  • In the present work, it was investigated a behavior of hydrogen embrittlement at the subsurface zones of 590 DP steels by using the micro-Vickers hardness test. The micro-Vickers hardnessess of DP steels were measured to evaluate the degree of embrittlement as the effective hardening depths of subsurface zones with hydrogen charging conditions. The results showed that the distributions of micro-Vickers hardness in width varied from maximum hardness 239.5 Hv to minimum hardness 174 Hv, while the depth of effective hardening layer at the subsurface zones of DP steels was from $320{\mu}m$ to $460{\mu}m$ with hydrogen charging conditions, respectively. It was proposed that the distribution of microhardness be used as the evaluation index of the degree of embrittlement. But the variations of martensite volume fractions were not affected along depth of hardening at the same changing time, hydrogen charging times were appeared as an effective factor of the degree of embrittlement. Therefore, the micro-Vickers hardness test is an attractive tool for evaluation of hydrogen embrittlement at the subsurface zones of these DP steels.

  • In this study, in order to propose a modular method for type IV high aspect ratio modular hydrogen storage vessel, a numerical analysis was conducted on the heat transfer behavior in series and parallel connection methods, and the differences according to each connection method were reviewed. Computational fluid dynamics software was used to check the internal temperature and pressure values of the hydrogen storage container under charging conditions. In terms of thermal safety when charging hydrogen gas, it was confirmed that the parallel modularization method was superior.

  • In this Paper, we propose a method of determining the price for the elastic traffic in the current or future Internet services. First, we investigate the behavior in the consumption of bandwidth of elastic traffic in IP network. Next, we propose a new method to relate the bandwidth usage with the pricing for the elastic traffic, which is based partially or fully on the usage rate of the network bandwidth. Next, we propose an optimal charging function for elastic traffic, which is applicable to any Internet services. Finally, we will illustrate the implication of the work via simple numerical experiments.

  • Dynamics of plasma sheath was analyzed using simple ion fluid model with poison equation. Incident ion current, energy, potential distribution and space charge density profile were calculated as a function of time. The effects of initial floating sheath on the evolution of biased sheath were compared with ideal matrix sheath. The effects of finite rising time of pulse bias voltage on the ion current and energy was studied. The influence of surface charging on the evolution of sheath was also investigated

  • Ball-milling for reactant powders in advance and using an induction heating system for Ni-Al intermetallic coating process are known to enhance the reactivity of combustion synthesis. In this work, the effects of the charging weight ratio of ball to powder in ball-milling for reactant Ni-Al powders and the synthesizing temperature in induction heating on sliding wear behavior of the coating layers are investigated. Sliding wear behavior of the coating layers is examined against a tool steel using a pin-on-disc type sliding wear machine. As results, wear of the coating layer ball-milled without ball was severely worn out at the sliding speed of 2m/s, regardless of the synthesizing temperature in induction heating. However, the wear rate of the coating layers at the sliding speed was remarkably decreased with increasing the charging weight ratio of ball in ball-milling for reactant powders. This can be explained by the fact that the void in the coating layer is disappeared and the coating layer is densified by the ball-milling. The evidence showed that pitting damages were disappeared on the worn surface of ball-milled coating layer. Consequentially, the Ni-Al intermetallic coating layer could have better wear resistance at all sliding speed ranges with the ball-milling for reactant powders in advance.

  • The effect of applied stress, current density and heat-treatment after welding on the time to fracture, fracture behavior was investigated by the method of constant load tensile testing under catholic charging with hydrogen in E.B. welded 250,300 Grade 18% Ni Maraging steel sheet. The main results obtained are as follows: 1. All specimen showed the characteristic delayed failure and the time to fracture showed decreasing tendency with the increase in current density and applied stress. 2. Hydrogen embitterment susceptibility of notched specimen after solution-treatment and aging after welding was more increased than that of aged smooth specimen and as welded specimen. 3. Fracture surface showed a typical intergranular fracture on the border, a dimple pattern in the center of specimen and some quasi-cleavage fracture between the intergranular and the dimple.

  • Based on experimental and theoretical analyses, we suggested a new possibility that the CVD diamond films grow not by the atomic unit but by the charged clusters containing a few hundreds of carbon atoms, which form spontaneously in the gas phase [J. Crysta] Growth 62 (1996) 55]. These hypothetical negatively-charged clusters were experimentally confirmed under a typical hot-filament diamond CVD process. Thin film growth by charged clusters or gas phase colloids of a few nanometers was also confirmed in Si and ZrO₂ CVD and appears to be general in many other CVD processes. Many puzzling phenomena in the CVD process such as selective deposition and nanowire growth could be explained by the deposition behavior of charged clusters. Charged clusters were shown to generate and contribute at least partially to the film deposition by thermal evaporation. Origin of charging at the relatively low temperature was explained by the surface ionization described by Saha-Langmuir equation. The hot surface with a high work function favors positive charging of clusters while that of a low work function favors negative charging.

  • Energy storage capacitors based on dielectric ceramics with superior polarization properties and dielectric constant can provide much higher output power density due to their very fast energy charging/discharging rates, which are particularly suitable for operating pulsed-power devices. For an outstanding energy storage performance of dielectric capacitor, a large recoverable energy density could be derived by introducing a slim polarization-electric field hysteresis loop into dielectric materials by various technical approaches. Many research teams have explored various dielectric capacitor technologies to demonstrate high output power density and ultrafast charging/discharging behavior. This article reviews the recent research progress in high-performance dielectric capacitors for pulsed-power electronic applications.

  • In this study, we analyzed the electric vehicle (EV) purchasing behavior with market segmentation in Seoul using the binary logit model. For the model estimation, the experimental design of SP survey generated 24 scenarios with purchase price, charging station availability, and driving range of EVs. The results of market segmentation analysis indicated that the owners of subcompact and compact size cars were primarily affected by the purchasing price while those of mid and full size cars were more sensitive to the charging station availability. By housing type, the charging station availability was the most important factor for the residents of apartment while the purchase price was the most important factor to choose the EVs. These results presented that the EV supply strategy of the automobile manufacturer should be diversified according to the marketing target and the expansion of the public charging infrastructure should be the top priority in the government policy.

  • This present study deals with the hydrogen embrittlement properties of austenitic Fe-30Mn-0.2C(-1.5Al) high-manganese steels for cryogenic applications. They were electrochemically charged with hydrogen and then subjected to tensile tests for evaluating hydrogen embrittlement behavior. Tensile test results showed that after hydrogen charging the tensile strength and elongation of the Al-free steel were more remarkably decreased with increasing current density when compared to the Al-added steel. After hydrogen charging of the Al-added steel, it was found that the measured hydrogen content was small and silver particles were relatively less decorated. Therefore, the Al-added steel has a superior hydrogen embrittlement resistance to the Al-free steel because the addition of Al suppresses the injection of hydrogen during electrochemical hydrogen charging.
