  • The fluid flow, heat transfer and the local mass fi-action of chemical species in the chemical vapor deposition(CVD) manufacturing process are numerically studied. The deposition of silicon from dilute silane is hydrogen carrier gas in a horizontal CVD reactor is investigated. The effect of inlet carrier gas velocity, mass fraction of silane, susceptor angle on the deposition thickness and uniformity was represented.

  • In the wastewater treatment experiment by anaerobic-aerobic packed bed unit, it was found that the high and stable removal efficiency of nitrogen could be obtained. The extent of nitrogen removal gradually decreased with the rise of recycle ratio and DO concentration. On the other hand, the extent of phosphorus increased with the increase of DO concentration. COD showed high removal efficiency over the entire range tested. The simulation of T-N behavior was carried out satisfactorily by using the kinetic equations for biofilm and the reactor model which considered the packed bed as a plug flow reactor.

  • Recent industrial processes have been complicated and automated. In order to improve the system reliability and solve the limitation of human ability, the necessity of alarm analysis or fault diagnosis has been rapidly grown, A "dictionary" made by a sequence computer programming has been developed as one of the mothods for fault diagnosis in the chemical industrial processes and its usefulness has been proved through the experiment. It also suggests a way to simplity the recent alarm system being complex.g complex.

  • Pentasil zeolites, including ZSM-5, ZSM-8, ZSM-11 and silicalites, were synthesized using various organic cations. Synthesis run was carried out in a Parr pressure reactor of $2{\ell}$ capacity and a self-constructed reactor with a magnetic stirring system. The reactant materials used are colloidal silica (Snowtex), sodium aluminate, sodium chloride, TEA, TPA, TBA, Choline and water. The composition of starting materials and the reaction temperature were found to be important factors for the synthesis of uniform pentasil zeolites.

  • Possibility on carrier-free Fe-59 preparation by Korean TRIGA Mark Ⅱ reactor was investigated, namely average cross section on $Co^{59}$(n,p) $Fe^{59}$ reaction, separation by anion exchange resin and radiochemical purity. Radiochemical purity of Fe-59 separated was checked by the method of ${\gamma}$-ray spectrometry with 256-multichannel pulse height analyzer and of half life determination. This method permits Fe-59 preparation with radiochemical purity of > 99.9%.

  • The oxidation of surrogate mixtures for gasoline fuel was studied numerically in perfectly stirred reactor(PSR) to develope the needed detailed reaction mechanism. The reaction mechanism was assembled with the mechanisms for the oxidation of iso-octane or kerosene. It was shown that the reaction model predicted reasonably well the concentration profiles of fuel and major species reported in the literature. As the addition of kerosene into iso-octane as fuel was increased, the concentrations of $C_2H_2$ and benzene became high. Especially benzene known as a carcinogen appeared at a very high concentration in the flue gases.

  • Methane steam reforming (MSR) was studied in a membrane reactor (MR) with a Pd-based and a porous alumina membranes. MRs showed methane conversion higher than that foresaw by the thermodynamic equilibrium for a traditional reactor (TR). Silica membranes prepared at KRICT were characterized with permeation tests on single gases ($N_2$, $H_2$ and $CH_4$). These silica membranes can be also used for high temperature applications such as $H_2$ separation $CO_2$ hydrogenation for methanol production is another reaction where $H_2O$ selective removal can be performed with these silica membranes.

  • A small-scale solar concentrating system was developed and demonstrated for supplying process heat required in solar thermo chemical reaction. The concentration system consists of a heliostat equipped with a solar tracking device and a dish concentrator. From the initial thermal test of the concentrating system it was found that the system works very well with around 500-600 concentration ratio capable of supplying about 3kW therml energy to the reactor. Once the concentration system was turned on, the reactor temperature rapidly increased over $1,000^{\circ}C$ and could be maintained high enough for solar chemical reaction.
