ${\delta}$, thermography, FTIR, and SEM results at temperatures of $90{\sim}170^{\circ}C$ and frequencies of 0.3~3,000 kHz. It was found that the capacitance decreased with increasing thermal imaging temperature, probably caused by weakening of chemical bond with increasing temperature. Tan ${\delta}$ decreased upon increasing temperature from $90^{\circ}C$ to $170^{\circ}C$, probably due to the molecular motion of COOH radical or OH radical. The FT-IR measurement reveals that no structural change of the material occurs upon thermal radiation. The SEM measurement shows that the material is stabilized by thermal decomposition with increasing temperature; however, excessive thermal degradation obstructs the stabilization of the material.

  • Controlling the morphology of a metal nanocrystal is critical to modern materials chemistry because its physical and chemical properties can be easily and widely tuned by tailoring the size and shape. Combined with ease of synthesis and processing, metal nanocrystals with desired morphologies and thus properties are promising candidates for a wide variety of applications in catalysis, sensing, imaging, electronics, and photonics, and medicine. In this talk, I would like to introduce my recent research results on the shape-controlled synthesis of metal nanocrystals using a simple aqueous method. This water-based system provides a number of merits such as simplicity, convenience, and the potential for large-scale production and enables us to synthesize metal nanocrystals with a rich variety of shapes such as truncated octahedron, cubes, bars, octahedrons, and thin plates. The ability to control the shape of metal nanocrystals provides a great opportunity to systematically investigate their catalytic and optical properties.

  • The objective of this paper is to estimate the concentration distribution in flow field inside the pipeline based on electrical impedance tomography. Special emphasis is given to the development of dynamic imaging technique for two-phase field undergoing a rapid transient change. Nonlinearity-compensation extended Kalman filter is employed to cope with unexpected measurement uncertainty. The nonlinearity-compensation extended Kalman filter compensates for the influence of measurement uncertainty and solves the instability of extended Kalman filter. Extensive computer simulations are carried out to show that nonlinearity-compensation extended Kalman filter has enhanced estimation performance especially in the unexpected measurement environment.

  • Organosiloxane based spin on planarizing dielectrics (PTS-E and PTS-R) were developed for application in flat panel displays as a replacement to conformal chemical vapor deposited SiNx. Here we demonstrate the successful use of siloxane-based material as a passivation layer for active matrix $\alpha$-Si thin film transistors (TFT) on both rigid and flexible substrates.

  • Synthesis of the fluorescent Au nanoclusters is reported. The Au nanoclusters were synthesized via reduction of gold ions in reverse micelles with mild reducing agents. The Au nanoclusters show a bright red emission at 640 nm. The fluorescent Au nanoclusters attract great interest for sensor, electronic device and bio-imaging applications because of ultra-small size, high chemical stablity and bright emission. We believe that the fluorescent Au nanoclusters can have optoelectronic applications such as optical down conversion phosphors.

  • Parkinson's disease is the second most common neurodegenerative disorder. It is slowly progressive disease that affects a small area of cells in the mid brain known as the substantia nigra. Gradual degeneration of these cells causes a reduction in a vital chemical known as dopamine. In the diagnosis of Parkinson's disease, it has difficulty in biopsy and limits in radiologic modalities. $^{18}F-FDG$ PET shows various findings from normal to diffuse decrement of FDG uptake. $^{18}F-FDG$ PET is expected to be a evaluation tool in the treatment of Parkinson's disease.
